yeah, I like it. the usual plus assuming good intentions/not letting frustration get personal, and also the comment in the PR thread about not ‘rolling your own’ CoC too much is wise, keep commentary focused on the general. respecting every “genotype” made me smile :’)
I think all the smaller practical details can be interpreted within this
has MPL (numfocus more broadly?) had any other notable issues which the CoC is addressed to? (besides DEI)
hannah
@story645
MPL's issues have been more on the abusive posters on mailing list/github that get a warning then ban
but it's been a bit informal
For the communications guide, I'm trying to figure out if it needs a formal "PR Nightmare" section or if it's better for that to be informal. The section would basiclaly say "nobody says anything, especially as MPL, and this is for the comms lead to deal w/"

@Guangwei_Fu_twitter
Oh, I retweeted that one... if it is astronomy and exoplanets related, it is probably me 😅
hannah
@story645
It was good!
I'm happy :)
I'm trying to offload twitter responsibility & stuff in the mpl voice builds trust that I can
hannah
@story645
@Guangwei_Fu_twitter just so mario and LOVE
Louis Maddox
@lmmx
I was thinking the same (I think you call it ‘crisis management’ or something)
on a lighter note, just eating dinner but curious if raw strings resolve this complaint! https://twitter.com/allendowney/status/1311732734751105024?
(will check after i eat if noone sees this before then)
hannah
@story645
Yeah I think it's raw strings - we have a weird very custom mathtext parser
And I think it's the \b
Louis Maddox
@lmmx
Hmmm unsure whether to respond with a suggestion to make an issue or do it myself? https://twitter.com/quasimondo/status/1312710230317428736
Louis Maddox
@lmmx
I just typed out the perfect tweet on tweetdeck then my ipad died :'( Was going to run it by you Hannah (just says something nice about someone's dataviz and links to the source code included in the blog) and wondered if scheduling a tweet would let you see it as a 'draft'? maybe that'd be a good mechanism (or maybe not in case it leads to duplicate tweets... hmm)
hannah
@story645
Sorry, out for Jewish holidays - yes scheduling it should let me see it
And if you didn't open an issue I can ask them to do so
And the tweet about jack is great - he DM'ed thanks!
Louis Maddox
@lmmx
aw great :))) just was a bit uncertain about what kind of "voice" to use ha!
I did not open an issue nope but should really if you're on your hols! not really familiar with the error he was seeing, I will try to replicate and have a go myself... happy r.h. ! :)
hannah
@story645
Oh, and you're welcome to respond to Jack's DM (it's in the mpl inbox which tweet deck also gives you access to)
Louis Maddox
@lmmx
eeek i missed this my bad hannah !
just went to use the tweetdeck (amazing optics anim code i was reading and then noticed it was mpl!) and it’s all freezing, twitter having a bad day D:
hannah
@story645
:/ I retweeted that one (RT'ed 'cause I saw your RT on my wall) but like please RT with words once twitter wants to work again
Louis Maddox
@lmmx
:D I shall, also wow look at the MPL "force plots" in this package, incredible! https://github.com/slundberg/shap/
I maybe need to double check they're not javascript, they look incredibly slick in the readme
hannah
@story645
yeah I think those were JS
hannah
@story645
Would anyone be interested in doing a sort of mpl of the week type short series on the blog about different repos under the mpl org + third party packages? Or have an idea for how to recruit someone for this project? Or even think it's a good idea?
Peter Smith, Novice Space Wizard
@ExoplanetPete_twitter
Hello everybody! Hannah just added me to the tweetdeck
hannah
@story645
Hi, I think it's mostly just us at the moment (and you're welcome to jump into the regular mpl channel too)
Joseph Lucas
@JosephTLucas
@story645 Okay, I can create a blog post about Dr. Kehl’s students' artwork. I looked back through their tweets, but couldn’t find the genesis of this conversation. Did this start from ‘us’ interacting with one of her posts? Trying to find some context on the class and student ages and stuff like that. I can ask her (also plan on asking for code samples), but didn’t want to re-trod anything that’s already been discussed.
Joseph Lucas
@JosephTLucas
Perfect, thanks
Joseph Lucas
@JosephTLucas
@story645 , blog PR is in: matplotlib/matplotblog#66
My plan is to wait until the blog is finished before using instagram, that way we can link the blog post and drive any new traffic to the blog.

Great idea!
Joseph Lucas
@JosephTLucas
@story645 getting caught as "unusual activity" for instagram. Let me know when to send the email (hoping you can relay me the code).

I just told Instagram that it was me, hopefully that'll work. Please remember to add alt text for the images & did you get the students handles if they wanted to be tagged?
Joseph Lucas
@JosephTLucas
Yup, was able to login. I'll remember to add alt text, but didn't get handles. Will DM Dr Kehl about that.

Thanks!
hannah
@story645
@JosephTLucas do you wanna RT (w/ some wording) Catherine's tweet about the blog post?
Joseph Lucas
@JosephTLucas
Sure, will do. Sending the first image on IG now too.

@story645
Also let me know if you/anyone here has a comment on https://gitter.im/matplotlib/matplotlib?at=619ec65dcd3f06175dd3725c
Joseph Lucas
@JosephTLucas
Looks cool, but we’d still have to use tweetdeck for DMs, Likes, and RT, right? If we can’t do a wholesale replacement (and have to maintain two systems), it might not be worth it.
story645
@story645:matrix.org
[m]
Yeah, also for replies, which is why it may be more useful as a queue system than for social media management
