Question, everyone - is a max_iob of 2 universally considered a reasonable upper-bound?

i would say no, i dont agree.
Oskar Pearson
@oskarpearson
Feb 18 2016 01:25
Interesting. I've only seen references to 2, so wasn't really keen to experiment above it
How would we calculate what a reasonable value should be?
Jim Matheson
@jmatheson
Feb 18 2016 01:25
2 is a drop in the bucket for me. everyone has different sensitivity levels

Is there a mathematical breakdown about the oref0 formula somewhere? Sort of like https://gist.github.com/scottleibrand/df1019f8e12bac9030dc

i tend to look at the max temp basal calculation at http://openaps.org/open-artificial-pancreas-system-openaps-reference-design/
I dont mind butting up against that instead of having some IOB limit hit.
not even going to say what mine is set at :)
Thanks for the advice
And the link. I'll spend more time in there comparing to actual results etc

if that is the reason you are hitting up agaisnt it feels to me like it is too low.
i feel like it should be a backup cap if all else fails and things are sending you towards 0
(granted i am still a newbie and hope to get my hand slapped if reasons make sense)

For the max level, I view it as if there is a problem and too much insulin is given what is the maximum amount that I feel like I can correct with carbs or deal with otherwise. So I know if my son is sleeping I can force feed him 20 to 30 carbs but not 60+ so if I have a 1 to 10 ratio then I set my max at 2 or 3 units.

I was using 2, and never hit it, when I sent the rug to school I lowered it to 1, I've seen it hey close to the limit, but don't think I've hit it

Jason Calabrese
@jasoncalabrese
Feb 18 2016 01:50
I was worried about having too much basal iob, and then to much correction bolus getting added the meal or snack bolus since they just use the pump bolus wizard
Jim Matheson
@jmatheson
Feb 18 2016 01:51
i think i hit the limit within the first 4 hours of looping.
when it was set to 2
that is a great point
i have noticed if i get frustrated (or usually when my rig is down for some reason) and do my pre- openaps correction by hand i end up low now.

Ha! I just read the 2 for the IOB Max. My 13 year-old is 6' tall and a 160lbs. Maybe because he is growing so fast but 2 is negligible for us. He is using 90u of basal insulin a day right now

that's quite a bit of insulin, Yay hormones

I still remember setting basals of .05u an hour :) for him when he was tiny. I think we even alternated with periods of zero when he had some pancreatic functioning left.

Do I still need to install OpenAPS version 0.0.10-Dev to get the meal assist and WTF assist? Or am I ok using 0.0.10 by iteslf?
Jim Matheson
@jmatheson
Feb 18 2016 05:43
I am pretty sure they are the same. if you look at dev it is just one commit ahead of master. and that commit is simply naming the next verison (11).
i am getting some serious WTF assist right now
and if my max iob was = 2 then i would just be saying F.

Sweet, that's what I was hoping, thank you, @jmatheson that helps and also teaches me how to go catch a fish so I can eat for the rest of my life rather than just giving me a meal so I can eat for a day. :+1:
:-D What do you have your max iob set too?
Jim Matheson
@jmatheson
Feb 18 2016 05:46
a number higher than 3x my current basal
JaysonEwer
@JaysonEwer
Feb 18 2016 05:47
I started mine at 5, but that took me too low, but the reason it took me too low was because I wanted to see what it did when I didn't bolus for my food and just let it respond to my elevated BS. I was testing. I had a pretty good prolonged low. :-D
:-D
haha
I've got mine set to 3.5
Jim Matheson
@jmatheson
Feb 18 2016 05:48
does it often want to adjust higher but does not due to that cap? thats why i raised mine. mine also wants to go higher than 3x my current basal too sometimes.
JaysonEwer
@JaysonEwer
Feb 18 2016 05:49
and my highest basal is set to 2.5
yeah, it wants more than 4 at times. I may need to adjust that up some.
Ah, if we could all have graphs like @danamlewis , but she's been working with this stuff for over a year, so I'm not beating myself up. I'm stoked that my A1C is down and trending that way.

looking for some advice with bluetoothctl. I can see a the device, but when i try to pair it never gives me the option to enter a pin. Instead i just get

[bluetooth]# pair D7:2D:7C:BA:6C:1B
Attempting to pair with D7:2D:7C:BA:6C:1B
[CHG] Device D7:2D:7C:BA:6C:1B Connected: yes
Failed to pair: org.bluez.Error.AuthenticationFailed
[CHG] Device D7:2D:7C:BA:6C:1B Connected: no

I’ve searched around a bit but have not figured out the trick to get an interactive prompt so I can enter the pin before failure

mm-press-key.py, uses SERIAL env variable or --serial switch
see mm-press-key.py -h or feel free to ask for help
so first time use --init to get the pump to wake up
export SERIAL=123456 ahead of time
once you have SERIAL exported and have done an --init, you can do things like this: mm-press-key.py esc act up down
you can give as many commands as you like
you can also "tab complete" to get it to suggest the right choices of commands, although it's slow on the pi

@jmatheson in bluetoothctl type "agent on" "default-agent" then bluetoothctl will ask for PIN

@all Does anybody realized loop logging (triggered from crontab) with timestamp for each line? Would be happy for examples :wink:
Jason Calabrese
@jasoncalabrese
Feb 18 2016 15:22
I pipe all output to syslog, then have timestamps
so in the cron I have something like:
* * * * * openaps retry-loop 2>&1 | logger -t openaps-loop
there's a cd, ps check, etc in there
but by adding the 2>&1 | logger -t openaps-loop, it all lands in /var/log/messages
and I get lines like:
Feb 18 07:20:57 localhost openaps-loop: pump://JSON/mmtune/monitor/mmtune.json

related to that I adjust the log rolling some too in /etc/logrotate.d/rsyslog
...
/var/log/messages
{
        rotate 4
        daily
        size M
...
that's size 5M, for some reason the 5 isn't getting displayed here

Maybe old news to everyone, but I just found the "jq" command (in the Debian package of the same name). Lets you trivially extract fields of interest from JSON files:
$ jq .duration monitor/temp_basal.json
0

$ jq .reason enact/suggested.json
"basal_iob 2.41 > max_iob 2"

very odd, I did not have to do a warmup last night
I inserted a new sensor
popped the old one out and stuck it in pretty quickly
less than ten seconds maybe
for some reason, got readings after a few minutes
didn't notice till this morning
went to go do the restart dance, and had readings from all night
Jim Matheson
@jmatheson
Feb 18 2016 21:10
nice. will have to try to reproduce that.
with your schedule of sensor changes that means you’ll get to test it again in april right? :)

each sensor is a bit different
but, yeah, long as possible
yeah, that one went in jan 18th
