Medtronic just applied for a FCC ID for new CareLink stick that operates with the 2.4 GHz frequency: http://fccid.net/number.php?fcc=OH27306&id=489948#axzz3RLvYeGSt
The manual states the device should be operated at least 1 meter distance from wifi devices and 0.3 meters from mobile phones

mobile phones are wifi devices(usually)

Hmm. Pump reported a motor fail. Medtronic says if you look at the CGM curve in the pump while dosing a bolus, it can trigger the error message even when the motor didn't actually fail.
We obviously didn't, but wondering if the remote data load could trigger this, if it coincides bolusing - the error appeared immediately following a bolus.

hmmmmmmmm!
would be good to track details of this and ask MM :-)
their carelink software avoids doing anything at same time as bolus

it's easy to detect if pump is in bolusing state

What do you mean, curve in the pump? Like the cgm display?
More reasons why basal only a good idea ? ;) (half kidding, I'm sure there's stuff for basals too)
Sulka Haro

Yes, pressing ESC to see the CGM curve during the time the pump is dosing a bolus can apparently give you a motor error message
Ben West

Feb 10 2015 19:27
would be interesting if switching between 6/12 hour views while bolusing always causes spurious motor error

@danamlewis

Yea, and yikes if so.
Ben West
@bewest
Feb 10 2015 19:28
but especially so if it's caused by a hiccup while iterating through memory at same time as moving motor
because that kind of bug would affect any "data reading"
Sulka Haro
@sulkaharo
Feb 10 2015 19:28
Sounds like adding a feature to check for the bolus state before data fetch could be a good idea
Ben West
@bewest

well, would be good to determine exact nature of issue

you thinking of trying to repro the error by querying the pump during bolusing?

that's what spare pumps are for
but also I want MM to give us the details needed for safety
there's clearly an issue here where we need to know, for safety, what the expected/designed/actual behavior is

wonder if they'll be forthcoming with info. If you can get anything out of them, that'd be awesome. The Finnish support I'm talking to doesn't know anything.

would love to be able to open like half dozen support tickets
and keep them open and cause FDA review
s/review/audit
"hey what's with all these unresolved tickets with safety issues?"

As in, to gauge what they know, I asked the FI support if I should be concerned about the "MM pump hacking I'd read online where people bolused remotely" and the support person said she'd never heard about it or couldn't find any support doc about it. They promised to ask MM US, but never came back. And I seem to have information about new MM releases before they do. :D

Underinformed support in a country with the highest amount of diabetics / capita seems a bit odd, but this is not the first US corp I've seen to exert less care on non-US markets than in the home turf.

UK was a bit better but not by much. They lost the leaking insulin reservoirs I sent in, from a batch they hadn't recalled...

I've asked similar question in US
the phone support system is not designed to give people information
it's designed to document the [lack of] liability on behalf of vendor
this might be a bit of a problem

heh, yeah, that's one of the FAQ's it appears
it quite clearly says everyone pays
at least the annual usage fee
if you are poor, your first application gets waived

I won't have access to my phone probably when I am there, but will have the Internet on occassions.

I have depression. I don't know if I will have access to the Internet at this place, but it's a better option than the other place.
Thanks
