Anyone know of any work being done with the Tandem pump or the 530G ? I keep reading stuff about the older Medtronic pump being the only one working ... but there's an information overload right now in all my research
Toby Canning
@TC2013
Jun 09 2015 21:07
530G has bolus/basals commands disabled for remote
justinr1234
@justinr1234
Jun 09 2015 21:08
I haven't used medtronics since the older models ... can you still use carelink usb stick? Or is that replaced by the remote?
Toby Canning
@TC2013
Jun 09 2015 21:09
Carelink works to download data
Ben West
@bewest
Jun 09 2015 21:10
with medtronic you can use the carelink usb stick for just about any model to fetch data except for 640
the contour nextlink includes ability to talk to 640 apparently
Paul Andrel
@stavlor
Jun 09 2015 21:12
think the 640 moved to 2.4Ghz instead of 868/916Mhz
Ben West
@bewest
Jun 09 2015 21:13
but the contour nextlink can do it apparently
the contour nextlink has a protocol that allows embedding any other protocol
justinr1234
@justinr1234
Jun 09 2015 21:13
So the only pump that any has working in terms of issuing bolus/basal commands is the 515/522 as of today?
Paul Andrel
@stavlor
Jun 09 2015 21:13
Cause the Next Link 2.4 comes with the 640G
Ben West
@bewest
Jun 09 2015 21:13
correct, 522 is best bet
or another pump with eng build on it
justinr1234
@justinr1234
Jun 09 2015 21:14
what is "eng build"?
Ben West
@bewest
Jun 09 2015 21:14
a lot of the commands are used for testing the pump itself, part of quality control process
so when engineers are working on it, they have firmware on the pump to allow it do everything
justinr1234
@justinr1234
Jun 09 2015 21:14
right
But is there a way to get access to that?
Ben West
@bewest
Jun 09 2015 21:14
then it goes to ops, they replace the build with ops build
then it goes to prod, they put prod build on it
prod build is now missing all the control/write commands
justinr1234
@justinr1234
Jun 09 2015 21:16
ya, I have a background in EE ... just trying to figure out where to get started and what is available ... I'm trying to sift through the tons of information, github repos, google dev group, this chat, etc...
Is it possible to get access to engineering builds for any pumps? I would assume not
Ben West
@bewest
Jun 09 2015 21:16
522 is my recommendtion if you can

Ben West

Jun 09 2015 21:18
pressure was/is less overseas
I've played with several european 554's that do the control/write commands
but 522 is probably simplest

@justinr1234
Jun 09 2015 21:20
Any breakthroughs on non-medtronic pumps?
Ben West
@bewest
Jun 09 2015 21:20
dana R is workable, but overseas only
tandem is usb only, asante is usb only,
roche is interesting... not sure what to think
justinr1234
@justinr1234
Jun 09 2015 21:21
But with Tandem can you issue bolus/basal commands to it?

yeah, I missed out, working too much alone; should’ve asked you.
Ben West
@bewest
Jun 09 2015 21:31
that 6 bit thing is intense... dunno how you would get that
Pete Schwamb
@ps2
Jun 09 2015 21:33
I got through 1-9 relatively easily by changing the pump id when uploading to carelink, but couldn’t figure out the other characters I was seeing. just never occurred to me that they might send a hex representation over the air. still seems bizarre to me.
Ben West
@bewest
Jun 09 2015 21:35
I asked my father about some of the things they do
especially regarding bit rotations in the dates
he suggested it was exactly that, rotating more bits to help avoid bit rot
burn-in

Jun 09 2015 21:37
@ecc1 looking at the user manual, that's the new medtronic "connect" stick
pre-orders now
er, pre-order-intent is now
was just announced over weekend/last week
pretty sure it's remote monitoring only
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Jun 09 2015 21:45
It's monitoring only, confirmed w Andrew
Ben West
@bewest
Jun 09 2015 21:47
I think that means I can't use it :-(
is that what it means, @danamlewis ?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Jun 09 2015 22:04
Oh sorry. PWD can use it. I meant read-only style monitoring @bewest

Does Europe 554 accepts bolus commands?
Oliver Schumacher
@oschumac
Jun 09 2015 22:17
@lorelail yes it does
Emma Black
@StephenBlackWasAlreadyTaken
Jun 09 2015 22:18
@bewest @ecc1 yeah when we saw it the medtronic rep said it would not be able to forward commands through itself, they knew what @danamlewis had in mind
Oliver Schumacher
@oschumac
Jun 09 2015 22:18
The new Bayer contour 2.4 is capable to send bolus to the new medtronic pump.
Lori
@LoriLori
Jun 09 2015 22:19
seriously, how old is yours 554 ?
Bayer contour 2.4 has CC2430, so far no luck dumping FW, nor we know if this one does encryption
in theory if it does, we can put chip from contour to breakout board and be happy to send anything
Oliver Schumacher
@oschumac
Jun 09 2015 22:21
It is Holgi13's pump. As far as i know the pump is older than 4 years.
Lori
@LoriLori
Jun 09 2015 22:22
hmm, is it worth 3680E to test ? :(
Oliver Schumacher
@oschumac
Jun 09 2015 22:23
I would guess it does encryption couse it uses Bluetooth. Or am i wrong on BT ?
Lori
@LoriLori
Jun 09 2015 22:23
CC2430 is not BT
Oliver Schumacher
@oschumac
Jun 09 2015 22:23
That means the new cool medtronic has not bt on board ?
Lori
@LoriLori
Jun 09 2015 22:24
don't think so, but CC2430 is in contour, in pump there could be multi protocol chip
Oliver Schumacher
@oschumac
Jun 09 2015 22:26
But the big question would be is the 640G capable to temp basal. Only Bolus is not a goal.
Lori
@LoriLori
Jun 09 2015 22:26
AccuChek is using plain non encrypted BT chanel, but messages on chanel are encrypted :(
640G probably contour connected to PC software can change basal
whenever it needs confirmation on pump is questions
Oliver Schumacher
@oschumac
Jun 09 2015 22:28
I tried the Accu check combo. But i was not able to connect a Accu Check with any device accept Accu Check Meter with pump.
Lori
@LoriLori
Jun 09 2015 22:30
May be there is second board which does BT in combo controler, connected with few wires
and that BT board can be connected to something more handy then combo controler
but BT would need to do encryption, theory it doesn't
Oliver Schumacher
@oschumac
Jun 09 2015 22:31
Yes i thought also. But i dont have a pump to mess with. Open pump and check the Layout.
it has separate BT board with few wires
I still think BT chip doesn't do encryption, thus connecting just BT board to micro would not connect it to pump
Oliver Schumacher
@oschumac
Jun 09 2015 22:35
Okay but this is the Insight system. Not Accu Check combo.
good OLD CSR BT chip on separate board with flex wires
and this person did FW :) for combo https://www.linkedin.com/pub/kevin-j-brewer/14/888/214
Oliver Schumacher
@oschumac
Jun 09 2015 22:41
From where do you get that ? All founf with google ?
So is it possible to read the controller of the remote ?
Lori
@LoriLori
Jun 09 2015 22:49
in theory that separate BT board with flex wires is very tempting
Oliver Schumacher
@oschumac
Jun 09 2015 22:50
Yes i am totaly agree.
Lori
@LoriLori
Jun 09 2015 22:51
header for flex wire, 2$, flex wire 2$, connected to bus pirate and do replay attack, but I think they encrypt in main nec V850
Oliver Schumacher
@oschumac
Jun 09 2015 22:51
I thought about it. So need an extra meter from Roche.
Lori
@LoriLori
Jun 09 2015 22:51
or i.mx23 for insight
Meter is not for sale anywhere :(
Oliver Schumacher
@oschumac
Jun 09 2015 22:55
That is good the i.mx23 is enbedded Linux ?
Lori
@LoriLori
Jun 09 2015 22:56
could be linux or win CE, or some commercial RTOS with UI
thing is FW is stored in 56 TSOP pin package FLASH, very hard or expensive to dump, and we only get few MB binary blob of ARM code
some test points on insight looks like jtag header pattern, but who knows
Ben West
@bewest
Jun 09 2015 22:59
speaking of which where is my goodfet?
Oliver Schumacher
@oschumac
Jun 09 2015 23:01
@LorelaiL Thanks, i woud love to talk more but i have to go to bed. CU soon Oliver
