Where should I be looking for the issue tracker? I can't seem to find anything here
Also, the instructions here state that 1.2.7.2 is the recommended version, but when looking here it's only showing versions 1.3.0 and 1.3.1. Any reason why I shouldn't try out 1.3.1?

@metasim that should say 1.3.1 :)
our issue tracker is here: https://geomesa.atlassian.net/browse/

@elahrvivaz FYI it doesn't appear that I can file an issue even after creating an account. I can't find the "New Issue" button.
Not sure if that was intentional or not.

I think you have to be granted permissions to open issues
@jnh5y can probably hook you up
or if you want to post it here i can file it

thx
I was just going to offer some documentation feedback from a new user stand point. I'll just submit a PR instead.

nice, thanks
we'll need to open a ticket anyway, as we try to have all our commits reference a ticket

But I'd suggest making issue filing easier for outsiders. Maybe use github issues and copy over if accepted.
Emilio
@elahrvivaz
Mar 30 2017 14:21
yeah, we've been considering using github
i think the main reason we haven't is b/c we tend to file a lot of 'nice to have some day' things as issues, so our backlog looks kind of bad if you just see the raw number on github :sweat_smile:

I've added you to the users and developers groups on GeoMesa's JIRA; that should help with creating tickets

Looking at your geomesa-spark-sql work.

sweet
yeah... we had a pretty active period of development, so there might some 'obvious-to-us' things which could use some more documentation for users
of course, I can be bribed with Sultan Kebab to come by sometime and chat about it some more in person;)

@jnh5y Q: In GeoMesa you guys prefix the Spark SQL UDFs with st_ (which I assume stands for "spatial-temporal"). Did you follow any external guiding principles or conventions when choosing st_ (e.g. PostGIS does something like this)? Naively I would have expected gm_. Asking because I'm on the edge of following your lead with adding UDTs/UDFs for GeoTrellis. Want to follow conventions where I can.
James Hughes
@jnh5y
Mar 30 2017 15:14
We followed conventions from PostGIS
for most of those functions, they are basically or morally the same API as functions here: http://postgis.net/docs/reference.html
'st' stands for spatial type

So if I basically plan to implement all of this we'll have something useful? ;-)
James Hughes
@jnh5y
Mar 30 2017 15:34
only if it is fast;)
broadly, our strategy was to 1 implement the data types necessary, 2) implement the first few functions which deliver value, 3) wire up Catalyst optimizations
after that first pass, we used the PostGIS function list as a quick list of ideas
PostGIS has had years and years of developers addressing corner cases; we didn't fuss with all of those
we knocked out the functions which were either obvious to wire up to JTS or ones which showed the most value
well, and something like ConvexHull, I implemented as an example of a user-defined-aggregate function (just to see how it would work)

James Hughes
@jnh5y
Mar 30 2017 15:42
yeah, also, it gives me some ground to suggest that anyone else can contribute a function which they like but don't see;)

I'm in imageio hell. Trying to include geomesa-spark-sql into my project and getting this error:

unresolved dependency: it.geosolutions.imageio-ext#imageio-ext-tiff;1.1.15: not found

Is this one of the dependencies I have to download manually due to license issues?

I do have http://download.osgeo.org/webdav/geotoolsas a resolver.
Emilio

yeah, I think we've excluded imageio due to licensing

hum... I have that in my resolver list
actually http.... lemme change that to https
James Hughes

yeah.... also, we have exclusions for that jar in dependency management....
Simeon H.K. Fitch
@metasim
Mar 30 2017 18:03
So it's not actually needed by GM?
(surprised the exclusion wasn't transitive)
Wow... changing http to https on boundlessgeo worked
James Hughes
@jnh5y
Mar 30 2017 18:04
no, it shouldn't be required for GeoMesa
