@blink1073
we are currently checking before running jupyter lab build, but we should check before trying to install an extension as well
ceacar
@ceacar
@blink1073 sorry to bother again. the jupyterhub uses nodejs legacy and jupyterlab needs node version>5 to install. how does this happen at the same time?
@blink1073 i mean the jupyterlab-hub extension instead of jupyterlab
Steven Silvester
@blink1073
AFAIK a newer node will work, just not the one included by default in apt: https://github.com/jupyterhub/configurable-http-proxy#install
(from jupyterhub's perspective)
Jason Grout
@jasongrout
@blink1073 - is the other channel, https://gitter.im/jupyterlab/jupyterlab, preferred over this one?
I just realized we didn't have a link in the docs to either Gitter channel
Jason Grout
@jasongrout
ah, we do have a link at the bottom to the other chat room: https://github.com/jupyterlab/jupyterlab#getting-help
any objections to deprecating this channel and redirecting people to the other?
Steven Silvester
@blink1073
this one is deprecated, but I imagine folks naturally would think jupyterlab is in the jupyter org
Jason Grout
@jasongrout
makes sense.
how about this:

anyone noticing the cursor disappear from their notebook when zoomed out to < 100% (e.g. 90% zoom) on Chrome?
v. frustrating
Jason Grout
@jasongrout
It's a known issue with Chrome that affects 1-px wide things (not just us, across the web)

@William-Hill
Hi everyone. Is there a way to limit the files shown in the JupyterLab file browser by excluding certain extensions?
Jason Grout
@jasongrout
not currently
it just lists the files that come back from the Jupyter server file api
William-Hill
@William-Hill
Thanks for the input @jasongrout
Jason Grout
@jasongrout
searching/filtering/sorting the file list (and in general making the file browser more powerful) are things we'd love help with
William-Hill
@William-Hill
Could you suggest a good starting point where I could start building that feature? @jasongrout
Jason Grout
@jasongrout
The file browser code itself is in filebrowser package, and embedded in JLab in the filebrowser-extension package (see https://github.com/jupyterlab/jupyterlab/tree/master/packages)
A standalone example with just the filebrowser is at https://github.com/jupyterlab/jupyterlab/tree/master/examples/filebrowser
William-Hill
@William-Hill
Cool. Are you aware of any issue or PR that's already out for this? Don't want to step on anyone's toes @jasongrout
Jason Grout
@jasongrout
as far as I know, no one is working on the filebrowser right now
but I don't recall any focusing specifically on filtering the file list
there is an issue dealing UX of filebrowser search, IIRC
William-Hill
@William-Hill
Ok, I'll take a crack at it. Thanks @jasongrout
Torwag
@torwag
Hi, started to use matplotlib widgets (Cursor) in Jupyterlab, I noticed that the cursor-bars disappears as soon as I stop to move the mouse
Is this something known? Any way to get around this?
Jason Grout
@jasongrout
Great question. Does it also happen in the classic notebook?
Torwag
@torwag
need to check
Jason Grout
@jasongrout
(also, could we move this conversation over to https://gitter.im/jupyterlab/jupyterlab? This channel is an old channel that is abandoned)

Hi! Is there a widget toolbar-tab (like regular notebook) on jupyterlab or something went wrong on my installation? Thanks!

hi any body Please, how can i update 3.6 to 3.8 python version on window 10
?
Omkar Mestry
@omanges

For JupyterLab when I build the extension I am getting the following error:-

ModuleNotFoundError: Module not found: Error: Can't resolve './test.png'

For the Jupyter notebook, it works fine. I have added test.png
Do I need to register PNG somewhere?

Is there an alternative file browser in jupyterlab supporting collapsable folder structure instead of just jumping into folder structure. Something similar to VScode and other IDE's
Browsing around files is a bit of a challenge especially when I try to work on project with multiple folders
