    @/all - kicking off the chat here for the meetup later - looking forward to talks from @arismarko and @craigtaub - details from lnug.org:

    How to develop a emergency website using Prisma2 ORM, NodeJS, NextJS and deploy it in heroku, and Zeit

    Aris Markogiannakis

    On those critical times, I took the chance to learn something new and tried to PRISMA 2, to create a small website, that shows where there are supplies [Bread, Pasta and ToiletRolls].

    I will go through all the difficulties of developing the app as Prisma2 is still in development, and how to deploy the app in Heroku.

    For the frontend I used NextJS that connects to a nodejs API (very simple) that uses the Prisma client.

    Aris is a developer for a number of years in FullStack development and a servant of the London's community powering CityJS and JSMonthly.

    Under-the-hood of web bundlers

    Craig Taub

    A look at the mechanisms inside web bundlers e.g Webpack.

    Starting with why they are still useful.

    Then how to build a small compiler, akin to Webpack. There are many interesting topics in a very small space here.

    Next how to use the output of our compiler with an application.

    Finishing with all the additional parts Webpack does which ours doesn't, hopefully with some idea on how those could be done.

    Anyone got the link?
    does this work?

    I'd like to do a presentation but I don't have an idea for a topic. I really liked Craig's In Depth look at web bundlers (https://indepth.dev/under-the-hood-of-web-bundlers-e-g-webpack/) and I'm having a look at https://indepth.dev to see what topics have been covered. My first idea was for a deep dive into git (inspired by a discussion about merge v rebase yesterday) and I just thought wow - I know so little about this tool I use every day! But I found this, it seems like it's already being covered: https://indepth.dev/becoming-a-git-pro-part-1-internal-git-architecture/ so my question is - does anyone have any suggestions for a deep dive in depth look at anything? Doesn't have to be node related but it could be, just something we use every day and take for granted like webpack or git, but maybe don't have a deep understanding of. Another idea I want to pursue is a deep dive into the features of Chrome or Firefox developer tools, I bet there's LOADS of good stuff I don't know about there.

    I know this isn't node, but I'd love to see a presentation on React suspense and what its all about.
    Or how about something more topical - like how Twitter got hacked, and what they could have put in place to prevent it
    Clare Lindley
    @clare-lindley
    Ooh suspense is a good suggestion I like that!
    Adam Davis
    @admataz
    @clare-lindley yes I agree, a deep dive would be great - and the tech behind suspense would be super interesting to hear about (personally I’d like to hear how it works, more than how to use it), or an illustration/demo of solving a unique problem with suspense would be a great talk. If you want to make it more node-y you could maybe include some of the "Render-as-You-Fetch “ implications for your API - and any adjustments, if any, you need to make to your server-side code and API

    @tombeckenham -

    how Twitter got hacked, and what they could have put in place to prevent it

    this would be very interesting

    @admataz "an illustration/demo of solving a unique problem with suspense would be a great talk." - that's a great starting point. I'm about to start onboarding for a new job so I don't want to overcommit myself and commit to a date for a talk immediately - I think I'll have to take some time to explore the new suspense feature first, see how much spare time I can devote to it, do a bit of a spike, until the shape of a talk emerges, and take it from there - but I am very keen on the idea of getting into speaking at tech events - I'm attending this tomorrow for some help on how to get started: https://www.meetup.com/Ladies-of-Code-UK/events/271763594/

    Just checking there's no LNUG tonight? I was planning to turn up to the online event for once
    Adam Davis
    @admataz
    Hi Tom - yeah we are off this month. Sorry.
    Clare Lindley
    @clare-lindley
    @tombeckenham @admataz An update from me on the subject of doing a talk - as I suspected onboarding at work and learning Typescript for my job is enough for me right now, I just wanted to let you know as I feel like this was an open loop in the chat. When I have settled in at work and I'm more familiar with the tools, tech and codebase I will pick up my public speaking engagements again!
