you write code on Go or on anything else?
Samuel Nelson
@nelsam
Jan 24 2017 17:23
mostly Go
I'll be doing a little bit of javascript now
and I've been writing elm for a side project
Kvaz1r
@Kvaz1r
Jan 24 2017 17:25
that's very modern. But in Elm still no first version of release.

yep, elm is early
I really like it so far, though
most of the jobs I got as a senior engineer were because I started using Go when it was at version 0.8 or something
so by the time companies started actively using it, I was already knowledgeable

Yes, I often hear that JS very inconvenient, and opportunity write on language that support fp pleases.
...makes sense to look for something new.

the two main things I like about it: if it compiles, it probably works; it's noticeably faster than javascript
it compiles down to javascript, so it may be a bit surprising that it's faster
but the type system and compilation checks allow the compiled code to make assumptions that any normal javascript program would have to protect against at runtime
so you get a side effect of very fast javascript

alright
I think there's a minor mistake in there
I also think CI probably caught it

So you are programming more than 5 years?
Samuel Nelson
@nelsam
Jan 24 2017 19:10

about 12 and a half years

I don't mind
I think my first official job as an engineer was in 2011
I was working as a database administrator, with an emphasis on writing tools to automate db admin tasks, in January 2010, though
technically not a programming job, but it involved a lot of programming

interesting. You current job is remote or office? I hear that on West remotely work is quite popular.
Samuel Nelson

remote
there is an office in New York City, but I'm not required to be there most of the time
we go there for occasional in-person get-togethers and junk
