@KirstieJane
And - importantly - YAY thank you for submitting a proposal!
@/all you're all mega encouraged to submit your ideas - they can be as big or as small as you'd like! I'm super happy to chat more if you haven't been to MozFest before and have questions :grinning:
Bastian Greshake Tzovaras
@gedankenstuecke
@KirstieJane great!

WOW REUNION AT MOZFEST! WOW REUNION AT MOZFEST!
Arliss Collins
@arlissc
the more, the merrier - if you ask me :)
Kirstie Whitaker
@KirstieJane
The deadline is August 1st btw - and submitting something that isn't fully fleshed out is better than missing it (please!)

@auremoser
@RaoOfPhysics ! I missed your message, I use keybase but haven't dealt with their filesystem, thought I know about LFS and Spideroak :)
Oliver Sauter
@oliversauter
Hey @KirstieJane thanks!

Achintya Rao
@RaoOfPhysics
@auremoser: Let me know if you give it a whirl. I want to test the whole encrypted file-sharing system. Their setup seems kinda fascinating: you mount and unmount remote drives as needed.
(If I understand it correctly.)
My UK visa expires before MozFest and given the stress I’m going through with my US visa application, I’m not sure I’m going to bother applying for a UK one until next year.
Aurelia Moser
@auremoser
it's still very weird to me that keybase was founded/funded by the fellas who made ok cupid
Abigail Cabunoc Mayes
@acabunoc
@auremoser weirddd, I had no idea!
Aurelia Moser
@auremoser
yes! also, I might be doing something wrong @RaoOfPhysics but i don't think the filesystem is out, I've the client installed and it's a bunch of placeholder stuff. maybe that's just the test/demo though
Achintya Rao
@RaoOfPhysics
@auremoser: Oh! No idea why that is. You’re on the latest version, yes, with the rudimentary GUI solution? The menubar client is kinda buggy. I received an e-mail from them inviting me to try the filesystem, so maybe they haven’t rolled it out to all users yet.
Aurelia Moser
@auremoser
they must like you better!
:P
Achintya Rao
@RaoOfPhysics
HEATHENS!
Aurelia Moser
@auremoser
i mean keybase/client#1545
I complain a lot
:P
Achintya Rao
@RaoOfPhysics
Complaints fix things, so keep on complaining (in the free world… dun dun dun…).
Aurelia Moser
@auremoser

preach

Achintya Rao
@RaoOfPhysics
Can you try:
cd /keybase/private/raoofphysics,aure
Aurelia Moser
@auremoser
whoa, unintended header

Aurelia Moser
@auremoser
damnit, i will never gitter right :(
i'm afraid my internet isn't letting me right now (in nairobi), but i'll try when i'm on better wifi!
Achintya Rao
@RaoOfPhysics
If you have the latest binary downloaded, and your keybase client is running (check with $ keybase ctl), then you should be able to open that directory and see the file in it.
Ok, cool.
:)

Hey @blahah, @gedankenstuecke, @betatim, all, have you seen this? https://github.com/attic-labs/noms
Aurelia Moser
@auremoser
yes yes @RaoOfPhysics !
Achintya Rao
@RaoOfPhysics
Wish I understood how it works. :P
(Or how to use it correctly.)
Tim Head
@betatim
timezones, let's work those out first shall we ;p
Aurelia Moser
@auremoser
yeah also @RaoOfPhysics I like the noms logo but I am having troubles figuring out how it is distinct from dat-data.com, maybe @blahah knows
Rik
@blahah
I have not seen it but their four bullet points are exactly the right ones
so dat-data.com and dat generally are about creating a very robust decentralised data publishing, versioning and sharing infrastructure
it seems at though noms is very specifically a database
dat is able to share any file, directory, dataset, etc
Rik
@blahah
noms is a database you can insert stuff into, query stuff from, but it is built on top of a decentralised infrastructure like dat's
Dominic Tarr has spent the last 4 years thinking about database design and iterating on little test cases, and this was essentially his conclusion
noms is both
