Mirco Bauer
@meebey
because it works cross-platform
I used db4o before and wasn't satisfied
Ben Pye
@benpye
Fair enough, I take it you delete messages once they are x old then? I used to run Quassel on sqlite and had to switch to PostreSQL because the performance started to drop after a few months
But it doesn't delete old messages
Mirco Bauer
@meebey
it serialized the messages to JSON first and then inserts them into sqlite
Ben Pye
@benpye
That's what it does now?
Mirco Bauer
@meebey
in git, yes
the default setting is not to store history on disk
Ben Pye
@benpye
I'll have a better look tomorrow, you've intrigued me
Ah I see
Mirco Bauer
@meebey
I havent found anything stable enough till recently
db4o was not stable enough also the db files broke often
I hacked sqlite in like a day and so far not a single bug
and that was like 2-3 months ago
Ben Pye
@benpye
I'm curious how your json serialized format would work with with PostgreSQL as it has a JSON type, obviously more setup though
Mirco Bauer
@meebey
it would be trivial the change the code for pgsql
Ben Pye
@benpye
I may try
Mirco Bauer
@meebey
I initially planned to use my SmartDao lib
but I forgot why I didnt use :-D
it supports pgsql, mysql, sqlite
Ben Pye
@benpye
Haha
the only problem you will have to getting Smuxi to build with VS, that is difficult (it makes many assumptions that applies to Linux/MonoDevelop but not Windows/VS)
but we are working on fixing that
Ben Pye
@benpye
I can build it on MonoDevelop though it's not ideal, I do prefer VS
Mirco Bauer
@meebey
I dont remember the result for Windows/MonoDevelop but probably easier
most issues would go away if the libs are nuget handled
right now it assumes the libs are in the GAC and also a .NET Framework Dir :-D
Ben Pye
@benpye
Ohh
Mirco Bauer
@meebey
so no path nothing, just assembly name
and VS complains of course
on Linux Mono/MonoDevelop uses pkg-config
it is a tool that can report compile time information like library locations
Ben Pye
@benpye
What libs are you pulling in?
Mirco Bauer
@meebey
log4net and nini
Ben Pye
@benpye
I guess I can always just modify the project file locally for that, just be careful if I ever send a PR or such
Mirco Bauer
@meebey
:-D

just in case this chat causes some confusion: This gitter chat is not meant to replace #smuxi-devel @ freenode as the primary communication channel. This chat is only meant as show-case / test of how a web frontend for Smuxi could look like and a potential new protocol / chat system that Smuxi could support (as client).
PS: If you are now subscribed to some email notifications or something, I am sorry about that, it wasn't on purpose!
Mirco Bauer
@meebey
wow, gitter has built-in commit notications
not bad :)
Andres G. Aragoneses
@knocte
more and more web apps are appearing, that are asking you to "pin" them in your browser so they become "resident" in your day-to-day workflow (gmail, telegram, now gitter?), but I feel they consume so much more memory than a dekstop app would! I hate gitter for bringing this concept to IRC now... let's keep smuxi open ;)
Mirco Bauer
@meebey
yes webapps sucks, see my memory usage twitter rant :-D
not just the resource usage but also the way it doesnt integrate at all into my regular unified desktop experience
ArsenShnurkov
@ArsenShnurkov
test
The Server->Connect dialog remembers only first enterd password and then ingnore changes. Deleting and recreating server record helps
