@carlosperate
Will that be the last beta/rc?
I've tagged a couple of GitHub issues with "high priority" as things we should try to fix before the final release.
Nicholas Tollervey
@ntoll
As always, I'm flexible. ;-)
Just as I try to sit down to get these PR's worked through, everyone decides it would be a good idea to phone me up. Bear with... I'm on this but it might be tomorrow morning before I get the release cut.
Nicholas Tollervey
@ntoll
What exactly did we decide on the splash screen on top discussion..?
I seem to remember removing it as enforced, but then it gets easily hidden on first launch on Windows.
So we have a new problem (that requires it to be on enforced on top).
Nicholas Tollervey
@ntoll
OK.... I've looked through the PRs. I have to stop now because of family commitments, but will build new installers tomorrow morning. If the installer assets I build look OK to you, I'll announce the release.
Honestly, I'm being dragged off for unplanned Christmas shopping taxiing. We'll get there...

@carlosperate
No worries, a beta or RC release tomorrow will be great!
Btw, will the windows installer be signed?
Nicholas Tollervey
@ntoll
Not yet. Still working on that.
Carlos Pereira Atencio
@carlosperate
It's unlikely, but I wonder if the antivirus issue is worse when Mu is installed unsigned. Once that is sorted it would be interesting to test that
Nicholas Tollervey
@ntoll
Yes (sorry, just about to sit down to a family meal). I'm trying to work out the certificate story. The hurdle is the notorization process - I'll need to have a lawyer attest and affirm I am who I say I am, and different lawyers and certificate authorities require different combinations of stuff for this to be complete.
Carlos Pereira Atencio
@carlosperate
Yeah, it sounds like a real PITA
Nicholas Tollervey
@ntoll
OK... cutting a release now. Just compiling the changes.rst and then building all the things. I'll post the installers on here for folks to check. Once people say, "yup, LGTM" then I'll cut the release on GitHub, PyPI and announce it via the blog.
Nicholas Tollervey
@ntoll
When that goes green I'll make the installers
Yes. That's a Christmas themed changelog. :-)
No. I've not been at the sherry. :-)
Nicholas Tollervey
@ntoll
Can someone give that a test run please..?
Nicholas Tollervey
@ntoll
Please can someone try that too, and report back. Thank you..!
Draft GitHub release coming in a moment.

@ntoll
I'm AFK for a few hours, but have the blog post and codewith.mu updates all ready to go once folks @/all have checked the installers and given me a :+1:

Just about to try the Windows installer...

I've left it starting up, but I've got a couple of comments...

Having selected the [x] Start Mu checkbox, I had to wait something like 10 seconds before anything appeared. I'd actually started running Task Manager to see if it was running before the splash screen popped up.

The splash screen is too big for my 14" laptop screen. I took a screen snip which I'll drop here in a mo. But the long and short is that, while you can see the animated snake, you can't see any of the info log underneath!

I have things to get ready this evening for tomorrow evening, but I will try to find some time to look at that, to see if there's a ready answer for the delay/splash size
It does start up, but the editor and the initial mode-selection are also slightly off-screen
I had to grab the frame and move it into view before I could [Ok] the mode selection
Nicholas Tollervey
@ntoll
@tjguk:matrix.org great minds think alike.... I've just done exactly the same and sbmitted: mu-editor/mu#1939

Although I don't see the off-screen problem.
I've exercised both OSX and Windows versions of beta-7 and fairly confident "they work" to a releasable state.
Unless I hear anything different by midday uk-time tomorrow, I'll push the release and announce.
As always, many many thanks for everyone's efforts with this release.

The screen position might be to do with windows default position, but I’d be surprised as this was a brand new user for testing

Hi all. I will try installing b7 later today in three Windows machines, one with HD display (might be able to duplicate @tjguk:matrix.org 's problem, one FullHD and one 4K, mixing Intel and AMD CPU in the way! No Macs though! Linux just on a RBP4 2GB...
Carlos Pereira Atencio
@carlosperate
@tjguk:matrix.org is your display high resolution with Windows setting a zoom level? My guess would be that Qt or Windows is incorrectly applying the hidpi settings to the app
Carlos Pereira Atencio
@carlosperate
A simple test to the macOS installer and works wonderfully! (Big Sur x86_64)

Windows 10 21H1 HD 100% scaling looking good. Same 10 s lag as reported before; first launch takes about 3 minutes
And there another "blank" moment post first launch and right before actually seeing Mu. Other than that, all looking good - it even opened in dark mode and loaded the last working file, similar to the last run!
Tiago Montes
@tmontes

1.1.0b7 looking good from a minimal launch + Python 3 REPL + Python 3 debug perspective with minimal turtle programs on OLD macOS 10.14.6 Mojave.

...wondering if it is ok for Apple Silicon Macs (crossing fingers)

Nicholas Tollervey
@ntoll
OK... well. Looks like we're good to go. Just getting the update to the site, blog post and release all ready. I'll post here when it's done.
Nicholas Tollervey
@ntoll
Hi folks.... all done. Here's the blog announcing the release. https://madewith.mu/mu/users/2021/12/22/beta7.html I have to say the art work took an inordinate amount of time (well, maybe 2 minutes). :-P Season's greetings to you all, and many many thanks for all the amazing work contributed to Mu. I'll be AFK for perhaps the next week or so but I'm really looking forward to things coming together in 2022 for more Mu-related progress, updates and improvements.
