Not that I'm a huge java fan, but think it would be most flexible in where it can run

could say same about js

js can run everywhere Java can, but not the other way round. ;)

this is like a religious argument ;)

Ha. I don't personally have strong opinions on the language. Ideally we'll have a library of code that can be run as easily as possible on a server, inside a browser and on a mobile device. As weird as javascript is in some ways, it's super flexible in terms of runtime portability,

Yeah - im leaning the same way - was just playing with some js inside a wkwebview on ios - running thing locally like that might be interesting or we have the flexibility to run it hosted ... I like Java better sometimes but in this case the flexibility of js may be the right way to go ... I'm working to lay some prediction I've the ihawk data - first "pure" ie just glucose mechanics then work on adding process controls ie ap kind of stuff - will see if it works :)

stick all the things in js

Yes going to start moving from mathematica to js - it's kinda fun - was playing with prebolus times with my son today and showing him how big the spike is without pre

at least for android java is the only native language, running everything through a webview feels like a hack to me, but maybe there is a good way

bolus, hacked in some exercise with iob
I hear you @jasoncalabrese
at end of day may have to create it in both ...

yeah, thats what I've been thinking, but we could have a common set of tests that could be used for multiple implementations
Ben West

yeah
really want as much re-usable code and shared tests as possible

I'm kinda shocked how well js runs within wkwebview - maybe this
is the way to write one set of code for both ios and android - question - have any of you dealt with phonegap ? Can I use phone gap to say read the dexdrip on both iOS and android using the same code ?
Core stuff could be in js then use phonegap to handle hw interactions - I have no experience here which is why I'm asking the experts

I recently switched to an iPhone 6 and what I'm shocked of is that the phone gets 50% of the javascript score in benchmarks from what my core i7 macbook does
kenstack
@kenstack
Jan 11 2015 20:37
Yep
I'm on an iPhone 6 as well
Have you used phonegap ? Could i deal with bluetooth thru it ?
Sulka Haro
@sulkaharo
Jan 11 2015 20:39
Nope, no experience on phonegap, sorry
Ben West
@bewest
Jan 11 2015 20:51
not with phonegap
you can with something like jockeyjs
there are few ways to do it
one is with jockeyjs
there's another competitor to jockeyjs that also looks good, lost it atm
and then there's things like scripting 4 android (s4a) and there's a node for android out there
I tried using jockeyjs to give js access to the serial hardware
it needs a little work, but I think it's doable
we had little prototype working-ish
works on the theory that given some android api, you can "inject it" into the webkit so that js can use it

Cool thanks ! I was playing with phonegap for a camera / ocr thing for kids with food allergies - was really nice - but I don't remember bluetooth / will take a look at the link hopefully tonight if I can get my kids to bed on time

you might not be current

@kenstack what does your son think of you bolusing from your phone?
@kenstack and how does he think that will work if he blocks you from looking at cgm?
lol
oh, yeah, go ahead and dose me, but don't look at my cgm, kthx
oh read that wrong
he wants to bolus him self from his phone
I was thinking watch
phone is so.... pedestrian
phone might be needed to grab pic of meal though
was thinking grab pic of meal
drag slider for carbs
drag slider for fat
see curve
push curve around as desired
confirm/act, done
kenstack
@kenstack
Jan 11 2015 22:05
Yes exactly :) he does all his own boluses etc - think of the upside for a 15 yr old -at lunch, talking to his friends or even better - some cute girl - instead of dragging out the pump and feeling self concious (and as he says explaining for the 100th time he is diabetic) he looks like he is checking his texts and boluses - he'd pay you for this :) was one of the orig ideas behind ihawk - just gotta make it smaller or part of phone and we are there
Ben West
@bewest
Jan 11 2015 22:05
yeah, that's basically what I want
well, I want to see the curve when I'm dosing
instead of having to imagine it given a few numbers... insane
kenstack
@kenstack
Jan 11 2015 22:06
He is very good about speaking in public and telling people about type 1 - but what he really wants is to own that - meAnjng he can tell people when he wants and when he doesn't, look like everyone else
Yes... I'm on the curve thing
