@olizilla what would you say are the prerequisites for the training? familiarity with javascript and a vague idea of how a web app works?
oh, and morning

how doo
yep
we’re gonna be more specific about it
but that’s the gist
the idea is to make sure everyone is comfortable with something like
you don’t really need to know how a web app works
we’re gonna start with how the db works and syncs, and build up from there
we’ll be giving partial apps, or chunks of html and css, and then showing how to adapt them
so being able to freestyle reams of ui code isn’t important

Just had somebody (who knows stuff, but not about Meteor) complain that you don't actually link to www.meteor.com on the training page, and he had to Google it to find out what it actually was. Might not be the target audience, but I thought it was worth reporting.

aye
thanks
will add a link
I forget how outraged people get about having to google things
would be pretty sensible to have a link

Hi @rockbot! Nice to 'meet' you! waves (I figured I'd use the old-school 'action in asterisks' format because you can't see emoticons, but I'm kind of digging it!)

woo! @iteles, @rockbot is up for helping select the scholarship place. The request is that alll the applications are anonmised before she sees them. Seems like a fine plan to me.
I’m happy to do the leg work of preparation

@olizilla @rockbot @alanshaw I'm happy to do that and send them over on Friday noon! I know that I personally would like it if my Twitter profile were a part of my application to something like this as I feel it speaks to my personality, interests and more importantly, my enjoyment of learning and discovering new things - but if your preference is for them to be anonymised, I'm happy to oblige :)
(not that I'm applying of course, more of an 'if I were to apply' scenario)
Also, @rockbot , amazing, thanks for offering to select!

@iteles I ask for anonymizing applications simply so that we select solely based on the application
unconscious bias is a thing, and I'd hate for someone who wants to learn but doesn't have a twitter handle (or somesuch) be turned down in favor of someone who does :-)
in any event, looking forward to reading the applications!!
@olizilla do you have a plan for how the selections will be done?
spreadsheets with "not this time" vs "maybe?" vs "OMG YES!" for each application (or numerical scores) have worked for me in the past :-)

nothing elaborate. Maybe a top hat and a gathering at a village fête.
your way sounds better

Haha I'll be sending you the applications in a spreadsheet @rockbot so you shouldn't have to waste time on any reformatting
