Hello, I'm Carlos, Nautilus maintainer. I wanted to check what's the status of this extension since we are moving to gtk4 for next cycle and wether that was a possibility for this extension too
Fabien LOISON
@flozz
hello
This extension is not actively developed but still maintained :)
Carlos Soriano Sánchez
@csoriano_gitlab
oh I see, it looks quite cool
I guess the only thing needed is for vte to have a gtk4 port right? There isn't much else needed by the extension
Fabien LOISON
@flozz
sadly this extension is a big hack so I do not know
It workaround many thing as the extension API is very limited
Carlos Soriano Sánchez
@csoriano_gitlab
yeah, the extension system of Nautilus is crap
good job anyway to be able to pull this with the nautilus extension system
Fabien LOISON
@flozz
(currently it us an event to know when a widget called "crowbar" is inserted, and then it takes its parent, it removes everything in the tab to add a vpanel,...)
thanks :)
If I have some time, I will try to port it to GTK 4
Carlos Soriano Sánchez
@csoriano_gitlab
cool, looking at the code doesn't seem that much would have changed
Fabien LOISON
@flozz
can I build a dev branch of Nautilus with GNOME Builder ?
ok thats great if there is not much to do :)
Carlos Soriano Sánchez
@csoriano_gitlab
yes, unfortunately external extensions are not supported with flatpaked Nautilus yet, we seriously need to rework the whole extension system :/
(although supporting this wouldn't need a rework, but rather some code to support Flatpak extensions)
so my advice would be to have a fedora 28/rawhide and build Nautilus natively there
I did that yesterday for my extensions testing, and it worked just fine
Fabien LOISON
@flozz
I think I can install this on a VM or on my old laptop :)
Carlos Soriano Sánchez
@csoriano_gitlab
cool
I didn't merge yet that work though
Fabien LOISON
@flozz
ok

When will GTK4 Nautilus be released ?
Carlos Soriano Sánchez
@csoriano_gitlab
and related merge requests
that's the thing, I'm not sure... maybe a wiser option would be to release early 3.30 and branch already for 3.32
so we will have more than one cycle to pull this off and leave time for extension devs to do the port
Fabien LOISON
@flozz
ok :)
I joined #nautilus
Carlos Soriano Sánchez
@csoriano_gitlab

Nautilus terminal shows up, but doesn't follow where I go in nautilus with cd commands, any advice?
Fabien LOISON
@flozz
Hi, is there some useful log if you run this in the terminal: nautilus -q && nautilus ?
Sam Robbins
@samrobbins85
Not sure what I'm supposed to do about this "PyGIWarning: Vte was imported without specifying a version first. Use gi.require_version('Vte', '2.91') before import to ensure that the right version gets loaded."
Fabien LOISON
@flozz
This is not related to your issue
I forgot to tell you to execute the following command first: export NAUTILUS_TERMINAL_DEBUG=true
this will enable debug logs of Nautilus Terminal
Sam Robbins
@samrobbins85
No other errors come up
Fabien LOISON
@flozz
when you start nautilus with Nautilus Terminal enabled and with this in the environment, it should print a lot of lines
How did you installed Nautilus Temrinal ?
Sam Robbins
@samrobbins85
I installed it from the aur, and had errors, so then uninstalled it from there and installed it through pip
Fabien LOISON
@flozz
ok, so you should have the latest version
you restarted nautilus with export NAUTILUS_TERMINAL_DEBUG=true && nautilus -q && nautilus ?
Sam Robbins
@samrobbins85
Yes
