    Vortai Hey, I've run into a rather strange issue with regards to monodevelop and F# on linux.
    Vortai For some reason the F# interactive pad only works when I run monodevelop as sudo?
    Vortai I think this is something to do with fsharpc being owned by root but I'm not certain, not enough of an expert to know.
    matrixbot
    @matrixbot
    Vortai never mind, it's actually another problem that seems to be caused by conflicting extensions.

    Hello all. I have a very basic question, to which I found no answer on the monodevelop web site, documentation of FAQ. Maybe the answer is there, but I didn't find it. What is the command that I need to run in Linux to launch the monodevelop GUI interface??
    I've installed on Ubuntu 20.04 using the preview repo

    OK, for those of you searching, the app name is "monodevelop". I couldn't find it because the Ubuntu 20.04 installation did not complete successfully. It works fine in Ubuntu 18.04.

    Vortai for me it's just monodevelop

    Hi! I'm trying to install monodevelop from the tarball but I'm getting error messages of not found packages (e.g. "Unable to find version '15.8.519' of package 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.CoreUtility'"). What can I do?

    Does version control work on Ubuntu 20.04? I installed monodevelop "apt install monodevelop", but don't see anything related to version control. The monodevelop package "suggests" a "monodevelop-versioncontrol" package that doesn't seem to exist.
    Maarten Boekhold
    @boekhold

    Ah, so there is no monodevelop package for Ubuntu 20.04 Focal. The version for 18.04 can be installed on 20.04, but the monodevelop-versioncontrol package fails to install because it depends on a version of libssl1.0.0 that is not available on 20.04.

    Pretty please release a version of monodevelop with the monodevelop-versioncontrol package for Ubuntu 20.04 Focal?

    boekhold: this area has fallen into the "no maintainers anymore" umbrella by the looks of it; if you're good at (or want to get good at) packaging you could try to take over

    Hi, just starting up monodevelop trying to load my solution and so on. I've got the solution to build but when I try to run the asp.net web project I get an error in the browser System.IO.FileNotFoundException Could not load the file 'Microsoft.Dynamic'.
    seems to be coming from mscorlib does this ring a bell for anyone?

    Hello! I'm using MonoDevelop 7.8.4 (build 2), and I'm trying to use the MonoGame templates provided (after adding the extension). MonoDevelop Created the files, but it complains that the MonoGame.Framework assembly can't be found in the framework .NET Framework 4.5 (as well as complaints about 2 .dylib files and 1 .dll.config file not existing in a folder that definitely doesn't exist) ; I found someone who added the MonoGame.Framework.DesktopGL package and then referenced that. After some doing, I found I could add in the reference from the assemblies tab of "Edit References" and have a MonoGame.Framework reference that actually has working code behind it. But after doing so (and removing the broken MonoGame.Framework reference), MonoDevelop still complains that the types and namespaces within MonoGame.Framework don't exist or could not be found (and predefined types weren't imported). All of those exist in the MonoGame.Framework that I should have a valid reference to know, but apparently don't.
    I'm not able to find much information on it, so I'd like to ask here: What does MonoDevelop want, when it's connecting a referenced assembly to a type, namespace, or class in the code created by the template/user?

    Hi anyone know how to get access to the the registration form(“https://addins.monodevelop.com/User/Login”) for visual studio for mac extensions or why it's closed?
    Liong Wanfg

    Why is there only build instructions for windows? I need a msi bin with it handling dependencies and everything by itself. I need the program to be installed on many computers with some not exactly being powerful and it is very impractical to have to build on all. Any chance I can get an easy bin or suggestion on how to make my own or something?
    Luis Sebastián de los Angeles
    @kurotori
    @LWanfg_twitter, if you are using Windows, you are probably much better off with Visual Studio, so I'd like to ask what would you call "not exactly being powerful"? Here in the high school classroom I manage, we are using Intel I3-2100 with 4 GB of RAM, and while they are not lightning fast, they sure manage to do their work fine with VS.

    Hello everyone! I'm porting VSIX to VS for Mac. And it's pretty hard cause very little information is available. What extension does is it places clickable icon near the specific comment (which is specifically highlighted), click on this icon opens a context menu with 2 menu items. Am I able to do this in VS for Mac? How can I highlight text by regex, am I able to display intra text adornments or at least light bulb with few actions?

    They left it to die without a debugger and linux build and ability to compile a project with proper access to system libraries for more than a year each.
    It was a deliberate decision each time
    Of course it's dead now
    Behrooz Amoozad
    @behrooz0az_gitlab
    direct_hex was aware of each and was(is?) actually the person in charge of packaging for linux(specially debian, taken over from meebey(DD)) and (not)bundling the debugger and packaging it in flatpak or something else(i don't recall which) but had 0 authority to voice in any complaint despite knowing full well what was happening.
    Don't question me like I just arrived here, I've read a lot of the source code of monodevelop and almost all of mono and gtk# and i know how hacky and ugly the code is.
    I bet you still compile with main thread and slluiz or whatevor his name is refuses to change it because duning kruger doesn't let him see what he has there is absolute garbage.

    Well, if he's dead. The configure and make scripts are out of date, and the project does not compile.

    If the project is compilable, better share binaries.

    @behrooz0az_gitlab Yes monodevelop is dead, but there is a community effort (not related to Microsoft) that is attempting to get it going again in a fork, this is happening over at https://github.com/dotdevelop, sounds like you have lots of knowledge of the codebase maybe you can help out.
    lytico
    @lytico
    @CesarNavaMercadazo thank you for trying. Can you specify what didn't work with compiling, maybe by issuing here: https://github.com/dotdevelop/dotdevelop/issues ? binaries: in this stage of the project, it's to early to provide them (or packages). Current state is not production ready.

    So I've been porting a lot of monodevelop to .net core, I might try to update to .net 5 soon. Everything seems to be working, I've mostly just got the core working with some gui. I have made a few changes to the code base but nothing to significant. Since ms basically owns this now is there going to be an issue? License wise or anything?
    lytico
    @lytico
    @hellzhammer that's great! maybe merging the efforts? see: https://github.com/dotdevelop/community
    do you have a link to your branch/repo?
