@NyanKiyoshi I have a question regarding vendor SKU: how likely is it for a vendor to use a different SKU from the one that you’re using? from my experience it’s typical to use whetever the barcode contains as the SKU throughout the entire supply chain but I don’t claim to know all markets so a little context would be useful
@NyanKiyoshi as for URLs we tend to separate the database layer from the presentation logic and I believe URLs belong to presentation (even more so with single-page apps that are in full control of the routing process)

I think the principal issue, is that we have different manufacturers, depending on the product. We are trying to keep a logic in our SKUs and keep them short to allow easier internal stock management as we have different stock location. Sometimes we need to refer back to the suppliers as stock get low or to get some information from issues encountered

right but in your case your SKUs are not the same as GTIN/EAN? (or whatever your suppliers use)

I’m asking since in most stores I know the product has the same SKU across the entire supply chain (actually it has one for 1 piece of product, one for 1 box of pieces, one for 1 pallet of boxes etc.)
and it tends to be the barcode that is printed by the manufacturer if there is one (GTIN/EAN)
sorry, need to go home now
