Oh, was talking to one of the front-end devs at Clock and he was saying that the CMS they use, there’s nothing as powerful as it for node.js as far as he knows (he used to work for Ghost, the blogging system, so he knows his shit). Anyways, there’s talks of them possibly open-sourcing the CMS this year! That’d be awesome!

That sounds quite interesting
May take a look at it if it happens!

Yeah, there’s not a whole lot of options for node.js in this space just yet. A few, but not a lot.
Aaron Sinnott
@aaronsnig501
Jan 09 2015 10:38
Yeah, its still early days really. But, given that when it comes to Node on the web most people are using it for MEAN stacks and microservices I don't think there is much space out there for it. At least not yet.
I don't really keep up with Node though so I'm probably wrong!

Nah, you’re right.
Very good points

If you can get a really good, powerful, open-source CMS backed by a strong company out there then they could potentially have a monopoly in that space
Niall O'Brien
@niallobrien
Jan 09 2015 11:13
That’s tricky alright, there’s a few people trying it. For example. Ghost are doing quite well for themselves even though they’re just a blogging platform. There’s also KeystoneJS and Buckets. But yeah, having a company back it would be quite awesome. There’s many directions they could go from there - eg. hosting, commercial add-ons etc.

keystone looks pretty good

@niallobrien
Jan 09 2015 11:33
Indeed
I guess I’ll be in a better position to compare these once I’ve had a chance to play with Clock’s CMS.
Anyways, this isn’t the kinda shit you guys work on.

How’s the testing going @mjpwall ?
Mick WAll
@mjpwall
Jan 09 2015 11:35
I'm interested in learning node, so seeing how keystone does things will be valuable
Go the testing working, turns out my shitty broadband at home was the problem, seeting the tests to wait for connection sorted that.
Niall O'Brien
@niallobrien
Jan 09 2015 11:37
Ah for fuck sake
lol
Surely you don’t need a connection to run tests though?
Mock that shit! :)
Mick WAll
@mjpwall
Jan 09 2015 11:37
@niallobrien, ah but I'm using mongolab, one database for live one for testing.
@niallobrien, be fucking mocking in future, drove me mental!!!
Niall O'Brien
@niallobrien
Jan 09 2015 11:38
Ah, yeah - I’d just mock the db stuff and return example data. Didn’t you say your project lead doesn’t want you mocking it or something?

Jan 09 2015 11:43
In fairness, it's a good setup, we pull a few scripts, run vagrant and have docker boxes ready for, node, postgres, rabbitmq etc, ensures development is done in same environment as the production. stops the 'well it was working one my machine' problems!!

Wow, that’s fast!
I must check it out for sure
Ah but it just renders static markdown files @tjFogarty - no database
So it’s only for static sites I guess...

An open-source version of something like http://www.webhook.com/ would be really nice too. They’re using Firebase in the backend

That's what the plan was but it ends on the first night that One Direction are playing which means I won't be able to find accommodation so I won't be able to attend the last day because I'll have to come home
