How does forever handle code updates? I see there is a --watch for changes parameter that you would probably need to use (unless this is the default).
I have been using node-supervisor for development on my laptop. It also restarts the app if it crashes. (So a coding error can result in a constant loop of ending with an error message and restarting... that instantly resolves when I fix the code error.)

@bewest What evidence do you have that Nightscout heroku sites go down often? As far as I know sites haven't been down once, which is more than I can say for the old Azure site.

it's in the docs
they stop the site when it's inactive
user hits error page wondering why it's down
I am not seeing azure sites go down, with forever the two should behave the same way as long as users don't see the "your site is frozen right now" page

@bewest My cgmtest site is asleep right now, visit it and see how it handles waking up. http://cgmtest.herokuapps.com
I feel like it is a little slow to respond when it is asleep, but it doesn't give me any errors.

Really? I've never seen that.
Maybe because I have the page in cache, my browser loads the blank page and waits like an extra 15 seconds to load.
From my perspective it is not much of a downside. But, from a support perspective I could see it being annoying.

ah, hehe
it's from user perspective I'm concerned about
I see some users assume it's broke
and not think to just try again

yeah, i don't know enough about heroku.
do a lot of users pay for azure? or do they use the free tier?
Ben West
@bewest

I pay for mine cause I got sick of dealing with the caps. I think there's a mix. If I can solve a problems for 10-15$ a month, I will.
Tyler Rhodes
@trhodeos
Aug 14 2014 22:42
what are the caps?
Ben West
@bewest
Aug 14 2014 22:42
I forget, I think it's 168MB out per day
if you use websnap you'll go over
if you have more than dozen viewers, you'll go over, I think
they have a soft rolling quota
Tyler Rhodes
@trhodeos
Aug 14 2014 22:43
how often does websnap poll?
Ben West
@bewest
Aug 14 2014 22:43
so even if you go over quota, they'll allow a burst
ah, websnap is configurable
so it doesn't need to poll ever, I believe
because it runs js
also, there's a specially designed /clock.html that does not download mp3s
since websnap won't play mp3s
but no one knows to use it
Tyler Rhodes
@trhodeos
Aug 14 2014 22:44
ah, gotcha
Ben West
@bewest
Aug 14 2014 22:44
but by default websnap downloads whole page every $x minutes (15 default?)
which means they download all the mp3s and everything

@jwedding Long term I think it would be wonderful to provide a centralized hosted service. One host to rule all the Nightscouts. :)

maybe
from their POV we're already distributing
they don't make the "compile your own, DIY" distribution disctinction we were counting on

if thats the case, we should be able to put this in the app store as well, right?
(play* store)
