Hi,
I've been attending LNUG for the past few months and really enjoying the meetups - thank you to the organisers.
I wanted to learn some more about Node & the London Node network as I was looking to use Node to develop a PWA for a new non profit. I'm not a developer, but I've had previous business & non profit projects with Ruby on Rails, and now Node seems a more attractive option.
Having discussed the new project with an old trusted/experienced Rails developer he favours getting the project started using serverless Next.js on Zeit. From what I've read, Next seems pretty good...
I want the tech stack to be right from the start, and I'm slightly unsure on the implications of using Next. While not wanting to be negative, I don't currently understand what are the disadvantages might be for utilising Next?
Just to repeat my earlier statement 'I'm not a developer' so I don't understand complex code features. I'm just trying to understand implications of using Next.js or not using it. How would Next limit us?
I know this is a Node.js community, I'm asking here as I know some of you, and I figure I may get a more balanced view than if I ask these questions in a Next.js community.
Thank you
Matt
hi object Object, thanks for your comments. Within a very short period the rails (& JS) developer stood up a basic PWA which I enjoyed installing on a device without going through an app store. While I'm open to be further dissuaded, currently the Next.js & PWA functionality looks incredibly attractive.
I'll discuss the comments you've made.
If anyone can comment anything further that would be great, thank you
hi, Just wondering if you have considered using hopin.to for meetups?
It's a new platform currently in early access. The company is based out of London.
Yesterday I attended a RunningRemote.com conference on Hopin. It was brilliant. Unlike most other tech, it's designed for the purpose of virtual meetups/conferences.
I just mention it because I thought it worked great.
Cheers
Matt
