Daniel L. Polanco
@DanTheColoradan
Great :D let me know if you need any help!
Geoff Bourne
@itzg
FYI https://hub.docker.com/r/itzg/minecraft-server/ with Java 8 base image has been pushed
Daniel L. Polanco
@DanTheColoradan
Woot! I’m tempted to pull the update right now x) Family is playing though and they don’t interruptions -_-
Geoff Bourne
@itzg
Also, since I have started to use Slack at work, I thought we could give it a try for us at https://moorkop.slack.com/ ...but I think I'll need to send out invites
Daniel L. Polanco
@DanTheColoradan
K.
Geoff Bourne
@itzg
yes, wi-fi and server interruptions are quite family-disruptive :)
Daniel L. Polanco
@DanTheColoradan
lol
too true.
Geoff Bourne
@itzg
I have to upgrade router firmware in the middle of the night :)
Daniel L. Polanco
@DanTheColoradan
We have macs round here, and the Apple router updates itself. However, like all Apple products, it’s not power user friendly. shrug tradeoffs
Geoff Bourne
@itzg
Yeah, I have OpenWRT on my router...but not sure what benefits I'm gaining other than geek-points
Daniel L. Polanco
@DanTheColoradan
Definitely loads of options! haha I’ve used it and Tomato before.
Daniel L. Polanco
@DanTheColoradan
Finally have a change now to test J8 mc server :0
Geoff Bourne
@itzg
Excellent. I had switched out the user/startup logic so I'm curious if that's going to be too disruptive for -v use.
Daniel L. Polanco
@DanTheColoradan
So far so good.
Geoff Bourne
@itzg
(Glad you're using gitter btw, I have been convincing myself that I still like it better since it's tighter with github)
Daniel L. Polanco
@DanTheColoradan
lol I didn’t even think of it. I just opened it as first choice.
Geoff Bourne
@itzg
Subconsciously, you chose :)
Daniel L. Polanco
@DanTheColoradan
I’m definitely biased x)
I like gitter a lot. I should just contribute to it.
There’s also Mattermost.
Geoff Bourne
@itzg
Thanks for the pointer to Mattermost...I hadn't heard of that one before
Daniel L. Polanco
@DanTheColoradan
It looks pretty nice. I’ve been (still) struggling to get Eclipse Che to work so I put it on hold. I had it working for a bit and it was great though (previous version).
Che is still giving me a hard time with Carina. I want to pair program with some other 1st year graduate students, but it gives me weird erros like "failed to update store for object type *libnetwork.endpoint: Unexpected response code: 413 (Value exceeds 524288 byte limit)” and I don’t have the atm to figure out where in the rabbit hole that goes.
Geoff Bourne
@itzg
Heads up, I'm going to rebuild the Carina cluster running https://mccy-staging.itzg.me so that I can upgrade to Docker 1.10...might be down for a while depending on how all my build/script changes are going
Daniel L. Polanco
@DanTheColoradan
K :)
Geoff Bourne
@itzg
I'm also simplifying the Dockerfile so it'll be easier to run locally
Daniel L. Polanco
@DanTheColoradan
J8 works great. No problems.
Geoff Bourne
@itzg
Cool. And we're back in business with https://mccy-staging.itzg.me now with an overlay network in-use.
Daniel L. Polanco
@DanTheColoradan
network in-use?
Geoff Bourne
@itzg
so far just from proxy -> mccy-engine it's using a Swarm overlay network rather than requiring both containers be on the same node
...confirmation that I'll be able to do the same from mc-server -> mccy-engine for world/mod donwloads
Daniel L. Polanco
@DanTheColoradan
oooh. Cool! :clap: k
Geoff Bourne
@itzg
For example, the current state:
 $ docker network inspect mastermccy_mccy-backend                                                                                                                                           [22:30:06]

@DanTheColoradan
Ya there?
Geoff Bourne
@itzg
Yep
Daniel L. Polanco
@DanTheColoradan
Can I setup the Dockerfile to run using IntelliJ? I redownloaded the project and IntelliJ is prompting setup if I want to.
Geoff Bourne
@itzg
Should be able to...I didn't work at one point for me, but I think I had a syntax error at that point
Daniel L. Polanco
@DanTheColoradan

hm. k
Geoff Bourne
@itzg
You point that a local Docker daemon or even off to Carina
Oh yeah, I was starting to wonder what Docker client version IntelliJ was
Daniel L. Polanco
@DanTheColoradan
switching to slack
Geoff Bourne
@itzg
Fun discovery, got the Gitter desktop app installed on my Ubuntu laptop without any problems
Daniel L. Polanco
@DanTheColoradan
And slack? I think they are both Electron apps I believe?
Geoff Bourne
@itzg
Gitter is node.js based...which I think Electron is based on. But yeah, Slack for sure is Electron
Geoff Bourne
@itzg
BTW, here's the quick and dirty build/run procedure when there's a local Docker daemon:
./mvnw package
docker build -t mccy-engine .
docker run -d -p 8080:8080 -v /var/run/docker.sock:/var/run/docker.sock --name mccy mccy-engine
Daniel L. Polanco
@DanTheColoradan
by local Docker daemon… Does that mean ‘carina env’able?
Or only physically local docker-machine.
Geoff Bourne
@itzg
Like in a Linux'y sense...but yes, turns out that it is carina'able
