…but they'd be black and white only. Apple uses something different in the iWork apps to create colorful icons with a white bezel.
Laszlo Korte
@laszlokorte
yeah I think 2 is more consistent with other apps
(finder, iworks...)
did you get xcode working/the app compiling?
Johannes Jakob
@JohJakob
@laszlokorte Yep, everything's working now.
Laszlo Korte
@laszlokorte

Reform Toolbar Icons.png
Here's a sneak peak on some of the new icons.
I want to use the white buttons, but with colorful icons like in the iWork apps. Normally, the white buttons only have gray icons, so I created the white button as part of the icons.
@laszlokorte One question: In the current app, when a tool is selected, the background behind the icon gets a bit darker. Can we disable that and use a custom icon for the selected tool instead?
Johannes Jakob
@JohJakob
@laszlokorte It'll increase the size of the app, but not much.
Laszlo Korte
@laszlokorte
@JohJakob wow looks great!
Laszlo Korte
@laszlokorte
I might be possible to just use regular NSButtons and put the image into them without the image being just being grey
Johannes Jakob
@JohJakob
@laszlokorte Thanks! Yeah, that would be awesome.
Johannes Jakob
@JohJakob
@laszlokorte The toolbar icons are almost finished.

@laszlokorte Can you explain me some basic Cocoa drawing things? I figured out that I can draw things with the drawRect function.
…but how do I draw freehand with the mouse?
Laszlo Korte
@laszlokorte
Not sure I understand your question. Are you talking about the CGGraphics API?
Johannes Jakob
@JohJakob
@laszlokorte I think so… the stuff with NSGraphicsContext and CGContext. I don't know much about it.
Basically, I want to create a simple drawing app with support for Wacom tablets to control the size of the brush.
Laszlo Korte
@laszlokorte
Ok I see.
If you like we can discuss it via PM in german
Johannes Jakob
@JohJakob
@laszlokorte Yeah, great!

Hi! I saw Bret Victor's talk a while back and I hoped someone would implement it, and then I found your project! Just wow, great stuff!
I think it would be interresting to have this to run into a web browser, do you think a javascript implementation is realistic? If so, do you have any advice? I might dedicate some spare time into this in the next few months
Laszlo Korte
@laszlokorte
@pouc welcome to the project!
I know that bret victor's original implementation has been done in javascript. So I don't see why it would not be possible. If it's actually enjoyable to write that much code in javascript is an entirely different question :smile:
Loïc Formont
@pouc
@laszlokorte thx! I've started and I'm using TypeScript : much more enjoyable ;)
Laszlo Korte
@laszlokorte
oh great :+1:
are you porting reform-swift or do you start completely from scratch on your own?
Loïc Formont
@pouc
I'm porting it but it implies a lot of rewriting
I've almost finished porting the math lib
I've tried using automated translation tools but they miserably failed :D
Laszlo Korte
@laszlokorte
^^
Loïc Formont
@pouc
I can share the private github repo if you're interested
Laszlo Korte
@laszlokorte
Sure!
Loïc Formont
@pouc
I've not added any credits and file headers with your name in! Ofc it'll be done if/when I release this
It's still raw, does not compile and not tested yet ;)
