Could have a look at the QGIS plugin which is just such a client to get an idea of the work involved.
It would be GPL which prevents direct reuse of the code for iOS, but a working example is worth something.
(Note I am not Gab or Blasby so my knowledge is second hand beyond some IP help)

It will also need to be able to apply the diffs to merge back changes on a possibly modified local base... I guess there would be one or the other versioning challenge to master anyway.
RE license: If it's rewritten as a client app it does not necessarily need to be GPL and iOS does not prevent GPL (it's the appstore that is ... well questionable... to put it mildly)

It may be worth scheduling a chat or something with gab / blasby if you have something in mind.
I am glad this project is at LocationTech and not lost in the wind like some other RnD :)

I've just asked a few questions before moving forward with further development of the web api:
@groldan Thanks for that! Wasn't clear from that site that the beta was the one to use. Super.

got another question for the team. what are the performance implications for very large datasets stored using the postgres backend. particularly I am thinking about how optimized the initial checkout using a BBOX is going to be since the backend doesn't appear to postGIS/spatial indexes

Hey team, how's around here? We've got a fairly big open source project that supports reforestation plantings, and I think we'll be making some significant use of geogig. We've put the time in to learn the commands and how it works, and it's a really great project that meats definite needs for us - awesome work! I was wondering who is around in this channel, and if there's a team member who would be willing to chat with me one on one for 20 minutes so I can resolve a few outstanding questions we have about using geogig in our GIS workflows. Let me know, and thank you! There is literally nothing else like this project that I have ever seen, really excited to have come across geogig!

zaven you should reach out to groldan above with your interest. While geogig is indeed impresive technology there are only a couple of developers around with commit access who are available to work on it ... and only when they have contract to do so :)

great thank you Jody!

Okay, please keep in mind that Gabe (and myself for that matter) making our living supporting open source :)
So we tend to seek our collaborators or customers to ensure projects we love remain sustainable.

Awesome! I'm VP Engineering of https://greenstand.org/home which builds Treetracker, a platform that enables verification of reforestation efforts which funding some of the poorest communities in the world to do the planting and tracking of trees.
We have a variety of needs for versioning GIS data and collaborative workflows, and from what I've read and demo-d, geogig should fills the gap. We've gotten fairly far with the documentation and trying things out, but are running into a few confusions/roadblocks in finalizing our workflow. I think you'll hear more from me soon or from one of our volunteers.
