that's weird
where did you find that?
i can't cross refernence it in independent searches
unless its a fake site or something like that

you're right. A cc254x that reconfigures its radio stack could be a very interesting device.
wonder if that works
it's already got nice sleek casing
requires proprietary debugger, but maybe it can be made to work with GoodFET?

Looks like the CC2650 is just a BLE transceiver -- needs to be used with a separate MCU, and won't handle the proprietary RF used by G4.
Argh, dyslexia -- I was looking at the CC2560 ...

Don't worry I have a rare autoimmune disease that even messes with my eyes. It can make reading hard. Like I use bookshare.org and Voice Dream Reader and that's how I read a lot
of things. Even use VoiceOver sometimes
Eric
@ecc1
May 16 2015 02:15
That has a pretty powerful ARM core as MCU, but its radio is moved into a coprocessor, and seems to only support Bluetooth and Zigbee link layers, if I'm scanning the (1500+ page!) datasheet correctly.
Ben West
@bewest
May 16 2015 02:15
yeah, hard to tell... on the other one they do call out proprietary applications as possible
oh gosh, I just looked at the prices for the eval kit for the cc2541, wow, gougers
Matthias Granberry
@mgranberry
May 16 2015 02:43
RF eval kits are almost always ridiculous from chip manufacturers
Matthias Granberry
@mgranberry
May 16 2015 02:49
@bewest the hm-11s are cc2541s BTW, and they can do the Dexcom to proprietary RF mode
Probably not much room to do both though
Ben West

I'm reading up on how to execute bash shell scripts with Python files...see: http://m.imgur.com/PbnZm41 (don't buy/get this book. This is the only useful section pretty much in the book). I should write a tutorial on this. How to execute all of this on startup on the RPi2.
Ben West
@bewest
May 16 2015 04:25
they should add one for tsa
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
May 16 2015 04:25
They should :-)
Ben West
@bewest
May 16 2015 04:25
this is already implemented in openaps
several times, actually
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
May 16 2015 04:25
Really? Well...I don't read, don't forget that!
Ben West
@bewest
May 16 2015 04:26
yeah, you can tell openaps to register an arbitrary bash/executable command as a vendor of the type "process"
so you can add a "device" which is actually a shell process/command
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
May 16 2015 04:27
Yeah but not Python scripts...remember I am a n00b to some of this dtuff
Ben West
@bewest
May 16 2015 04:27
bewest@hither:~/Documents/foo$ openaps device add node process -h
usage: openaps-device add name process [-h] [--require REQUIRE] cmd ...

process - a fake vendor to run arbitrary commands

positional arguments:
  cmd
  args

optional arguments:
  -h, --help show this help message and exit
  --require REQUIRE
bewest@hither:~/Documents/foo$
yeah, you can also add python scripts with the vendor command
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
May 16 2015 04:28
Yeah I understand that conceptually. Just don't know how to integrate all of it.
Ben West
@bewest
May 16 2015 04:29
it's kind of odd thing though, usually once inside python, it's not needed to call other shell scripts
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
May 16 2015 04:29
Like automation for running the scripts on startup will be key...
Python is powerful, I guess
Ben West
@bewest
May 16 2015 04:29
ah, yeah we were thinking of using cron for that, rather than start on boot
but configuring to start on boot is a bash thing, not python
that's easy too
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
May 16 2015 04:30
Couldn't you do both?
Starting on boot is kind of necessary...for safety and redundancy sake...I would think
Ben West
@bewest
May 16 2015 04:32
no, openaps is not designed to be a continuously running process yet
it's designed to be run on demand and then quit
so cron is great fit
cron is started automatically on boot by default
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
May 16 2015 04:33
So if you power off the pi for some reason you have to access a screen?
That's kind of a pain, no offense.
Ben West
@bewest
May 16 2015 04:33
if power is off, power is off
if power is on, cron is running openaps every 5 minutes or whatever you configure
a daemon might bee a good plugin though
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
May 16 2015 04:34
Like you would have to manually restart cron every time you powered off the pi and powered it back on?
Ben West
@bewest
May 16 2015 04:34
no
cron starts automatically on boot
by default
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
May 16 2015 04:34
Oh
Ben West
@bewest
May 16 2015 04:34
you'd have to do something special to turn it off
lots of services on linux are typically run by default
rpi actually has bunch of extra
there should be one that allows you to ssh pi@raspberrypi.local or similar
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
May 16 2015 04:35
Cause like so far everything my Pi has been configured to do doesn't have any extra configuration steps upon startup
Well I am running Ubuntu on my Pi
Ben West
@bewest
May 16 2015 04:35
what's the hostname
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
May 16 2015 04:36
Actually it's 172.20.10.2 ...about to upload an image of it
Ben West
@bewest
May 16 2015 04:36
no, that's the ip ;-)
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
May 16 2015 04:36
Tried to make a custom host name but was short on time
Ben West
@bewest
May 16 2015 04:36
what does it say when you type: hostname?
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
May 16 2015 04:37
Give me a couple of minutes to boot it up
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
May 16 2015 04:42
Couldn't find my power source and charger but my grandma had an extra one :-)
Probably left my battery and charger at the hotel...but managed tonight
Ben West
@bewest
May 16 2015 04:46
so I think you can ssh ubuntu.local
instead of your ip
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
May 16 2015 04:46
Correct
Ben West
@bewest
May 16 2015 04:48
yeah, pi@ubuntu.local
you can change the hostname to something else like this: sudo hostname apsgonewild
or is your user ubuntu
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
May 16 2015 04:50
Mine because it is Ubuntu is ubuntu@ubuntu which isn't recommended
Ben West
@bewest
May 16 2015 04:50
it's fine we can fix that too
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
May 16 2015 04:50
I need to change it but I don't want to mess around with it until I am back from my trip
Cause I don't have an HDMI cord or a USB keyboard or a laptop with me
Ben West
@bewest
May 16 2015 04:51
it's just that one command to set it up

May 16 2015 04:51
on reboot, you can ssh to ubuntu@apsgonewild or whatever
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
May 16 2015 04:51
Yeah. But I literally can't do it right now cause I am leaving my grandmas house
And no battery :(
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
May 16 2015 05:00
I will do it tomorrow. Really tired. Going to look for my battery but I think I know where I left it and it's not there...
Plus had a headache all evening, Going to take opium and go to bed.

I double checked once again. On the Intel Edison with the original image with Kernel 3.10.17. The Carelink Stick wont't run. dmesg shows: Unable to enumerate device.

maybe a bit too resource-constrained. 64mb of RAM would make it easier

May 16 2015 17:43
nice, didn't realize you could ssh to a .local address to reach the Pi.
diabeticgonewild

May 16 2015 18:24
Yeah, you definitely can. :)
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
May 16 2015 18:38
@oschumac I think Intel Edison can handle ubilinux so you can just install that but it's not intuitive. I mean I installed Ubuntu, SSH, wifi drivers, and configured wifi to connect upon boot on my M
•RPi2
Oliver Schumacher

has ubilinux another kernel. I was not able to figure it out.
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
May 16 2015 18:50
It's an OS. Let me look for a guide...
I want to get an Edison eventually but it's not high on my priorities. I can help set you up via Google Hangouts on Air when I get back from this trip...
Well I guess it's a kernel but I don't call it that

I am pretty sure the visually impaired can access #OpenAPS and develop one via a Raspberry Pi 2 using the iPhone as a hotspot via an SSH client that is Voice Over accessible called Prompt 2 and using a physical keyboard. Like it could be used to access the data on the go for both the Dexcom and the Medtronic pumps plus it can control the Medtronic pump. BTW, Voice Over on the iPhone is extremely solid and the blind tend to use the iPhone. It is a huge advancement for this population.
I am trying to recruit somebody on Twitter right now. I hope you don't mind that I tagged you @danamlewis @scottleibrand
