Hi @pditommaso - any ideas about SciLifeLab/NGI-RNAseq#153 (problems accessing s3 data)?

some comments remind me of discussions like PlayStation vs Xbox ;). But it’s good that people starts to put more attention on the argument and starts evaluating the pros and cons of modern pipeline workflow systems / languages .
Main point for me is that it’s basically impossible to find or develop a thing that can fit all use cases for all the possible users. So for me the rule of thumb should be to take the one which already covers 80-90% of your use cases and join the community and send pull requests :)

@heuermh I did not open yet any issue. I was thinking to a file splitting that allows keeping order of pieces. And also a modification to splitFasta and a new splitBed

improving splitTest #473
and... splitBed #474
PS: I see that one of the topics about NF is the learning curve. If there are no more revolutions I would be happy to contribute in this

I hacked up split by records and split by bytes in my own library (heuermh/dishevelled-bio@77e8b27) for bed, gff3, fastq, interleaved fastq, and vcf; I would need to get my head around how splitFasta is implemented in Nextflow to see if a similar approach could be taken.
Then of course there is the convincing @pditommaso to accept new dependencies ;)
