Hey all, quick question about mac support and licensing. The readme seems to provide a way to create a mac build of monodevelop, but the website gives a download to VS for Mac.
Is there a licensing difference between the monodevelop that can be built on Mac and the VS for Mac download available from monodevelop.com?

Monodevelop now is Visual Studio under Mac. It is just a visual branding question ..

Ok, so they are the same then. Thanks!

they are not exactly the same, VSMac has a few more proprietary plugins (azure docker support etc)
but the core is the same

Sure.
I'm asking because we're adding a page summing up IDE support for dotnet for the fedora dotnet project.

dotnet as in .NET Core or mono? :D cause the former is part of the proprietary plugins iirc

Both.
And yes, we're listing proprietary stuff too, and marking it as such, hence the licensing questions.

Regarding the proprietary plugin thing, are you saying that because you need a dotnet install alongside monodevelop, or do you actually have a self-compiled plugin that is needed for .net core support?
Part of the fedora project (and our involvement with it) is to get .net core to a place being built completely open source. Clearly we're not there yet, but we're working on it.

I'm not working on VSMac/MD but from what I heard yes the dotnet core plugin is a proprietary plugin
would be best to clarify with VSMac developers of course :)

.net core support is part of the MD repo
monodevelop-dnx-addin is long obsolete
only the .net core debugger extension is proprietary
