I'm just dipping my toes in the water so far - goal right now is to integrate with Query API from Fulcrumapp.com as data source(s) and spit out PDF reports with the click of a button somewhere.

sounds fun! i think that the most easy and flexible way to do that is when you click your button just call jsreport REST endpoint and pass your custom data :smile:

do the query and data "getting" outside and send it to API of jsreport if i'm following right?

yes!
of course you can do the query and data “getting” in a jsreport script too but if you have complex logic (or custom requirements) i would recommend doing it outside (in your main app)
