Chris Hobcroft
@chrishobcroft
Is that @ericxtang on http://livepeer.tv right now?
Josiah Savary
@jozanza
I think it's the back of my head
Eric Tang
@ericxtang
wait… am I on livepeer.tv or ericxtang.livepeer.tv?
Chris Hobcroft
@chrishobcroft
hehe, I think neither
OK, I will run it again... @ericxtang is on www.livepeer.tv now
Chris Hobcroft
@chrishobcroft
I am currently launching an attack on the record for the longest stream in Livepeer.
I believe that the record stands at 5hr 31mins by Chris Hobcroft, although this is unconfirmed.
Chris Hobcroft
@chrishobcroft
Now @dob is on www.livepeer.tv

And we're up to 4hrs 9mins for the longest ever stream :)
It's not live though, it's streaming dead video

@rayj00
I'm seeing occasonal vidoe freezeing for a few secs. But the audio goes right on!

@j0sh
one more hour!
Chris Hobcroft
@chrishobcroft
@rayj00 I see that also, I think it's due to the limitation on my upstream bandwidth.
rayj00
@rayj00
@chrishobcroft Other than that.....awesome!!
Chris Hobcroft
@chrishobcroft
Occasionally I lose capacity (e.g. when my neighbours want to upload something to Google Drive) and this squeezes the signal and OBS just starts dropping frames.
Josh Allmann
@j0sh
one more minute!

OK, we've just broken through the 20hr mark on Livepeer TV... this record-breaking stream is going strong... no manual intervention...

I have been using their free VPS at "System On Grid" for a few months. I originally want to use it as a Livepeer node. But at the time, Livepeer had a memory requirement and the free VPS with 1Gig of mem was not cutting it. So I think I will just continue using it to host a website. However...I just noticed they instituted a huge price reduction and was wondering if anyone is using one of there VPS's for hosting a Livepeer node? Check out these prices at https://systemongrid.com/pricing/ Disclaimer: I am not being rewarded in any way from SoG for posting this. I just think the pricing is phenomenal! Although their default price is based on 10Gb of storage. it looks like a 8CPU, 8GB Mem, 40GB SSD and 8TB Transfer would be $20.00/month! Which is what I am paying for half those features at another provider!!! I will run a speed test from my 1CPU/1GB Mem/10GB SSD free VPS and see how their speed is.
rayj00
@rayj00
So I ran a speed test from my free VPS and my paid VPS. What do you think of this comparison?

@dob
I’d say your linode VPS is giving you nearly 4x the upload capacity :), but the SoG node still has enough to get out a single high res stream.
rayj00
@rayj00
I would say the SoG network might be a good candidate to use for doing demos.

I spun up a free tier 30GB SSD t2.micro at Amazon. It's free for a year. You can have multiple accts to different email addresses. aws+001@gmail.com and so on. (if you have google g-suite or gmail, a + sign makes the handle a prefix for an alias)
rayj00
@rayj00
SoG also provides a free VPS for a year. Are there others?
rayj00
@rayj00
Now broadcasting from a low specification (but free) VPS. https://media.livepeer.org/channels/0x58F3d09Dbd7A9aD4484FA54fa1D23509Ea4A8Edb
It initially hung after 10 secs or so. But re-initializing OBS and it been going for a few mins now.
The VPS has 1 CPU, 10 Mb SSD, 1 Gb Mem.
Still holding at 30 sec. latency!
rayj00
@rayj00
Memory being eaten at a rate of 9Mb/30 secs???
f1l1b0x
@f1l1b0x
vps with 1 cpu for what? Transcoding? source encoding=?
sounds like being way too small for any streaming task over 144p
rayj00
@rayj00
It looks good to me?
f1l1b0x
@f1l1b0x
how much cpu utilization do you measure?
rayj00
@rayj00
Doesn't look lile I can view that on the dashboard.
Its a free tier so I suspect they don't give out any tools.
The wrench in this will be memory. I'm down to 68M free.
I'm thinking <1hr broadcasting per 1Gb of memory.
rayj00
@rayj00
Hmmmm..mem starts going back up while streaming!
Goes down to 60M then back up to 75M?
So the initial mem problem must be fixed.
Well I'm a happy camper using the free VPS. Should be enough to do a demo if I need to.
rayj00
@rayj00
@f1l1b0x On the livepeer player, do you know what the two counters are for? I suspect the first is broadcast time, not sure what the second one is?
f1l1b0x
@f1l1b0x
@rayj00 for me this sounds like your cpu is at max and your memory leak is just buffers piling up cause the box you use cant handle the encoding task
