@holgi13 awesome! let us know when you get to running overnight. I think you'll be number 11 :) (@ochenmiller you're running overnight right? I think you're 10. Unless I missed someone else who's recently switched to overnights, if so let me know!)

Quick gist as a notepad for various pump models, per the Q earlier in the week, thanks @oschumac @oskarpearson & others for notes about non-US pumps. If anyone has info on other non-US models that do or don't work, let me know and I'll add here, and ultimately link back to the OpenAPS docs. http://bit.ly/1FOjsIc

Ben West
@bewest
Oct 05 2015 07:10
even recommending against g5
same problem with medtronic and reason I reached out to them
I've learned that focus is key to success
so my focus is on medtronic
one common refrain from vendors
is: "you're weird, we don't make devices for you; no one is asking for this"
but again, it's same as my car
I can open hood of my car on a whim
I never want to...
so eliminating that excuse for them is big deal to me
"people aren't asking for this, they don't know what it means..."
yeah... because you should have put it in the user manual
then people like me can provide nice tools
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Oct 05 2015 07:13
Yea. Wondering about a nice way to write this up for people to call and ask
Know there's a lot of people in Fbk who are willing to make calls
Ben West
@bewest
Oct 05 2015 07:14
yeah, I've tried highlighting political control the devices have over your life
user-manual is basically new guide on how to spend your tiem
people like nightscout....
if you like nightscout and are frustrated it doesn't work, call...
same with openaps
if you think you should have better access to your pump, please call the vendor
right now they all say I'm the only one asking for this
and it's "super-advanced" and they can't do anything special case for me
getting data-access/ownership/control to be common themes is a huge deal
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Oct 05 2015 07:17
Yea. Pondering the best way to spark people to be willing to call, and easiest way to phrase things

best message I've found so far is "diabetes is the enemy" which is Lane's
I know nate has been preaching that

working together means not inviting surprise....
putting protocol in user-manual would solve everything ;-)
protocol documentation is required as part of fda review, anyway

Is being able to suspend a pump sufficient to say it is known to work?
Chris Oattes
@cjo20
Oct 05 2015 10:00
@bewest if they think "no one is asking for it", what mechanism do they have that people that do want it can contact them and make it understood that they are asking for the same thing you are? I don't know if calls would be logged as "giving tech support, told user pump doesn't have the feature they wanted" rather than "user wants this feature added".
I don't know if there is a magic phrase that would get the attention of the right people. Maybe "bewest says 'hi'" :P
John Males
@johnmales

So what specifically should we be asking for? That want the pump to have open, documented protocols?
Peter Miller

Oct 05 2015 14:11
Very interesting conv about how to move the vendors to action. I always assumed it was just "we're only answerable to the FDA, users should talk to them" issue.
Observation from yesterday regarding meal boluses. As openaps takes over in DIA/2, this also means that a slight reduction in meal boluses is possible, and maybe advantageous to avoid post meal lows. Was able to pull this off on a pasta dinner (80+ carbs) last night by reducing bolus ~25% .
@cjo20 I think "bewest says hi" should be the new shibboleth for the openaps community!
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Oct 05 2015 14:21
@ochenmiller good to note. have you noted what happens when you don't reduce the meal bolus? does openaps successfully low-temp to avoid post-meal lows for you?
Peter Miller
@ochenmiller
Oct 05 2015 15:04
@scottleibrand, I dont' think I have a big enough sample set to answer that yet, but I'll keep you posted as we progress. I'm very interested in ways to seamlessly integrate meal boluses into this system. Thinking about a non-pump bolus wizard (perhaps on the pebble) that recommends a meal bolus with an understanding of the smarter IOB calculation from openaps-js. Per @bewest 's comments above, it could recommend a smaller bolus, then have openaps-js handle the dual wave aspect for high fat/protein/etc.
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Oct 05 2015 15:13
the idea behind the way I designed the determine-basal.js algorithm was to work better than current standard-of-care pump therapy without any changes in user behavior: you should be able to do your normal on-pump meal bolus wizard, and it should turn out at least as well (and usually better) with OpenAPS turned on as without
that's also part of the reason for max_iob, so you can't get too much IOB that the pump bolus wizard doesn't know about
Peter Miller
@ochenmiller
Oct 05 2015 17:48
@scottleibrand, that makes sense. Perhaps the historic post meal lows have been more about a carb ratio that's not quite right, or bolusing slightly after the meal when the carbs have already taken effect.

@danamlewis we are looping overnight too! Woohoo! I was kind of hoping to report with a screenshot of a beautiful cgm night, but we are still finding the sweet spot for carelink reception and other variables (like a huge over bolus before bed that turning off the basal wasn't enough for).

I believe we'll get there easily in a few weeks, lots of people (half dozen ish) in the almost there pipeline :)
@loudnate Let me know when you start working on that? Would love an app to data entry some easy bolus/easy carb increments into DIYPS/care portal of NS for day time. Mocked up the app but never got it to enter data back into system, and would love to leverage what you do there
