OK, any ideas on how I could make a nextflow pipeline that would easily be switched between running docker containers on a gridgain local cluster, as well as a DNAnexus app? If I based my docker on the same base OS as the DNAnexus internal docker image, it seems I could come pretty close to having identical environments... will try it out and report back.

ideally the same pipeline should work in both envirornments, but don't forget that gridgain integration is still an experimental feature and may have problems, in particular with large dataset

yes, thanks -- our stuff is small for now, but I would like to build it so it can scale easily -- if DNAnexus is too much of a hassle, it seems I could use Elasticluster (via https://github.com/chapmanb/bcbio-nextgen-vm) and point nextflow to that

Yes, I agree.
there's @andrewcstewart that managed to use Elasticluster with Nextflow, though he wasn't particularly happy with that.
