@scottleibrand Whenever you have a moment, I’d be interested in your thoughts regarding my NS OpenAPS pill not working anymore. Nothing really changed, and it WAS working before, but no longer...

I tried to puchase the 900 MHz Explorer from HamShield. It does not allow me to buy it because of my address, so I assume they are not shipping overseas. Is there a way around that problem?
Dana Lewis

Oct 17 2016 00:46
International shipping should be fixed.. @dougtakeuti want to shoot me an email and I'll connect you to them for troubleshooting?
@Spazholio did you comment out your other setup so you're not trying to pull from it?

@danamlewis Moved it entirely away, and refreshed the repo so it’s pristine. I start NS with a cobbled-together /etc/init.d/nightscout script, and I used the same one, but it points to the new install dir.

I have a question for you guys, how did you come up with the CRON interval for the setup script? I am finding it very difficult to mimic the minute to minute temp rate changes manually, and wonder how the changes between bg readings when no carbs are on board are calculated....
Although I have to say I am so totally impressed so far
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Oct 17 2016 00:52
You shouldn't need to set temps minute to minute manually for testing, but check 5 or 30 min to see what it's been doing & the log to show what it's been calculating and why
can you clarify the second part of your Q? Asking about how the algorithm works when no carbs in play; or something about how BG delta impacts calculations?
Terri Lyman
@tatigger
Oct 17 2016 00:54
I just wondered how the algorithm can make changes to the system without the system receiving new data. If the explanation goes above arithmetic, just tell me not to worry about it and I will move on, LOL
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Oct 17 2016 00:55
no, that's a good q. It does that so if it hasn't communicated, it keeps trying to reach the pump. If you only do it every 5, and it fails, that's a long time to try again.
Terri Lyman
@tatigger
Oct 17 2016 00:59
Right, I see that. But then how does it make a change when it has connected, but there is no new data sent from the pump. I mean, the pump would still be either using the temp basal as told, using the permanent basal as set, or stopped the temp based on the timer that is set (30 minutes) and reverted back to the permanent basal. Since the timer ending is only once every 30 minutes, why does the temp basal change sometimes every minute.

Yes. I can run it closed during the day, Everything I have observed looks great for that, and that has been for a while now. Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Oct 17 2016 01:34
@Spazholio that's an "aha", more pointers to where to investigate ;)
Is there a trailing slash on your url in the new one?
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 17 2016 01:34
Well, swapping them out didn’t seem to help matters, but I agree.
No trailing slash.
Is the API that’s set in ns.ini supposed to match my $API_SECRET env var?
Or is it the other one I’m supposed to use there?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Oct 17 2016 01:38
Is it hashed? Plain text in setup script, gets hashed. Make sure you didn't hash twice.
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 17 2016 01:39
I feel like I’m in the weeds a bit here with the hashed vs. non-hashed. Especially since my non-hashed is already an MD5 of something else. Argh.
Assuming that the $API_SECRET that’s set in my rig needs to match the $API_SECRET env var set on my NS machine?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Oct 17 2016 01:43
Is it currently matching but not working?
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 17 2016 01:44
They are not matching, no. But it doesn’t appear as though my old ns.ini matched either.
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Oct 17 2016 01:47
They should be matching. I'm pretty sure of it.
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Oct 17 2016 01:48
If it's not working and they're not matching, maybe try matching them and see if they work.
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 17 2016 01:48
What command can I run to immediately test? Rather than waiting for the loop to run again?
Or should I just invoke the cgm/ns-glucose.json report?
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Oct 17 2016 01:50
I feel the opium tonight. It's nice.
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 17 2016 01:50
Ok, on the rig, the $API_SECRET variable matches the value in the ns.ini file. But nether of them match the $API_SECRET env var on my NS machine.
I upgraded NS earlier. Could this have to do with the the auth stuff that was added to it?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Oct 17 2016 01:52
Hm, maybe? If you did something to your NS and changed the secret
It should still work, but I'd try all of your rig stuff to match what's the NS secret
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 17 2016 01:53
Where does the hashed API get used? So I can keep that in mind when making changes?
David
@davidkeddydb
Oct 17 2016 01:58
@danamlewis I usually don't have to pre-bolus as I take Victoza but maybe that is changing. I ended up doing eating soon today and prebolusing a half hour prior. Still bottomed out but closer to perfect. Have about .35 showing at that point in -iob. Almost zero but need to keep dropping some of the early am basal. Thanks for the insight.
Dana Lewis

@scottleibrand I figured it out right before bed last night - I had no IP! My dhcpd does this thing where it somehow gets an invalid wlalease entry in there, and then the rig will never pull another IP address until I remove the /var/lib/dhcp/dhclient.* files entirely. I’m not sure how I was able to SSH in without an IP, but I was and that was the issue - the rig couldn’t communicate with the outside world. I need to build some checks for that into my edison_wifi code.

Finally my infusion has started.
But haha! The hospital I am at didn't block the Kodi website on their WiFi!
I'm VPNing to cover it up though!

@Spazholio IPv6 doesn't use DHCP, so it was probably working fine.

@sjolundjohn, to get connections to pick back up, I added

@tatigger I had done that at first as well. Just go into the treatments part in NS site, and remove what you manually added.

@scottleibrand I need some help with troubleshooting my wifi issues. Are you the best person, group generally? I am a bit stuck...

Issue being that the Edison works perfectly until it looses connection (either wifi goes down, such as if a fuse trips which has happened as we are getting heating going in our Stockholm apartment) or I move locations. I can't connect via ssh.

I can troubleshoot when connected via Serial, but unsure what I am looking for

To set up openaps on Edison Explorer, can I cut & paste my_openaps from my rpi2 rig? or is this too much to hope for? ;)

That isn't really OpenAPS or oref0 specific, so anyone with basic network troubleshooting skills should be able to help dig into what's going on...
David: can you just run oref0-setup on it?
David

is this the new faster way to install it? I didnt use that for my rpi2 setup.

ifconfig will show you what IP address it has, if any
dhclient will attempt to renew the IP
and there are various wpa_* tools that'd be helpful if it's not actually associating with the wifi after it comes back
John Sjolund
@sjolundjohn
Oct 17 2016 19:01
Ok - I will start with this.
1) Get it on a mobile hotspot
2) Kill connection
3) Log in on serial
4) Run those commands
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Oct 17 2016 19:01
you should try all of those now, while things are working fine, and see what it normal
so do 4) before 1) as well

OK

and then re-establish the mobile hotspot and see if it reconnects (as shown on the phone) and whether it gets a new IP when it does so

Scott Leibrand

log in as root (or sudo bash) and see what root's echo $PATH looks like
probably doesn't have games, and has more useful sbin dirs
John Sjolund

root@edison2:/home/edison# echo $PATH

I am out of my element here - need to start googling to figure out what I am doing...
My setup looks pretty close to this

Oct 17 2016 19:17
yeah, google is really good for learning how to use tools, set your PATH properly, etc.
it gets more hit or miss for higher-level stuff where you don't have a specific error message to search for
John Sjolund
@sjolundjohn
Oct 17 2016 19:18
Does the above suggest to you it is messed up?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Oct 17 2016 19:18
google for how the PATH works, and how to set it
if the various sbin directories aren't in your PATH, you can't run stuff in them without specifying the fully qualified path
when I'm running as the edison user instead of as root, I set the edison user's PATH to match root's
this is all just "how to make your way around in linux" basics that will trip you up until you figure out why it's doing what it's doing
