    Great. I will test it.

    They left it to die without a debugger and linux build and ability to compile a project with proper access to system libraries for more than a year each.
    It was a deliberate decision each time
    Of course it's dead now

    @behrooz0az_gitlab
    direct_hex was aware of each and was(is?) actually the person in charge of packaging for linux(specially debian, taken over from meebey(DD)) and (not)bundling the debugger and packaging it in flatpak or something else(i don't recall which) but had 0 authority to voice in any complaint despite knowing full well what was happening.
    Don't question me like I just arrived here, I've read a lot of the source code of monodevelop and almost all of mono and gtk# and i know how hacky and ugly the code is.
    I bet you still compile with main thread and slluiz or whatevor his name is refuses to change it because duning kruger doesn't let him see what he has there is absolute garbage.

    Well, if he's dead. The configure and make scripts are out of date, and the project does not compile.

    If the project is compilable, better share binaries.

    @trampster
    @behrooz0az_gitlab Yes monodevelop is dead, but there is a community effort (not related to Microsoft) that is attempting to get it going again in a fork, this is happening over at https://github.com/dotdevelop, sounds like you have lots of knowledge of the codebase maybe you can help out.
    lytico
    @lytico
    @CesarNavaMercadazo thank you for trying. Can you specify what didn't work with compiling, maybe by issuing here: https://github.com/dotdevelop/dotdevelop/issues ? binaries: in this stage of the project, it's to early to provide them (or packages). Current state is not production ready.

    So I've been porting a lot of monodevelop to .net core, I might try to update to .net 5 soon. Everything seems to be working, I've mostly just got the core working with some gui. I have made a few changes to the code base but nothing to significant. Since ms basically owns this now is there going to be an issue? License wise or anything?
    lytico
    @lytico
    @hellzhammer that's great! maybe merging the efforts? see: https://github.com/dotdevelop/community
    do you have a link to your branch/repo?
    Lex Li
    @lextm
    @hellzhammer Microsoft owns but abandoned it. As MonoDevelop is in general released under MIT/X11 license, https://www.monodevelop.com/developers/#a-note-on-licensing You can almost do whatever you like.
    Lex Li
    @lextm
    @hellzhammer BTW, how can it be "nothing too significant"? Migrating the project system to the SDK style is a huge change. Once you share some code, we can take a look.

    Hello everyone! IGlyphFactoryInterface on Mac should return object. But what actually I should return in order to get glyph in the gutter? I tried both NSImage and GtkImage. None of that works.

    Also, ClassificationFormatDefinition is unable to change foreground color of comment line. Why?

    Hi, @helviett
    I guess you search for something like this (shell command): "/Applications/Visual Studio.app/Contents/MacOS/vstool" setup pack YourProject/bin/Release/net472/YourProject.dll

    @eit52david

    Hello, I am interested in your community effort to revive monodevelop as dotdevelop. I tried to compile the new dotdevelop_oe_8.6 branch on my ubuntu 20.04 system, but I get the following error during compilation:

    Xwt.GtkBackend/CustomListModel.cs(65,24): error CS0506: 'CustomListModel.Dispose()': cannot override inherited member 'Object.Dispose()' because it is not marked virtual, abstract, or override [/home/david/dotdevelop/main/external/xwt/Xwt.Gtk/Xwt.Gtk.csproj]

    steps as recommended in README:
    git clone -b dotdevelop_oe_8.6 https://github.com/dotdevelop/dotdevelop.git

    cd dotdevelop/

    ./configure --profile=gnome

    make

    @lextm
    @eit52david Unfortunately the README file didn't include all necessary details. You have to install gtk-sharp2, not gtk-sharp3, https://github.com/dotdevelop/dotdevelop/blob/dotdevelop_oe_8.6/.github/workflows/monodevelop.yml#L22
    You have to completely uninstall gtk-sharp3 and then install gtk-sharp2.

    Hello monodevelop does not open for me. I wrote in detail here: mono/monodevelop#9665 can you help?
    eit52david
    @eit52david
    @lextm I just check whether gtk-sharp3 is (still) installed on my system, but I only have gtk-sharp2 now on my machine. It seems like I forgot to remove libglib3.0-cil and libglib3.0-cil-dev :D now it compiles (without VersionControl addin)

    try with .NETCore/.NET5?
    Lex Li
    @lextm
    @helviett Starting from Jan 2020, VS for Mac and MonoDevelop were on separate ways, so if your goal is to develop an extension of VS for Mac, then the best resource is Microsoft at this moment. They didn't publish an article on how to extend VS for Mac 2019 (the old one is for VS for Mac 2017), so there can be huge changes coming in that closed source IDE.
    Lex Li
    @lextm
    @ramukka_twitter What kind of help do you need? Addins can define code templates (snippets) so you can follow examples like https://github.com/mono/monodevelop/blob/fb12ccb7f4245eca20803661deaa37ead0ec35af/main/src/addins/AspNet/Razor/Razor-templates.xml If your snippets are in XML files with another schema, you might convert to MonoDevelop's schema.

    can someone help with this error?
    mono_gdb_render_native_backtraces not supported on this platform, unable to find gdb or lldb
    Andres G. Aragoneses
    @knocte
    sounds like something you should ask in the mono channel, not here
