Why was the last message written 2 minutes into the future
Alexander Köplinger
@akoeplinger
Aug 29 2015 18:35
it wasn't it's from yesterday :)

Then this site is really poorly coded
I mean, technically it's valid, but it's not optimal
Alexander Köplinger
@akoeplinger
Aug 29 2015 18:39
it shows you the date when you hover the time
Rockyfelle
@Rockyfelle
Aug 29 2015 18:40
No one is going to do that for every message
Since it shows the time at all times anyway, there's no reason they shouldn't include the date when the message is sent before 00:00

feel free to file a suggestion on https://github.com/gitterHQ/gitter/issues

Meh, this will probably be the only time I ever use this site anyway
I don't recall austria having "ö" in their alphabet
Alexander Köplinger
@akoeplinger
Aug 29 2015 18:43
sure, we're speaking german
Rockyfelle
@Rockyfelle
Aug 29 2015 18:43
I see..
So you use monodevelop I assume
Alexander Köplinger
@akoeplinger
Aug 29 2015 18:44
yeah
Rockyfelle
@Rockyfelle
Aug 29 2015 18:44
What for?
Alexander Köplinger
@akoeplinger
Aug 29 2015 18:44
mainly c# server side stuff
Rockyfelle
@Rockyfelle
Aug 29 2015 18:44
Ah
I just tried acquiring it in order to develop a multi-platform application (windows, linux, ios, android)
And it's.. not going as well as I assumed it would
Alexander Köplinger
@akoeplinger
Aug 29 2015 18:46
for android/ios stuff you need xamarin studio (which is based on monodevelop)
on windows or mac
Rockyfelle
@Rockyfelle
Aug 29 2015 18:47
I tried getting monodevelop but got xamarin studio insteas, so I have that
I can only seem to be able to choose android though, http://puu.sh/jSWRV/7442abbc62.png
Alexander Köplinger
@akoeplinger
Aug 29 2015 18:49
xamarin.ios doesn't work in xamarin studio on windows apparently
Rockyfelle
@Rockyfelle
Aug 29 2015 18:49
So, you need to develop on a mac?
Alexander Köplinger
@akoeplinger
Aug 29 2015 18:50
yes. you need one anyway to develop iOS applications (it's an apple requirement)
Rockyfelle
@Rockyfelle
Aug 29 2015 18:50
Yeah I figured, it's not a concern for now though, I mainly want to be able to develop for windows and linux
(then add the rest at time goes on)
Alexander Köplinger
@akoeplinger
Aug 29 2015 18:51
just keep in mind that xamarin is mostly focused on the mobile platforms
Rockyfelle
@Rockyfelle
Aug 29 2015 18:52
Yeah I've noticed, should I use something else?
Alexander Köplinger
@akoeplinger
Aug 29 2015 18:52
depends on what you want to do ;)
there are a few C# GUI frameworks like xwt
Rockyfelle
@Rockyfelle
Aug 29 2015 18:53
Well, I just want to create an application that workds with everything
Alexander Köplinger
@akoeplinger
Aug 29 2015 18:54
hm, I don't think something like that exists tbh :D
Rockyfelle
@Rockyfelle
Aug 29 2015 18:54
Haha
Well, just ios, android, linux, windows really ;)
Alexander Köplinger
@akoeplinger
Aug 29 2015 18:54
you can certainly factor out your business logic in a shared C# layer, but GUI is another topic
Rockyfelle
@Rockyfelle
Aug 29 2015 18:55
The GUI should only be the same for windows/linux and android/iphone
Alexander Köplinger
@akoeplinger
Aug 29 2015 18:55
ok, afaik xamarin forms should work for android/iphone and I believe windows (wpf)
Rockyfelle
@Rockyfelle
Aug 29 2015 18:56
And linux?
Alexander Köplinger
@akoeplinger
Aug 29 2015 18:56
nope
Rockyfelle
@Rockyfelle
Aug 29 2015 18:56
I'd prefferebly create the linux and windows GUI as one
Alexander Köplinger
@akoeplinger
Aug 29 2015 18:57
ah, for windows xamarin forms only works in store apps
Rockyfelle
@Rockyfelle
Aug 29 2015 18:57
That's disgusting and terrible
Alexander Köplinger
@akoeplinger
Aug 29 2015 18:57
as I said, desktop is not a focus for xamarin
Rockyfelle
@Rockyfelle
Aug 29 2015 18:58
Well, I guess I'll only use xamarin for the phone versions of said applications then
So should I use an entirely different program for windows/linux then, and if so which program
Alexander Köplinger
@akoeplinger
Aug 29 2015 18:59
you can use c# for those as well, you just need to do the UI for each of those
Rockyfelle
@Rockyfelle
Aug 29 2015 18:59
Yeah but I'd prefferebly use a a program in which I can create the UI for both at the same time
Alexander Köplinger
@akoeplinger
Aug 29 2015 19:00
xwt should give you that: https://github.com/mono/xwt
Rockyfelle
@Rockyfelle
Aug 29 2015 19:01
"Open the Xwt.sln with MonoDevelop (or VisualStudio on Windows) and build the solution" Does this mean I can use visual studio for the GUI as well or should I stick too mono?
Alexander Köplinger
@akoeplinger
Aug 29 2015 19:01
you can use VS if you want
Rockyfelle
@Rockyfelle
Aug 29 2015 19:01
But you do not prefer it yourself?
Alexander Köplinger
@akoeplinger
Aug 29 2015 19:01
if you're on windows, I don't see anything wrong with it
Rockyfelle
@Rockyfelle
Aug 29 2015 19:02
I'm confused as to how the GUI would work though, the form designer in visual studios is just for windows
Alexander Köplinger
@akoeplinger
Aug 29 2015 19:02
no, you can't use winforms in VS, you need to use Xwt
xwt has no designer if you mean that
Rockyfelle
@Rockyfelle
Aug 29 2015 19:03
D:
Anyhow, need to figure out how to intergrate this with VS then
Alexander Köplinger
@akoeplinger
Aug 29 2015 19:05
there's no "integration", you just reference Xwt.dll and start coding ;)
Rockyfelle
@Rockyfelle
Aug 29 2015 19:06
Ah I see I see, haven't used VS too much so far
Sometimes I wish github's just included a "download the things you actually need" button
Can never find what I actually need...
Rockyfelle
@Rockyfelle
Aug 29 2015 19:13
Seriosuly, where do I find the DLL files
Rockyfelle
@Rockyfelle
Aug 29 2015 19:45
Nvm, I've just not used anything like that before, however it now refuses to work, even with their own small example code
