So it looks like my Edison configuration got messed up somehow (crashes shortly after boot), so I need to reflash. That's fine, but it has me wondering: yocto or ubilinux? Not to start a holy war, just curious about people's experiences. What I've been able to glean so far, it seems that

  • Bluetooth tethering is maybe easier in yocto.
  • Yocto is supported going forward - 'official' distribution, whereas ublinux may be harder to come by in the future and won't be developed more (?).
  • Ubilinux is closer to Raspbian, so easier to jump from Pi to Edison.

Anything else (or edits to above)?

@RussGG Huh, not sure why it's formatting that way. But no worries. OK, if you're getting cgm and pump data that's good. Do you still get the same error as before when doing openaps report show --cli oref0-predict/oref0.json ?

How about this: grep -5 oref0.json openaps.ini?
That should show the part of your openaps.ini that defines that report, with 5 extra lines of context around it.

Ughhh The backtics are not helping make it easier to read
Eric Jensen
@elnjensen
Sep 06 2016 00:18
That all still looks like it is in single backticks. Can you try three in a row (no spaces), then paste, then three in a row again? Ah, they may need to be on a separate line. If you're in the web interface, click the little dialog box just to the right of where you're typing to get into "compose mode" - then you can put three backticks on a single line, then newline, then paste, then three more on their own line after.
(This won't solve your openaps problems :smile: but might make it easier for others to help.)

@RussGG If you are considering starting over clean, take a look at https://github.com/scottleibrand/openaps-sh/blob/json-import/setup.sh - You need to clone some repositories and edit the script first, then it creates a complete loop for you to implement.

what I do is clone the repo on the edison/pi, checkout the dev branch, and run sudo python setup.py develop
there are some other ways

@jasoncalabrese the issue at hand actually didn't interfere with use of oref0_glucose but rather it caused issue with invoking relating report...I can confirm that both use and invoke report now work with oref0_glucose for G5.
Thanks @davidofwatkins !
Actually happy to say that I too have now contributed to project (admittedly in a very small way...but feeling just a little bit useful) thanks everyone.

There is NO battery (or power source) whatsoever on the Edison. You must power it from a LiPo or something like that.
Brandon Faloona
@bfaloona
Sep 06 2016 05:29
I'm planning to use the Sparkfun Battery Board that includes a 400mAh battery.
But I'm unsure about various power behavior with that and the Sparkfun Base Block board.
Jason Calabrese
@jasoncalabrese
Sep 06 2016 05:43
connecting to a ti stick via usb uses a lot more power, so even with a lipo, you'll probably also want a usb battery to keep it going, but the lipo should keep it powered while swapping power sources
but with the explorer board hopefully available soonish, just getting going with the edison makes sense, flashing it can be a pain at first
Brandon Faloona
@bfaloona
Sep 06 2016 05:44
Ok, great to get that validated. Thanks.
How hard is the soldering for the TI Stick?
Is the Edison flash harder than the TI Stick flash?
Jason Calabrese
@jasoncalabrese
Sep 06 2016 05:49
I'd do it in steps, get the edison kit with the intel breakout board, and the sparkfun board(s), and start with the sparkfun
but then you'll be able to swap it on to the other board later if you want
and hopefully the new explorer board when that's out

My 715 (mmol units) loop is now running manually. SVG from NS and temp basals are sent to the pump and displayed at Nightscout. I use units conversion, but notice that the bolus wizard from the pump is doing a double conversion somehow. BG entered was 3.7 mmol, which shows as 37, and is plotted as 37/18= 2.1 in Nightscout. Is this a problem I should focus on, or just cosmetics? I need to work on my cron since that fails every time it runs (monitor/clock.json) https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24731481/pump.jpg

@bfaloona I looked at your setup a bit and couldn't tell for sure if Sparkfun battery block can charge at the same time it is powering the Edison. Looked like maybe no but was just a vague mention in description and I didn't dig deeper. But maybe not an issue if you are careful about order of plugging/unplugging things. Looked like you might need to plug into battery board's USB to charge it, but would need to plug into main board USB to power the Edison. So I guess the question is whether you would need two USB connections during that time. Might be wrong - worth finding out if Sparkfun battery block has pass-through charging.
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Sep 06 2016 13:03
I believe it is pass-through. I used to always charge our sparkfun stack through the battery block, and it works fine. It's a tiny battery, though, so really only useful for keeping the Edison powered on. I eventually removed that board from the stack to save space.

@scottleibrand The pump is in mmol - low/high set as 5/6 - pump. pump-history.json converts the low/high correct to 90/108, but when I entred 5.1 in boluswizard as SVG it appeares as 51 in pump-hostory.json

Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Sep 06 2016 13:28
@christerjensen ok, so sounds like the bug is in the openaps toolkit itself, not supporting mmol conversions properly for that pump. I would check for any matching issues at https://github.com/openaps/openaps/issues and open one if you don't see one.
Christer Jensen
@christerjensen
Sep 06 2016 14:17
@scottleibrand It seems like it ignores the decimal (like multiplies bg, bg_target_high, sensitivity and bg_target_low with 10) - others like bolus_estimate is correctly displayed as 0.1. It is an old European 715 pump with 2.3 firmware - have two of them.
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Sep 06 2016 14:19
yeah, the internal MDT representation is weird like that (off by a factor of 10 instead of 18), so there are some corrections in openaps for some of the versions of pump that do that. this is apparently an additional pump model that needs to be added to the list where openaps does that

Scott, thanks but I never came across setting up the units device in the openaps visualization. Unless I was in a haze at 1am when last trying to install which could have happened.

But I hope the videos I make were useful for those needing instructions on how to flash the Edison with Ubilinux.
The install is much more solid via Windows versus UNIX/Mac or Linux. But regardless, the Ubilinux flashing process is flaky regardless of OS you use. But less flaky on Windows.

@davidkeddydb it's probably supposed to happen in one of the templates. maybe re-run those?

@scottleibrand If I only I knew which one. I will give that a go and see if I can uncover it.

could also be one of the openaps-contrib modules it requires went missing, so adding the device errored out

Lol. I am not even at the open loop yet so hopefully that isn't what happened.
@scottleibrand This is what I have within my openaps, is devices look like all I am missing: backup-loop.json get-profile.ini ns.ini raw-pump
bewest-aliases.json last_four_cgm_hours.json openaps.ini settings
calculate-iob.ini last_four_pump_hours.json oref0.ini tz.ini
cgm.ini model.json pump.ini
detect-sensitivity.ini monitor pump-session.json
determine-basal.ini nightscout raw-cgm

@scottleibrand sorry, this is what I have for devices:

units I don't have. Must have dropped out of one of the templates or something
all goes wrong when I hit: ns://JSON/shell/nightscout/recent-missing-entries.json

@davidkeddydb
Sep 06 2016 15:39
I tried the easier walkthrough method but I think either I messed up on the install or there are some items missing as I am erroring out on 2: recent-missing and on reporting raw-pump/bg-targets-raw.json with units
David

Sep 06 2016 15:47
problem I am running into is within the sending glucose data, specifically openaps use ns shell format-recent-type tz entries monitor/glucose.json | json -a dateString | wc -l
David
@davidkeddydb
Sep 06 2016 16:08
ok have units now added and that error is gone. for missing entries it is throwing the following TypeError: can't compare offset-naive and offset-aware datetimes
No JSON object could be decoded

@danamlewis part of the problem is that I was working off dev, initially and switched to ben's alias page someone (here) directed me to. But I hear ya.
@danamlewis...assuming that you'd want a PR for something like this to Master?

away from rig/computer at the moment... but in the case of thestandard template oref0 setup, would BG data automatically be pulled from NS if connection to dex receiver was lost? Assuming that data that devices NS/ CGM/etc are alls setup correctly...and that BG data was being populated to NS?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand

pretty sure that automatic failover is not present in the templates. we're trying to build that into the next (scripted) version of the setup

Hi, I'm about to dive in to OpenAPS for my son. He uses an Animas Vibe (think it's called Ping in the US, the one with Dex G4 integration). I have been able to find a Medtronic 554 w/ 2.6A and a Carelink USB stick so I have the hardware necessary for OpenAPS. However, the Medtronic connector that plugs into the infusion set which is attached to his body isn't 100% compatible with his Animas infusion sets. How are you guys doing this in practice? Do you have two infusion sets, one for each pump? Have you switched all over to the old Medtronic? Any other smart solutions that works for you?

@scottleibrand that'll be awesome. Otherwise I can try to figure out a way independently...but am sure others can come up with someting much faster than I can. I suppose I will work on it now though cuase I can still, hopefully learn it that much better.

We did the looping on a detached Medtronic for a while and manually adjusted basal rate and then went all in on the older pump. I'd be concerned about two pumps both attached and delivering insulin at the same time.

@garykidd you're welcome to look at my openaps-sh repo's setup.sh for ideas. there are lots of branch with older and newer copies of it.
@lixgbg several people (including @jasoncalabrese) have successfully used multiple different pumps at different times by disconnecting at the pump site and attaching the other pump's tubing to the same site. each pump has its own reservoir and tubing in that scenario.

@garykidd yeah, there are some conditional aliases that check the recency of the glucose.json and use the other one if it's old
I've done it several ways over time

Home from the hospital after immunomodulatory treatment. It was an all day event as usual. Now going into my cool dark room to rest for the rest of the night and crash. It causes flu like symptoms as a side effect, but for me it's pretty mild. But it sucks.

@spazholio No. I haven't tested that out yet.

If you go here: http://shawnhymel.com/585/creating-a-custom-linux-kernel-for-the-edison/

And go to the section "Or Modify Your Edison's Kernel"....there's a detailed guide how to do that there...

@lixgbg Medtronic Sure-T sets will fit the Animas Contact-Detach or the Comfort Short (the cannula part is interchangeable). Like posted above. The only problem MedT set would probably be the quick-set.
