@rtyler
@ysb33r nice work on getting that released
based on what I'm seeing on GitHub and Twitter, I'm thinking we should move forward with pushing a 2.0.0, the APIs aren't going to change IMO

@ysb33r
@rtyler It was Guillame Grossetie who stood up to help
R. Tyler Croy
@rtyler
so whatcha thinking about 2.0.0 for realsies
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
@rtyler I reckon we bump alpha release for the rest of 2019 and then go to 2.0.0 early in Jan 2020. At the rate @boris-petrov is finding bugs, we might still have a few to fix.
Boris Petrov
@boris-petrov
haha I think I'm done with the bugs. :) With the latest alpha all seems working fine(except jruby-gradle/jruby-gradle-plugin#393 but there is a workaround for it). There is something which I've noticed but it's not consistent so I haven't opened a bug for it - sometimes the jrubyPrepare task just hangs up... CTRL+C and rerunning it fixes it most of the times. Not sure if anyone has noticed something similar.
R. Tyler Croy
@rtyler
@ysb33r what do you think is holding us back from releasing now?
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
@rtyler Me writing the docs for core plugin. That's all. Will do it this weekend.
@boris-petrov No, I have not noticed yet. It might be worthwhile to run with --info and see and what message it hangs up.
R. Tyler Croy
@rtyler
ah okay
I was chatting with @headius recently about other people who rely on rubygems-proxy.torquebox.org, so they're going to support that in some way moving forward. I think we should still go full speed ahead with the approach in 2.0 however
Charles Oliver Nutter
@headius
that server is now back up at mavengems.jruby.org and we will continue to support it at that address
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
Yes, I'll add in the mavengems repo this weekend, plus the docs, then we are good.
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
All done. Waiting for the builds to pass, then merging the PR. Expect release in next couple of hours.

@ysb33r I can send out some tweets if you would like me to, or we can wait until I kick the tires a little bit and schedule a tweet for Monday :)
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
Kick the tires first and then do something on Monday.
R. Tyler Croy
@rtyler
okay

rtyler going to give Matrix another try 🤞
amimas
@amimas
Hi, I'm new to jruby-gradle. Do I need to have ruby installed or will jruby-gradle plugin take care of that if the specified version is not found? I couldn't find the info in the docs; not sure if I missed it somehow?
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
@amimas No need to. There is a default version of JRuby that will be used. You can override it if you want, but besides that the plugins that care of putting it on the classpath etc.

Is it possible to create a jar that packages a RubyGem from its git source repository, similar to what one can have in their Gemfile, e.g., gem "foo", :github => "some/repo"?
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
Not without a bunch of extra build script. Is this something that would be of interest?
Skye Shaw
@sshaw
I have a use case. The alternative would be to pull from a private gem repository which, I believe is supported
Just requires some configuring to set up the private repository. Sounds like it would be less configuring than pulling directly from the source repo
So maybe it's a better option
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
Yes the private GEM repo is supported via ruby.gems(...)
Skye Shaw
@sshaw
Thank you!

I have multiple script which shares the same library, e.g., s1/s1.rb, s2/s2.rb, s3/s3.rb, lib/*.rb, I would like to generate s1.jar, s2.jar, s3.jar, how to implement it ?
