I was looking at vector-im/roadmap#26 and i am not really happy about the note that talks about a public archive
Shouldn't the right to privacy and to be forgotten not also respected? At least obfuscate the user details for a public record so that you have to be part of the channel at the moment the message was written
The mailing list archives also obscure adresses
at least the good ones
Both gitter and matrix both already have a set of visibility settings which make the history publically accessible.
The administrators of the room (in matrix) can decide if they want you to have to be a member of the room to see all history, history since you joined or all history is public.
madlittlemods (Eric Eastwood): A while ago you helped me re-connect #simpletask:matrix.org to gitter. I wondering if the initial out-of-sync might have happened when the (libera.chat) irc bridge kicking gitter users out of the room due to inactivity?

There's no problem at the moment, this is more of a "maybe it will save some headache in the future" thing.

No worries, I was planning on following up with details.
- The irc bridge also represents users 1:1. E.g. I appear on libera.chat as
smichel17[m]. - If a user connected to libera.chat is inactive across the entire network (doesn't send a message to any channel) for some amount of time, the network kicks them.
- Over the bridge, this results in them getting kicked from the matrix room. I would consider this a bug in the irc bridge.
I was wondering if a bridged gitter user getting kicked might confuse the gitter badger / break the bridge

If so, then any room which is bridged (plumbed) with both gitter and libera.chat is at risk of getting broken

@gitter-badger:gitter.im into the room and it seems to be working now. Probably because we're not specifying a ?server_name when joining. Do users get kicked out of the room?
fish-shell:matrix.org bridge seems broken, I'm seeing everyone's messages but I just checked the gitter web view and the gitter people aren't getting mine. 😅 been talking into a void for days

so responses to the thread aren't going to surface in the main chat in any way, right
like if there's traffic in the main chat burying the thread they're unlikely to be seen

There is some impedance mismatch there but it's not something that's going to change.

as spaces becomes more and more ready for every day use, is there any way to add gitter rooms to a space?

So we just got spammed to Jenkinsci/Jenkins room. I've not really used the gitter UI, but is there any way to delete spam?.maybe an org admin via gitter UI?
