Hello, welcome to the chatroom for my Hosts project. If you are having issues with my lists, such as a false positive or a broken website, please do not post about it here. Instead, open a ticket. Tickets make it much easier on me to keep track of what is working and what isn't. If a complaint is mentioned in this chatroom, then it will likely get lost or forgotten. If you want to talk about hosts files in general, the goals of the project, etc - then this is a great place for that.

Hii, What is https://github.com/bugsnag/bugsnag-js? What type of data it collects? ublock reports this full URL I dont know anything about JS, https://d2wy8f7a9ursnm.cloudfront.net/bugsnag-2.min.js
Daniel
@lightswitch05
Interesting, it looks like I have some bugsnag subdomains added in my list. But I don't remember anything about it:
0.0.0.0 bugsnag.appstore.a2z.com
0.0.0.0 notify.bugsnag.appstore.a2z.com
That host is also blocked by https://hostsfile.mine.nu/hosts0.txt and https://hosts-file.net/ad_servers.txt

Marketing – Interest-Based Advertising and Third Party Marketing. Through our Services, Bugsnag may allow Third-Party advertising partners to set tracking tools (e.g., cookies) to collect information regarding your activities (e.g., your IP address, page(s) visited, time of day). We may also share such de-identified information as well as selected Personal Information (such as demographic information and past purchase history) we have collected with Third-Party advertising partners. These advertising partners may use this information (and similar information collected from other websites) for purposes of delivering targeted advertisements to you when you visit non-Bugsnag related websites within their networks. This practice is commonly referred to as “interest-based advertising” or “online behavioral advertising. We may allow access to other data collected by the Site to facilitate transmittal of information that may be useful, relevant, valuable or otherwise of interest to you. If you prefer that we do not share your Personal Information with Third-Party advertising partners, you may opt-out of such sharing at no cost by following the instructions in Section 5 below.
it doesn't sound good. These privacy policies are impossible to understand. There is absolutely no way to determine if this paragraph is limited to people who are using their services directly or if it applies to people are are unknowingly being tracking through the bug tracker. I think they write them like this on purpose. My verdict would be to block them, which looks like uBlock origin agrees. Of course not everyone agrees with blocking these types of error tracking services

Hey, my pihole has lots of queries to googleadapis.l.google.com and gstaticadssl.l.google.com, these domains seems to be new I think? I never seen these before
Daniel
@lightswitch05
googleadapis.l.google.com is not new. Its showing in my pihole for over a year ago
same thing for gstaticadssl.l.google.com
Daniel
@lightswitch05
it looks like people had issues with blocking gstaticadssl.l.google.com: https://github.com/StevenBlack/hosts/issues/967#issuecomment-489473316
personally, I think they should be blocked and fuck it if a few fonts fail to load. But that's obviously not how everyone feels about it

Hey, do you have any suggestions for me on how to analyze URLs? Like Wireshark or something? I have a smart TV and i'm looking to capture full URLs....
Daniel
@lightswitch05

@anudeepND I really like https://mitmproxy.org/ for analyzing devices on my network - like a phone. However, it will only work against devices that:

  1. Does not do SSL - or does not properly verify SSL
    -OR-
  2. Allows you to install/trust self-signed certificates

On a device like a phone, you can 'trust' the MITM Proxy's self-signed certificate, and so it can then decode all SSL traffic. But on something like a TV, its unlikely to let you do that. You might get lucky and find that the TV accepts the self-signed certificate anyways. Or perhaps that it is not doing SSL at ll

its also not super easy to use and setup, but I'm sure you can find out how to do that one your own
