Arik Hadas
@ahadas
cool, thanks :)
Giorgos Retsinas
@elemongw
@ahadas turns out I can't. I get "remote: Permission to mucommander/mucommander.wiki.git denied to elemongw.". I thought since I can post changes to the wiki via the webui it would also allow me to do so via git but seems like that's not the case. Maybe there is a separate permission for this; not sure exactly how it works either. I could always add the changes one by one, they are not that many.
Arik Hadas
@ahadas
@elemongw yeah, it seems I can't grant access specifically to mucommander.wiki so I guess it leaves us with doing the changes through the web ui..
Giorgos Retsinas
@elemongw
No worries. I did so and just now finished transferring all the changes. One note, turns out the webui does not allow you to upload images so I had to direct link to the mucommander png located in the repo in order to display the logo on the Sidebar. I think we should be fine considering the location of the png does not change. I also updated the Access issues on macOS page with the troubleshooting steps from #517. Let me know if you have any notes.

@Pasqualle
hi. Where can I find a nice dark theme for windows?
Giorgos Retsinas
@elemongw
Hi @Pasqualle, did you try SolarizedDark?
Arik Hadas
@ahadas
@elemongw sorry for the late reply - pointing to images in the repo is fine and the changes to the wiki look great, thanks!

Hello, I'm trying to run MuCommander on openjdk-11-jre-headless:amd64 11.0.13+8-1~deb11u1 and I'm getting:

ERROR: Bundle mucommander-core [109] Error starting file:/usr/share/mucommander/app/mucommander-core-0.9.7.jar (org.osgi.framework.BundleException: Activator start error in bundle mucommander-core [109].)
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class java.awt.Toolkit

at com.mucommander.ui.main.osgi.ProtocolPanelProviderTracker.addingService(ProtocolPanelProviderTracker.java:24) ... and so on

Giorgos Retsinas
@elemongw
Hi @RipperSK, the headless package is not enough. Try installing the full jre and then the error should disappear.
Arik Hadas
@ahadas
right, mucommander uses java awt and swing so jre-headless is not enough

Hi everyone, sharing some good news - we've reached 52 liked Dropbox users and that enables us to apply for production status!

@elemongw - Thanks, I've installed openjdk-11-jre which fixed the issue.

Hi everybody, any tips on configuring intellij to develop on mucommander?
I have imported the main gradle project and can successfully compile
but I don't know how to get intellij to recognize the sub-projects. so no code completion/other ide features work. It's just a text editor
Arik Hadas
@ahadas
@gerolfscherr unfortunately I don't have an answer for that since I don't use Intellij, it works out-of-the-box with Eclipse..
Gerolf Scherr
@gerolfscherr
  • after a few restarts it worked like a charm :-D
how do I enable the debug messages ? like LOGGER.debug - it doesn't print anything in the console
Gerolf Scherr
@gerolfscherr
and what would be the right way to write a test case and run it?
i wrote a test program with a main function in mucommander-core/test/com.mucommander.search, but it references a class in another submodule, but I get a classnotfounderror.
Arik Hadas
@ahadas
@gerolfscherr about logging - you can change the log level in debug console (Help -> Debug console -> Level), FINE is mapped to DEBUG level
about test cases - so the test needs to access a class that the project it resides in can't access?
(btw, about the log level, it is persisted to the preferences.xml file, so you can also change it there)
Gerolf Scherr
@gerolfscherr
thanks mate

Hi guys. I am just wondering where to get the dark theme that is on displayed on the official website? Tried googling but I guess I am too much of an amateur :S
Arik Hadas
@ahadas
@SakJaTeda_twitter hehe, good question - you can check this with @Pasqualle

Hi, I am a bit confused about Mark -> Compare Folders. Is there an explanation about what it does exactly?
I'm looking for a "Synchronize Directories" feature much like in Double Commander / Total Commander.
Arik Hadas
@ahadas
@jimtng:matrix.org it goes over the files presented in both panels and mark the ones that are different. files that appear in both folders won't be marked. it doesn't synchronizes the folders so I'm afraid it won't provide you with the functionality you're looking for

It would be great if binaries (especially dmg file for Mac) were posted on the nightly build page.
Andreas
@Andreas0602
Okay, I see that meanwhile v1.0.0 has been released on the official website. In principle, that's great, but unfortunately, macOS says that the app is damaged, and that it should be moved to trash.
This problem can be fixed by running "sudo xattr -cr /Applications/muCommander.app". For a nighly build, this might be acceptable, but an official release should not have this problem.
Arik Hadas
@ahadas
@Andreas0602 posting a dmg for the nightly build requires executing a job on macOS.. do you know a reasonable way to achieve that?
Arik Hadas
@ahadas
regarding the issue you wrote about with v1.0.0 - yeah, it's a known issue that is documented on the readme page:
https://github.com/mucommander/mucommander/blob/master/package/readme.txt#L62-L63
there has always been a question whether it is worth paying 99$ a year to get an Apple developer account and being able to sign the application as people find this alternative themselves or use homebrew (note that it was updated already: Homebrew/homebrew-cask#122126)
Andreas
@Andreas0602

Hmm, with with v0.9.7, there was no message saying that the app was damaged. How did you manage to avoid that message with v0.9.7? There was only a message saying that the developer could not be verified. These are two different messages. The latter one is quite common. It can easily be fixed by the user without the need to run a command in the terminal.

Also, the advice in readme.txt to apply the xattr command to the file <jar_name>.jar is not very helpful. The advice is imprecise, because it does not tell the exact path and name of the jar file to which the xattr command should be applied. As I said before, I had to apply the xattr command to muCommander.app, not to some jar file, to fix the problem. I'm downloading a lot of different apps from the internet, but so far I never had to mess around with the xattr command to make them work.

And no, sorry, I don't know how to automate the process of building a dmg on macOS.

Andreas
@Andreas0602
You could use hdiutil to build a dmg on macOS: https://ss64.com/osx/hdiutil.html
Arik Hadas
@ahadas
@Andreas0602 thanks for the feedback! the only change I remember is switching to jpackage, I doubt that's the reason though. I see more project face this like chromium (https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/q9d772/homebrew_chromium_is_damaged_and_cant_be_openend/) so it could be a consequence of something that has changed in macOS
I'll probably sign the application next time, that is likely to solve all those issues (and in addition, muCommander could be uploaded to the AppStore)

@Pasqualle

Hi guys. I am just wondering where to get the dark theme that is on displayed on the official website? Tried googling but I guess I am too much of an amateur :S

The screenshot is from ubuntu. I do not use it currently, but I think it came with gnome settings. I could not find a similar dark theme on windows.

Arik Hadas
@ahadas
@SakJaTeda_twitter FYI, I'm working on adding flatlaf and managed to get to a similar dark theme, check it out: https://ibb.co/w6D6WZm
Andreas
@Andreas0602
That's good to hear, @ahadas. It will solve some other problems too. However, I would like to draw your attention to one small problem with flatlaf: In the column headers NAME, SIZE, DATE etc, the arrow indicating the sort order is not visible. It would be good if you could find a way to fix this.
Arik Hadas
@ahadas
@Andreas0602 nice catch, yeah, those arrows are indeed not visible with flatlaf. but it wouldn't make much sense to patch it in mucommander - better to change add that to flatlaf. so how about filing an issue to flatlaf about that (https://github.com/JFormDesigner/FlatLaf/issues) ?
Arik Hadas
@ahadas
Unless it's a result of how we set the header.. I'll take a look
Andreas
@Andreas0602
@ahadas, all LAFs coming with muCommander (CDE/Motiv, Metal, Nimbus) have the same issue, except Mac OS X.
Arik Hadas
@ahadas
yeah, only macOS though
Andreas
@Andreas0602
I just tried the VAqua Look & Feel, and the arrows in the column headers are missing there too. So, filing an issue to flatlaf would not make much sense. I'll open a ticket for muCommander.
Arik Hadas
@ahadas
thanks @Andreas0602 , it seems to be a consequence of https://github.com/mucommander/mucommander/blob/1.0.0-1/mucommander-core/src/main/java/com/mucommander/ui/main/table/FileTableColumnModel.java#L85-L87 - I guess we need to do that per L&F rather than per operating system..
