Hatim Kanchwala
@hatimak
@jeremybennett yes bullet points 2 and 4 above
@hatimak, can you point me to some code?
@wallento i have all the code i have written hosted at the github repo you created https://github.com/librecores/gsoc-museum-edsac/
IMHO, the issue with timing may be better understood by looking at the logic diagrams on which the code is based
this is a link bill shared with me once. all his observations and diagrams are there - http://www.billp.org/ccs/Edsac/simulation.php
Hatim Kanchwala
@hatimak
there is also a link to list of signals on the same page
i have downloaded these diagrams and have been annotating them for the past couple of days. was doing this as part of the mitigation strategy i proposed - fundamental, step-by-step analysis
and as a product of those efforts, i am preparing a “grand timing” diagram of sorts to get an overview of all signals and relative alignments
both of this is WIP
Hatim Kanchwala
@hatimak
sneak peek of “grand timing diagram” - https://pasteboard.co/dsXVaByL.png
tl;dr - my suggestion would be to browse the code in conjunction with the logic diagrams from bill (on which part of the code is based)
@wallento please let me know any questions you have, i will be happy to discuss. connectivity is hopefully restored permanently now
Hatim Kanchwala
@hatimak
@jeremybennett i have submitted my part of the first evaluations
*evaluation~s~
sorry i meant*evaluation with a strikethorugh s
google tells me that my responses are automatically shared with FOSSi
thanks a lot for having shared your responses over the last call. here are mine -
first communication - between feb 27 and mar 20 (i dripped my first mail on mar 9)
ow often do i interact with mentor - twice a month (our once every two weeks Hangouts). have discounted gitter communications that happen on need basis
*how often
comm channel - IRC/group, video chat, priv email, list, blog
rate quality of interactions with mentor - excellent (5/5)
Hatim Kanchwala
@hatimak
responsiveness of mentor - moderate (3/5). you had said at the start of the project that you’d be busy.
i am happy to change the feedback if you would like me to (google allows resubmitting the form before deadline)
Stefan Wallentowitz
@wallento
no, please not, we are happy to get your feedback, but we highly encourage you to be open from the heart
Hatim Kanchwala
@hatimak
there was a question “what is your favourite part of participating in GSoC?” i have written a lengthy response to them which i will be including as blog post under a broader title “my experience with open source"
Stefan Wallentowitz
@wallento
cool
Hatim Kanchwala
@hatimak
finally, there was a question on feedback for FOSSi. here is my response to that -
I wish there were some learning resource, for newcomers such as myself particularly. Also, it would be nice if there was some central portal providing access to all FOSSi or FOSSi related projects. There's a pretty active Twitter handle, so that's nice.

no, please not, we are happy to get your feedback, but we highly encourage you to be open from the heart

i wanted to give something between 3 and 4 for repsonsiveness because the fact that @jeremybennett takes time out despite his busy schedule is in itself big deal. he also responds via text message on phone.

@jeremybennett
@hatimak Where do I find your report for this week? Have you emailed one, or should I look somewhere else?
Hatim Kanchwala
@hatimak
@jeremybennett just checked. my mail didnt go through this morning. emailing report, updated work packages and risk register. please give me another 5 minutes
Jeremy Bennett
@jeremybennett
@wallento - If @hatimak has broadband problems, we'll fall back to a telephone conference. Dial in numbers are: +49 180 300 2037 (Germany), +44 844 870 8685 (UK) or +1 713 489 1567 (USA). Conference ID is 10137893. Sorry there is no local dial-in for India.
Stefan Wallentowitz
@wallento
okay, thanks
sorry, I may be short on time, the whole family is sick :(
Jeremy Bennett
@jeremybennett
@wallento sorry to hear that. Let's keep it tight this morning.
@hatimak Do we have a hangout link?
Hatim Kanchwala
@hatimak
@jeremybennett i have resent the mail from my side
Jeremy Bennett
@jeremybennett
@hatimak Got it.
Hatim Kanchwala
@hatimak
just a moment i am the hangouts but cant seem to find the link
does this work out?
Hatim Kanchwala
@hatimak

@wallento @jeremybennett thanks a lot for today’s call.

  1. i have updated my risk register.
  2. mail to bill will soon be sent out as discussed.
  3. i have also just spoken to my advisior in college. he confirmed that in case of undergraduates, re-imbursement is granted for a few conference within india. but international conferences is limited to phd students and faculty members. there is some hope because my advisor suggested i speak with the academic dean for my particular case. i will be speaking with the dean on either 7 or 8 july. personally, i am not very hopeful that the dean will be willing to grant funds for the international conference. i say it because i know not of a single case in which international conference funds were granted to undergraduates although i know several who attended such conferences.
  4. i am afraid that the gsoc stipend will not come in handy because i will be using it to partially pay my college tuition fees.

my intention is to be able to raise funds on my own as far as i can. i know that you guys are working very hard to get sponsorship for FOSSi (i follow twitter), so if i can arrange for funds myself that would only help you guys and that is my objective. i shall get back to you after speaking with my dean.

thanks a lot :)

Stefan Wallentowitz
@wallento
hi @hatimak, consider the funding secured. We usually have a cap of 1000 Euro, but I am confident we can get you in for that. As you say, it would be awesome if your university provides funding to subsidize, but we can get it covered. Where are you located in India (next airports)?
Jeremy Bennett
@jeremybennett
@hatim I reinforce what @wallento said - between FOSSi and Embecosm we'll make sure you can get to the UK. I hope you can come for the whole week Monday - Monday, so you can join ChipHack. You will almost certainly need a letter of invitation to get a visa which we can organize.
Stefan Wallentowitz
@wallento
yeah, we have a template for that at FOSSi, which worked fine in the past
I will take care of getting you one
Hatim Kanchwala
@hatimak
@wallento in that time frame (4-11 sept) i will be stationed in patna, bihar. the closest airport is PAT (airport code). i must add it is one of india’s most poorly maintained airport so for sure i will have to board a flight first to new delhi (DEL) or mumbai (BOM).
Stefan Wallentowitz
@wallento
I see
there are some trips for 908 Euro
20 hours
