Can someone give that a test run please..?

Please can someone try that too, and report back. Thank you..!
Draft GitHub release coming in a moment.

I'm AFK for a few hours, but have the blog post and codewith.mu updates all ready to go once folks @/all have checked the installers and given me a :+1:

Just about to try the Windows installer...

I've left it starting up, but I've got a couple of comments...

Having selected the [x] Start Mu checkbox, I had to wait something like 10 seconds before anything appeared. I'd actually started running Task Manager to see if it was running before the splash screen popped up.

The splash screen is too big for my 14" laptop screen. I took a screen snip which I'll drop here in a mo. But the long and short is that, while you can see the animated snake, you can't see any of the info log underneath!

I have things to get ready this evening for tomorrow evening, but I will try to find some time to look at that, to see if there's a ready answer for the delay/splash size
It does start up, but the editor and the initial mode-selection are also slightly off-screen
I had to grab the frame and move it into view before I could [Ok] the mode selection

@ntoll
@tjguk:matrix.org great minds think alike.... I've just done exactly the same and sbmitted: mu-editor/mu#1939

Although I don't see the off-screen problem.
I've exercised both OSX and Windows versions of beta-7 and fairly confident "they work" to a releasable state.
Unless I hear anything different by midday uk-time tomorrow, I'll push the release and announce.
As always, many many thanks for everyone's efforts with this release.

The screen position might be to do with windows default position, but Iā€™d be surprised as this was a brand new user for testing

Hi all. I will try installing b7 later today in three Windows machines, one with HD display (might be able to duplicate @tjguk:matrix.org 's problem, one FullHD and one 4K, mixing Intel and AMD CPU in the way! No Macs though! Linux just on a RBP4 2GB...
Carlos Pereira Atencio
@carlosperate
@tjguk:matrix.org is your display high resolution with Windows setting a zoom level? My guess would be that Qt or Windows is incorrectly applying the hidpi settings to the app

@carlosperate
A simple test to the macOS installer and works wonderfully! (Big Sur x86_64)

Windows 10 21H1 HD 100% scaling looking good. Same 10 s lag as reported before; first launch takes about 3 minutes
And there another "blank" moment post first launch and right before actually seeing Mu. Other than that, all looking good - it even opened in dark mode and loaded the last working file, similar to the last run!
Tiago Montes
@tmontes

1.1.0b7 looking good from a minimal launch + Python 3 REPL + Python 3 debug perspective with minimal turtle programs on OLD macOS 10.14.6 Mojave.

...wondering if it is ok for Apple Silicon Macs (crossing fingers)

@ntoll
OK... well. Looks like we're good to go. Just getting the update to the site, blog post and release all ready. I'll post here when it's done.

@ntoll
Hi folks.... all done. Here's the blog announcing the release. https://madewith.mu/mu/users/2021/12/22/beta7.html I have to say the art work took an inordinate amount of time (well, maybe 2 minutes). :-P Season's greetings to you all, and many many thanks for all the amazing work contributed to Mu. I'll be AFK for perhaps the next week or so but I'm really looking forward to things coming together in 2022 for more Mu-related progress, updates and improvements.

Just read the changelog from Merry Old "Saint" Nicholas šŸ™‚

Although I actually created the trivial PR #1921, we should credit https://github.com/hmmkay who actually analysed the problem and proposed the solution.

Ok, got a few hours spare to try to pick up some of the install/venv-related issues. @carlosperate do you have a single issue which is tracking the multiple-startup issues? (ie where we're trying to create the mu_code folder or the venv itself twice at the same time?
Carlos Pereira Atencio
@carlosperate
The multiple instances launching and racing is captured here: mu-editor/mu#1755
And the single instance application discussion is in mu-editor/mu#276
If the sharedmemory method works it sounds a lot better than the lock file

@tjguk:matrix.org

Thanks. I'll look into those later. I did try the sharedmemory approach briefly earlier. For some reason I couldn't get it to work as expected but I'll double-check and try again

Odd sorta Christmas present for Mu: I seem to have found someone willing to translate i'r Gymraeg
I've been on the lookout for a while, given it is a relatively obvious missing language, and seem to have found a Cymro who knows there way around a .po

So I'm away for a week and mostly offline. Which won't, I'm afraid, seem very different from my presence these last few months ā˜¹ļø Sadly I simply have less energy than I used to and I'm not necessarily very good at husbanding it. I've got some sessions over the next couple of months with the cardio-rehab team at St George's which should help be learn how to eat/live/exercise better. Hopefully that'll help me pick up a bit.

In any case, a Happy New Year to you all and here's to a final release Real Soon Now[tm] šŸ˜€

Morning morning folks. Happy new year to you all. Just stepping back into a torrent of emails and catch ups after self-enforced stay-away-from-computers time over the holiday season.
@tjguk:matrix.org the most important thing is that you look after yourself and your health. We're all volunteers here and so please don't sweat anything about Mu.... but I really appreciate your update and look forward to catching up again soon.
So it looks like there were problems with the pre-Xmas release. I've meetings for "real work" today, all day, and a mountain of emails to climb too. I'll try to catch up later today or tomorrow.
Nicholas Tollervey
@ntoll
Hi folks, @/all I'm so sorry about the late nature of this, but I'm not going to be able to make this evening's scheduled Mu moot. My daughter just told me she needs taking back to university for various reasons (nothing bad, just really terrible timing and unforeseen). I'll email this as well, but not cancel the meeting just in case folks still want to meet. An alternative might be to bump the meeting by a week and convene next Monday..?

Sorry; was at a hospital appt; happy to defer to next week. Hope P gets to Uni successfully šŸ™‚

Next Monday will do fine! All the best!
zbrown:matrix.org @zbrown:matrix.org had an entirely unproductive trip in last week where they ended up acting as proxy for various people who simply couldn't travel back with less than 48 hours notice
