    do you still have bookmarks in your browser?
    Lantizia
    @Lantizia
    nah the browser is effectively fresh (no bookmarks on it and no floccus installed on it, until a moment ago)

    do you still have a browser with your old bookmarks on it, though?
    Lantizia
    @Lantizia
    i used the 'Nextcloud Bookmarks' app move all existing bookmarks it had (server side) into a new folder called 'Old Floccus' - and that has synced to my bookmarks bar on firefox just fine
    marcelklehr
    @marcelklehr:matrix.org
    [m]
    that would be the easiest way to recover
    Lantizia
    @Lantizia
    nah afraid not
    presumably the tags stopped being used for structure a while back?
    marcelklehr
    @marcelklehr:matrix.org
    [m]
    yeah
    then you have the option to install an old floccus version to sync the old folder structure back down
    Lantizia
    @Lantizia
    any ideas which old version I'd have to use (and would it be compatible with the latest version of nextcloud and the bookmarks app?)

    https://github.com/floccusaddon/floccus/releases/tag/v4.4.6 is the last version that had the legacy sync method in the UI
    It should be compatible even with the latest nextcloud bookmarks
    make sure to sync down only
    with a legacy account
    Lantizia
    @Lantizia
    with a legacy account?
    marcelklehr
    @marcelklehr:matrix.org
    [m]
    legacy == old nextcloud bookmarks tags sync method
    I'm not sure what it was called once it was marked as legacy
    then once the folders have been created by floccus in your browser, remove the old floccus version and setup flocus

    ok hopefully i'll make sense when I find a way of loading this xpi on - firefox doesn't like how it can't "verify" it
    marcelklehr
    @marcelklehr:matrix.org
    [m]
    like you would normally
    you may be able to load it by unzipping the xpi (rename to .zip and unzip), and then going to about:debugging -> this firefox and loading it as a temporary addon

    @Lantizia
    ah! XBEL support :P
    did that survive?
    marcelklehr
    @marcelklehr:matrix.org
    [m]
    yeah
    Lantizia
    @Lantizia
    yay! I remember much more preferring that
    marcelklehr
    @marcelklehr:matrix.org
    [m]
    nowadays you can sync XBEL or HTML via webdav
    Lantizia
    @Lantizia
    hmm clicking 'Add Account' after picking 'Nextcloud Bookmarks (legacy)' does nothing but a pretty glow on the button :)
    the other two options work though

    can you check the javascript console
    Lantizia
    @Lantizia
    TypeError: this.registry[t.type] is not a constructor
    Selection_229.png
    something in options.js

    mh maybe i was wrong then and support was removed earlier
    perhaps that changelog entry only meant the UI was removed, but the actual functionality had been removed earlier
    can you try v4.2.6 ?
    Lantizia
    @Lantizia
    trying...
    yay button works :)
    ok got them
    is there any easy way I can reset the 'nextcloud bookmarks' app/database... then just sync up

    you got the bookmarks synced down with v4.2.6?
    wow
    that was easy
    marcelklehr:matrix.org @marcelklehr:matrix.org is happy about their own code
    Lantizia
    @Lantizia
    tbh I have a feeling these bookmarks are pre-"me using xbel instead"

    so I'm in two minds about whether I even want to sync them back up lol
    I think I preferred XBEL at the time because a) it felt the same as the KDBX file I use with various Keepass clients (and still do) and b) the Nextcloud Bookmarks app had no concept of folders anyway
    but b) is no longer true
    so maybe I should give Nextcloud Bookmarks another shot?

    that's your call, I'd say
    both methods use the same sync algorithm
