it sounds like DanaR is made in S Korea, sold there and in Poland... i haven't heard about other places yet.
if it was closer i might go get one now :)

@danamlewis
Oct 29 2016 00:02
They have proprietary batteries though so you'd need a few trips ;)
Darrell Wright
@beached
Oct 29 2016 00:02
@danamlewis I think one thing can can help in the safety is a written description of how the software approaches treatment and what information it bases those decisions on. One can install the software without ever knowing how it works or what it is doing.
@danamlewis regarding the doc you just linked
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Oct 29 2016 00:03
@beached which doc I just linked where?
Darrell Wright
@beached
Oct 29 2016 00:03
Sorry @scottleibrand did oops
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Oct 29 2016 00:04
Cause everything I've been linking is OpenAPS docs or OpenAPS.org and I thought we had that :smile: but was curious as to your perspective why that wasn't clear
Gotcha

@danamlewis batteries can be mail ordered but i don't know about infusion sets... anyway poland or s korea are both too far for me...
i also don't know about whether a US prescription would be enough to buy one/transport it back here

Canucks game doesn't start until 1.5 hours from now 😭. I'm not up to doing anything engaging tonight. Pretty under the weather. Fatigued, nauseated, weak, and have a lot of lower gut pain. Took downers plus Zofran ODT. Sometimes you just have to check out from reality...or you will drive yourself absolutely crazy.
Kevin Marshall
@ruess
Oct 29 2016 00:36
hmmm good question @tynbendad - of course - infusion sets are a big issue even if one can get their hands on a pump
agreed @diabeticgonewild - get some rest :)
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Oct 29 2016 00:37
@ruess Thanks. Hopefully you got my PM from like 12-24 hours ago...
But yeah, hockey is definitely my sport!

@diabeticgonewild
Oct 29 2016 00:56
I didn't even realize it was like Friday until just now. Slept most of the day cause I'm not feeling well. I'm going to try to go to sled hockey practice tomorrow morning, but still can't play until Nov. 15, as I asked. Surgery sucks. And sled hockey is a disabled sport. Like wheelchair basketball or wheelchair rugby....

hmmmm...looks like I was missing this line in my /etc/network/interfaces .....
source-directory /etc/network/interfaces.d
I still lose internet connection sometimes when switching between hotspot and home network... but complete file now looks like this...
source-directory /etc/network/interfaces.d

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

iface eth0 inet manual

allow-hotplug wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
    wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf

allow-hotplug wlan1
iface wlan1 inet manual
    wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
finally working...
and /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf .....
ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=netdev
update_config=1
country=GB

network={
        ssid="PHONEHOTSPOT"
        psk="XXXXXXXXXXXXX"

trying to remember @elnjensen tweak to keep network connection up...tried searching but having issues..anyone know off hand?
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 01:19
@garykidd Try changing wpa-conf to wpa-roam? I think? And I don’t think you need the wlan1 entry - do you have it in there for a specific reason?
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 01:20
@PieterGit I was gonna try to hook up 5v output from charger board to J21....but then I realized I should just use lipo output from charger board...its like 3.7 v with jus tthe battery connected and increases to 4.1 while charging so I think that works perfectly if you connect that to J2
Eric Jensen
@elnjensen
Oct 29 2016 01:22
@garykidd Are you on Edison? @Spazholio is right, wpa-roam is what worked for me.
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 01:22
I wasn’t sure if that works in conjunction with using manual instead of dhcp though, that’s why I was unsure. I think @scottleibrand specified that in the past (if memory serves).
Eric Jensen
@elnjensen
Oct 29 2016 01:22
I haven't been using my Edison since there's a short somewhere in my soldering so it gets really hot pretty quickly when I start it up. Haven't tried to track it down since I've been running Loop.
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 01:22
@Spazholio thanks.....will try.... the thing that stinks if I change it and then lose connectivity I have to go dig out pi to access edison via screen on pi...so hope it works....thanks.
@elnjensen hey there bud
I was bragging about how good I am at soldering and I think I did the same damn thing
@elnjensen how's loop working for you?
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild

garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 01:25
@Spazholio no reason that I know of for wlan1...but figure why mess with it.
gotta get the battery function working too @Spazholio. Do you have that report to NS too?
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 01:25
I do, yes.
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Oct 29 2016 01:26
I was stressed out cause I wasn't physically feeling well. Now I'm mellow and subdued and laughing at random/funny crap. Having Marinol/marijuana pills is awesome. Especially when it hits you like this.
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 01:26
(also, may as well go ahead and remove wlan1)
Eric Jensen
@elnjensen
Oct 29 2016 01:26
@garykidd It's working pretty well, esp. now after a few weeks. It's great to have the easy access to display to see what's going on, and no anxiety about having wifi or needing to hotspot. But there are things I miss about oref0 - as others have noted in recent conversations, the Loop algorithm is less forgiving and requires more fine-tuning of settings to get things to work well.
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 01:28
@elnjensen not too familiar with loop...looks interesting...seen conversations about porting oref0 to loop
Eric Jensen
@elnjensen
Oct 29 2016 01:29
Yes, there seems to be some work on that - just saw that there is a separate openaps/oref0 channel which I need to check out and catch up on . Not sure if there's anything I can do to help but worth a look.
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 01:30
so loop just uses BT connection bt phone and what a rileylink?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Oct 29 2016 01:30
That channel just started getting used recently for this convo - not much backlog
@tatigger on topic of easy temp target setting - have you seen the docs for putting it on pebble with IFTTt to make t even easier to do temp targets? :smile:
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 01:33
@Spazholio wondering if that wlan1 allows me to connect to two networks at same time.....I do connect via BT and wifi at times.
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 01:35
wlan is a wifi interface - wouldn’t have anything to do with BT. Should be safe.
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 01:38
OK thanks...
so for the edison battery tool...do I just... sudo make install
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 01:40
First off, how did you get it? Did you git clone the repo?
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 01:40
I actually didnt get (git) anything yet.
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 01:41
Ok, so how did you get the source for the EdisonVoltage program?
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 01:41
I didnt ...didnt do anything yet---just thinking of it....
would love alittle pointer to get me started though
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 01:47
hmmm so I forked it..is that the right first step?
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 01:47
You can do that, but it’s unnecessary unless you plan on coding it.
Click the green button, and copy the URL.
Then, on your Edison, SSH in and go to your home dir cd ~
Then type git clone <git_url_you_just_copied_when_you_clicked_the_green_button>
garykidd
@garykidd

What about just make?
(you’ll have to forgive me - I just got a phone call AND I’m fighting a stubborn low right now…)
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Oct 29 2016 02:10
Yeah lows like that suck with gastroparesis. They last for hours sometimes and don't let up.
garykidd
@garykidd

It's probably too late anyway...haha
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 02:14
Oh, I’ve been treating for the past hour. I’m also taking a little insulin at the same time because I REALLY don’t want to spike later on but it’s just stubborn. =)
And, I’m definitely aware of it. =)
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 02:15
well at least eat something good....like a chocolate riesen...UFB.
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 02:16
“A”?
Try “ALL”. Hence the problem I’m trying to avoid. =)
My self-control goes out the freaking window with a low. I don’t know how common that is, actually.
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 02:16
hmmm... dont follow sorry
ohhh..gotchya
Paul Martin
@Spazholio

Oct 29 2016 02:19
YEah, I just ate half a gluten free pizza when I was low---and I know the absorption was gonna be slow....so I backed off the initial bolus and was hoping AMA would crank up...but I'm at 247 now...doh
yikes 257 now
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Oct 29 2016 02:19
Yeah it sucks. Courtesy of gastroparesis, I ate like 300 grams of gummy bears due to a low, and I was like < 50 the whole night for like 6 hours.
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 02:19
bolus..
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 02:20
I’m fine playing fast and loose with my max basal rates and over-dosing when I do stuff like that. I’m mildly hyper-vigilant when it comes to that. =)
300? Holy hell.
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Oct 29 2016 02:20
I didn't have glucagon and I don't even have a prescription for that now. So couldn't do anything except ingesting carbohydrates
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 02:20
@garykidd Do you ever inject as well as pump?
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 02:20
nahhh
Darrell Wright
@beached
Oct 29 2016 02:20
@diabeticgonewild sometimes gummy bears are actually fructose too, so slower
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Oct 29 2016 02:20
Yeah, I had like 3 bags of those decent sized gummy bear packs.
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 02:20
mmmm gummy bears
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 02:20
I find when I’m crazy high, I divide up my dosage - 1/3 in the pump, and then 1/3 in each shoulder. Get it in the muscle to help it absorb faster.
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Oct 29 2016 02:21
I wouldn't have mattered but thanks. My GI system is really jacked up.
You have to overtreat lows with gastroparesis, or you will be low forever and ever....and still sometimes you end up being that way anyways
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 02:21
If I had a way to get a shunt into a vein where I could instantly dose insulin, I absolutely would. I despise the waiting. I know it can take a bit to get into my system, and I know that my BG might still rise as it gets into me, and it stiff drives me nuts.
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 02:22
and on the flip side rebound highs are tough to avoid sometimes.
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Oct 29 2016 02:23
That's really dangerous. Even if you know your stuff is "clean".
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 02:23
Yep. I’ fully expecting one.
What’s dangerous?
And what do you mean by “clean”?
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild

In Dr. Bernstreins Diabetes Solution, it teaches you how to do intramuscular injections...

Teaches? Jam it into a muscle, depress the plunger. =)
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Oct 29 2016 02:25
No, but you have to get the depth just right with certain syringes...that's what he's teaching.
Yeah, just don't stick it in your eye...and you will be OK!!!!
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 02:25
Oh, I love the concept of an IV dosage. I never would, but my doc says that if one were to hypothetically do that, then the levels would drop a lot quicker. That’s the only reason it’s attractive. I have no desire to spike a vein though.
Kevin Marshall
@ruess

Oct 29 2016 02:26
@Spazholio it all get abosrbed anyway---probably 20 minutes faster directly in vein is all
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 02:26
Doc said it would actually be a lot faster than that. Then again, it really is a moot point.
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 02:26
and it doesnt even get you high
Darrell Wright
@beached
Oct 29 2016 02:26
I had a blood vessel of sorts and my pump site intermingle once. Not fun. Each basal dose would drop me and then I would shut sky high because I was all out
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Oct 29 2016 02:26
Yeah, my veins are nonexistent. For my procedure I had on Monday...they couldn't access my port (which was placed due to non-existent veins...) so they somehow managed to get an IV in my foot.
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 02:27
Foot? Yowtch. I thought back of the hand sucked.
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Oct 29 2016 02:27
And I wouldn't shoot up through my port, like a junkie, cause that's pretty much guaranteed sepsis with a port, which is a central line.
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 02:27
yeah and in the eye sucks too.
different issue
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Oct 29 2016 02:27
Exactly...it was a joke. 😂
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 02:28
See, this is where having a Dexcom is a mixed blessing. I’m at 81 with a 45-degree up arrow. I know this is desired and what I want, but now I’m all nervous about going high. =)
Darrell Wright

Oct 29 2016 02:28

garykidd

Oct 29 2016 02:28
yeah I wasnt referring to insulin injections but have had a needle in the eye...intraocular injection
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Oct 29 2016 02:29
You can bolus like half the amount of the OVERAGE of carbs you ingested...and let OpenAPS take over.
Darrell Wright
@beached
Oct 29 2016 02:29
@Spazholio something like that for linux is on my list of wants. Might have to spend some time one afternoon
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 02:29
@Spazholio no luck with battery voltage--though I was ale to wire it up tonight successfully with adafruit 1000c charger...
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Oct 29 2016 02:30
I know, we have all heard of intraocular injections. I was trying to say as a joke...don't put an insulin syringe in your eye...
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 02:30
@diabeticgonewild Oh yeah, that’s not something I’m used to doing yet, so I forget it’s an option. =)
@beached I’d definitely be interested if you decide to do that.
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 02:30
Anybody notice seriously diminished range when ti stick is enclosed...even in plastic case...wasnt sure if its that or heat from charging ...or both
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 02:30
(please consider those of us that run KDE instead of Gnome if you decide to make one? Pretty please?)

@diabeticgonewild I know
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Oct 29 2016 02:31
Yeah, just do it. You won't regret it.
@garykidd that sucks.
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 02:32
got lucky with that actually
been almost 10 years now (I think)
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Oct 29 2016 02:33
That's good. I'm kind of jaded. But not directly due to T1D...more like by coincidence.
I feel more jaded this week cause i had to do some stuff at the hospital this week. But it was worth doing and I'm a lot happier and pleased. And it's kicked in earlier than expected and it's going to get even better for me.
Darrell Wright
@beached
Oct 29 2016 02:34
@Spazholio I'll try right now actually. I'll just use the pebble web service
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 02:35
Pebble web service? How would that work in practice? I would have thought you’d hook into NS directly?
(I’ve never done any OS programming - it’s been all web stuff)
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 02:35
@diabeticgonewild Awesome.
tick +2

@beached
Oct 29 2016 02:37
@Spazholio its the web service on nightscout for pebble
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 02:38
kinda bigger than I thought it might be...may step down to 2000 next rig
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 02:38
@beached Ah! Gotcha. Is there anything baked in other than the pebble.json file? Like, actual services, or just that file you can pull and parse?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Oct 29 2016 02:41
@spazholio: when you're worried about going high, you can set a low temp target (eating soon or similar) and make sure you've entered all your carbs, and oref0 will be more aggressive.
Darrell Wright
@beached
Oct 29 2016 02:41
@Spazholio urchin is pulling more but I just want to get in/out and done. so number for sure, switch units in config and url, and maybe arrows
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Oct 29 2016 02:42
Conversely you can set activity mode any time you think you're gonna end up lower than predicted.
Both of those are good ways of preventing over-reactions.
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 02:43
@scottleibrand any pointers on how to set up edison voltage... @Spazholio got me started here....
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 02:43
@scottleibrand The low was unexpected and started in the middle of a sensor session so I didn’t see it coming. I have a low temp-target, but instead of entering carbs, I just dosed insulin. I need to correct that behavior.
@garykidd What happens when you type make in the EdisonVoltage directory?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Oct 29 2016 02:44
@Spazholio you should enter them after the fact as soon as you remember, and then use NS edit mode to backdate them to when you actually ate
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 02:45
Ohhh I think I was jus tin the wrong directory
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 02:45
Ok, so if I backdate them AND gave the requisite insulin already, won’t the rig cancel those two out? Meaning, “Oh, he ate X number of carbs, but he’s already got the insulin on board to cover it so I don’t need to go all aggro”?
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 02:45
edison@bluebird:~/EdisonVoltage$ make
gcc voltage_server.c -o voltage_server
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Oct 29 2016 02:47
Yes, if everything goes to plan, it will run a neutral basal while the rise plays out.
But if your estimate or tour absorption is off, it'll intervene as needed.
And you can of course make it more or less aggro with temp targets.
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 02:48
How long does the rig’s hyper-awareness last? DIA?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Oct 29 2016 02:48
AMA is pretty powerful and forgiving. Make use of it whenever you can.
Until it sees the carbs have absorbed.
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 02:49
It’s funny, I’ve been using AMA for a LONG time, but still not using it to its full potential.

Oct 29 2016 02:49
Or eating soon boluses. ;-$
;-) that is
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 02:50
Eating soon bolues = pre-bolusing? I already make excessive use of Eating Soon mode in NS. =)
tynbendad

what is AMA? and how do you guys keep the conversations straight in here? :)
Paul Martin

Advanced Meal Assist.
And I cut my teeth on IRC/#EFnet for many years. This is nothing. =)
tynbendad
@tynbendad
Oct 29 2016 02:57
is AMA an OpenAPS feature? is there a doc for it?
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 29 2016 02:57
@Spazholio OK, so I think I got it mostly working....but how do I get actual voltage/percentage to report via command and then reprt to NS
Paul Martin
@Spazholio
Oct 29 2016 02:57
AMA is, yes.

@scottleibrand my current road block on OpenAPS w/ Explorer board is communicting with pump. I’ve got MMeowlink and MMtune installed. I was advised the correct port is /dev/spidev5.1 but I still get the following error message

SerialException: Could not configure port: (25, 'Inappropriate ioctl for device')

when I issue command $ opens use pump model

@wgs4: you are probably using /dev/mmeowlink and the udev rule. I had the same on my Edison. If you specify the direct port (e.g. /dev/ttyACM0) in pump.ini it worked for me
@garykidd : you need to power J21 on the Edison breakout board with 7V-15V in order to be able to use USB-devices (e.g. TI-stick, or Dexcom receiver). I don't think 5V is enough. It powers on, works, but the Edison seems rather unstable (frequent reboots). I will now try to power the Edison on J2 with the powerboost, and use a 9V battery on J21. See if that makes the Edison stable.

I think you're in a much better position in the US. The x22/x23s have been in use for longer. We got pushed over to x54s and 530s earlier, then the 6xx series, so the OpenAPS compatible ones are unfortunately rarer. I don't think it's a matter of where the pump was born. They're all born in Puerto Rico. And even my Medtronic gastric neurostimulator was made in Puerto Rico (btw, I got a really neat Medtronic plastic case that enclosed my neurostimulator from the surgery I had 2.5 weeks ago to replace it. Hold like my diabetes supplies in there now!!!). It's a matter of where the device is being distributed, according to countries involved and the regulatory authorities governing these countries...

@danamlewis Sorry. Edison rig. MM722, have it working before just gets stuck getting to the right mmtune, I think. Keep getting the listening .... after running openaps pump-loop
same thing on the var log as well or tty/devACM0 in use
I have had this rig looping prior and now at a stall.
I can always re-run set up but was trying to avoid if there was an easy tweak
