Arthur
@kvackkvack
Mar 14 2016 16:24
File extension should obviously be .tlnccuwagnf
Florrie
@towerofnix
Mar 14 2016 16:24
obviously
working on use
Arthur
@kvackkvack
Mar 14 2016 16:24
are there any file extension names over 5 chars? is that possible? :P
260 characters
I think to be safe though most programs use 3 characters.
Arthur
@kvackkvack
Mar 14 2016 16:26
.html is 4
so i think 4 is the general absolute limit :P
Florrie
@towerofnix
Mar 14 2016 16:26
most
Yep.
Arthur
@kvackkvack
Mar 14 2016 16:26
eh
gromick has file extension .grom, at least for now :P
Florrie
@towerofnix
Mar 14 2016 16:26
php, htm, txt, js, css
there is json though
so probably keep it below 5
apparently there's .compiled
xD
Florrie
@towerofnix

Arthur
@kvackkvack
Mar 14 2016 16:28
java has .java and .class extensions
Florrie
@towerofnix
Mar 14 2016 16:28
True.
Probably the idea is not to limit how many characters you can have in the extension, but rather to keep the extension concise and maybe a bit descriptive.
Matthew
@BookOwl
Mar 14 2016 16:44
How about .tulun
Florrie
@towerofnix
Mar 14 2016 16:45
Could work as well.
Arthur
@kvackkvack
Mar 14 2016 16:45
.tln?
That's part of the actual name though :P
Florrie
@towerofnix
Mar 14 2016 16:46

@liam4 make async w/o callback hell by default pl0x
e.g. return (^) can be called anywhere and routes back to sender if possible
would make programming (esp w/ a functional language) much easier
Arthur
@kvackkvack
Mar 14 2016 18:41
Why do most languages not have the ability of async functions properly returning a value? Is there something in the way that functions work that doesn't work with that idea?
alex
@heyitsmeuralex
Mar 14 2016 18:41
hm?
actually im not busy so i might try and add this
Arthur
@kvackkvack
Mar 14 2016 18:42
why can't async functions use return like normal functions in most languages? is that something the language forces, or something the way the language is built forces?
alex
@heyitsmeuralex
Mar 14 2016 18:42
oh
basically return is function scoped
so callbacks are needed
Arthur
@kvackkvack
Mar 14 2016 18:43
Function scoped?? :P
alex
@heyitsmeuralex
Mar 14 2016 18:43
lol
essentially all function calls are async
so the code will move on, whether there is a return or not
Matthew
@BookOwl
Mar 14 2016 18:44
Why can't the language just take care of all the callback stuff for me and just let me 'return'?
alex
@heyitsmeuralex
Mar 14 2016 18:44
this is what I'm suggesting for tulun
:P
Matthew
@BookOwl
Mar 14 2016 18:45
If that happens, it will be 3.14159*inf better than js
alex
@heyitsmeuralex
Mar 14 2016 18:45
ikr
potato => fn(timeout n) {
  sleep(timeout)
  ^ +(n 1) # or whatever the syntax is
}
potato(1000 20)
# => 21 - 1 sec later
Arthur
@kvackkvack
Mar 14 2016 18:45
so, return is just setting some magical variable inside the function that the caller gets when it gets to the end of the function?
alex
@heyitsmeuralex
Mar 14 2016 18:46
yes
:P
automagic callbacks
however it's non-blocking
obvs
Arthur
@kvackkvack
Mar 14 2016 18:46
googles non-blocking
alex
@heyitsmeuralex
Mar 14 2016 18:47
...meaning that other code can execute while a function is waiting for completion
Arthur
@kvackkvack
Mar 14 2016 18:47
right
alex
@heyitsmeuralex
Mar 14 2016 18:47

but how would you deal with async functions in something like func1(asyncFunc() 59) then?
alex
@heyitsmeuralex
Mar 14 2016 18:50
blob
hum?
func1 will be called when asyncFunc() returns
how else? :P
Arthur

alex
@heyitsmeuralex
Mar 14 2016 18:51

Arthur
@kvackkvack
Mar 14 2016 18:52
what's wrong with semicolons? :(
alex
@heyitsmeuralex
Mar 14 2016 18:52

Arthur

alex
@heyitsmeuralex
Mar 14 2016 18:52
No, but he doesn't use them.
:P
Arthur
@kvackkvack
Mar 14 2016 18:52
just that there's no reason for using them in JS
which i agree with
alex
@heyitsmeuralex

Arthur
@kvackkvack
Mar 14 2016 18:53
i'm proud of my current node project not using any npm installs at all (except fs or whatever it's called)
alex
@heyitsmeuralex
Mar 14 2016 18:54
why should you be proud of that
Arthur
@kvackkvack

Arthur
@kvackkvack
Mar 14 2016 18:55
i think js is very difficult when it doesn't have $ placed randomly in it, which is why i used jquery basic arithmetic and gained 5 seconds of load time instantly!!!
alex
@heyitsmeuralex
Mar 14 2016 18:55
:P
window = $
yay now i can do find('#potato').append('rawr')
Arthur
@kvackkvack

$.add($($.Number('5')), $($.Number('8')))
// $.Number(13)

Mar 14 2016 19:09
yep
visual basic has := as a var setter
ugly asf
Arthur
@kvackkvack
Mar 14 2016 19:12
i could make a colon the 'operator function', so you could do (: 5 + 5) :P
or just do operators normally

Mar 14 2016 19:16

it seems it's trying to check the entire path as a directory, which won't work since it's a lot of directories

kek
Florrie
@towerofnix

o.

xD
Florrie
@towerofnix
Mar 14 2016 19:49
Assigns for object.
alex
@heyitsmeuralex
Mar 14 2016 19:49
ah
still doesn't work
Florrie
@towerofnix
Mar 14 2016 19:49
Which is different because objects are always references
so no point for - or =
alex
@heyitsmeuralex
Mar 14 2016 19:49
say => fn(msg) {
  return(msg);
};

print(
  say('hello there')

...
wat
Arthur
@kvackkvack
Mar 14 2016 19:50
thats because the language automatically detected the function being stupid and decided to remove it
alex
@heyitsmeuralex
Mar 14 2016 19:50
why
:P
Florrie
@towerofnix
Mar 14 2016 19:50

@heyitsmeuralex
Mar 14 2016 19:50
@liam4 wtf, double quotes
Florrie
@towerofnix
Mar 14 2016 19:50
Use double quotes instead of single quotes, idk why I haven't implemented single quotes :D
Arthur
@kvackkvack
Mar 14 2016 19:51
decide what quotes you like and stick with them!
Florrie
@towerofnix
Mar 14 2016 19:51
I like single quotes
Arthur
@kvackkvack

why
SyntaxError: Unexpected token '
Florrie
@towerofnix
Mar 14 2016 19:54
I've no idea :D
Plus now the postprocessor will only work on the double quote
alex
@heyitsmeuralex
Mar 14 2016 19:55
I changed it... I think
function(data, location, reject) {
    if (data[0] === '"' || data[0] === "'") return reject;
    else return data[0];
  }
fweheheh
