    1. Find out if you can change which room the libera.chat bridges to.
      • If can change, pick a single room as the canonical source
      • If not, you probably want to choose the !ipBocKVYhzwSPWzCKM:libera.chat room as the canonical source
    2. The #pytest:matrix.org alias can point to any room regardless of its homeserver

    What does this mean?

Find out if you can change which room the libera.chat bridges to.

I think we'd want !LWDnZSQeXmRPFTrkGA:matrix.org to be canonical, I'm not sure who we'd need to contact to "change which room the libera.chat bridges to"

Hello, I have a little question. I created a matrix room, but I would like gitter users to be able to join - currently they are not receiving the invites. What should I do? I'm getting lost in the terms like "plumbing" and "bridging", do I have to invite the Gitter-badger user? Does the room have to be public? Feel free to refer me to any documentation, I just haven't found it...

How can I get replies to show the relevant line it’s replying to on Element iOS app?

    Sorry I’m referring to Gitter
If a Gitter user replies to someone and I’m using Element it shows it’s a reply but not what it’s replying too

This is a Gitter user Reply
You can’t click the green and see what the reply is in reference too
If I reply it does stack on gitter side as a reply but it looks as such

Ohhh, I see! That the message is edited and there is a known bug around that, gitterHQ/webapp#2794

Although Element iOS would ideally fallback to picking up the relation from the original message like Element web does

It happens on every one to me not just edited ones hold on

    Another example
This is on trunk-recorder/lobby but it happens to the others that started as Gitters though

Can anyone explain the "encrypt to verified sessions only" option in Element Android app? Should I keep this enabled?

i'm trying to join a gitter.im room where i've been using a github-linked account. is there a way to migrate/link this to a matrix.org username so I can use Element as the client?

I was looking at vector-im/roadmap#26 and i am not really happy about the note that talks about a public archive
Shouldn't the right to privacy and to be forgotten not also respected? At least obfuscate the user details for a public record so that you have to be part of the channel at the moment the message was written
The mailing list archives also obscure adresses
    at least the good ones

Both gitter and matrix both already have a set of visibility settings which make the history publically accessible.
The administrators of the room (in matrix) can decide if they want you to have to be a member of the room to see all history, history since you joined or all history is public.

madlittlemods (Eric Eastwood): A while ago you helped me re-connect #simpletask:matrix.org to gitter. I wondering if the initial out-of-sync might have happened when the (libera.chat) irc bridge kicking gitter users out of the room due to inactivity?
There's no problem at the moment, this is more of a "maybe it will save some headache in the future" thing.

No worries, I was planning on following up with details.

    • The irc bridge also represents users 1:1. E.g. I appear on libera.chat as smichel17[m].
    • If a user connected to libera.chat is inactive across the entire network (doesn't send a message to any channel) for some amount of time, the network kicks them.
    • Over the bridge, this results in them getting kicked from the matrix room. I would consider this a bug in the irc bridge.
I was wondering if a bridged gitter user getting kicked might confuse the gitter badger / break the bridge
    1 reply
If so, then any room which is bridged (plumbed) with both gitter and libera.chat is at risk of getting broken

Hey, I have just noticed some weird behaviour between the bridge and element web, these images aren't displaying correctly on element web: https://matrix.to/#/!LxgCDiKMJqfaHweVpH:matrix.org/$16400879708414HitfE:gitter.im?via=matrix.org&via=openastronomy.org&via=gitter.im
it looks like an inline image / hyperlink combo issue
