Jan 03 2017 00:03
@geoffro10 what part of it gets hot? does it do so quickly after you plug it in? does it matter whether the lipo is plugged in?
Aaron Michelson
@Aaybob
Jan 03 2017 00:04
but I'm still getting "Starting pump-loop: Not an openaps environment, run: openaps init"
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jan 03 2017 00:05
that sounds like your install got messed up. I would delete out the lines from your crontab and run oref0-setup again

@scottleibrand The silver rectangle thing that says "Intel Edison". The first time it had the LiPo battery and a USB portable battery plugged in. The second time just noticed that the bottom of the case it's stored in was warm. Opened the case and felt it very hot again. This time it was just the LiPo battery plugged in.

thanks @scottleibrand fixed
Why did commenting out the cron lines not work?
Now seeing first problem again:
but now orig prob back.
SerialException: Attemp to use unopen port
I trimmed the antenna to try to fix that but no change.

I've been concerned about heat dissipation in my Explorer rigs. Perhaps in cold countries it does not matter that much, but in the Brazilian Summer I get very uneasy to have a Lipo battery so close to a really hot Edison. I flashed a brand new Edison for my first rig and noticed the high temperature of the processor. Then I refurbished an old Edison, which was originally on a mini breakout board, to work on an Explorer board. It used to get just warm on the mini breakout board, but it is now really hot on the Explorer board. Has anyone observed anything similar to this?

Looking for some help getting my raspberry pi setup for openaps. Formatted sd card, downloaded rasbian Jessie with GUI, unzipped with 7zip, imaged with the Win2... app. Plug pi into hdmi monitor, and plug sd card in, red light on pi doesn't change, just stays solid, nothing happens on screen. Any tips?
Aaron Michelson
@Aaybob
Jan 03 2017 00:41
@scottleibrand that was all I could think of. It is attempting to communicate with pump, then error messages ending with using unopen port
MelanieMitschke
@MelanieMitschke
Jan 03 2017 00:42

On Nightscout, my Openaps says pump is "undefined." When I run a tail, it says "Error: Lock at ' /home/pi/myopenaps/.git/refs/heads/master.lock' could not be obtained.

Advice? (In lay people's language, please!)

Aaron Michelson
@Aaybob
Jan 03 2017 00:42
@ejoe132 which RPi is it?
The red light means it has power, thats all.
I had to be sure to plug the monitor in before the power
PieterGit
@PieterGit
Jan 03 2017 00:44

@MelanieMitschke : check if there are openaps processes (ps -ef | grep openaps). Kill those first (reboot or killall -g openaps). The quickest way to resolve this is

mv .git .git.corrupted.or.locked
git init

but that will kill your git history of the openaps dir

Aaron Michelson
@Aaybob
Jan 03 2017 00:46
@ejoe132 but on RPi3 I never got a screen that way either
ejoe132
@ejoe132
Jan 03 2017 00:46
@Aaybob its a pi3, I plugged everything in then power last. Had no response so then tried plugging in the power then the sd card and had no response as well
Aaron Michelson
@Aaybob
Jan 03 2017 00:48
@ejoe132 we'll have to figure it out. You need to get wifi working and want to use the screen keybord and mouse?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jan 03 2017 00:48
@MelanieMitschke I think there's a simpler way that what @PieterGit suggested, at least in this case
ejoe132
@ejoe132
Jan 03 2017 00:48
@Aaybob how do I set up the pi if i cant get a screen to show?
@Aaybob thats correct, trying to follow path one
Aaron Michelson
@Aaybob
Jan 03 2017 00:48
@ejoe132 that's what we will figure out.
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jan 03 2017 00:49
@MelanieMitschke go ahead and reboot first, like he suggested, if you haven't already, and then try just rm /home/pi/myopenaps/.git/refs/heads/master.lock
Aaron Michelson
@Aaybob
Jan 03 2017 00:49
@ejoe132 I started looking at that problem but then used a microSD card I had set up on an RPi2.
MelanieMitschke
@MelanieMitschke
Jan 03 2017 00:49
@PieterGit So, should I do all the commands you mentioned, or just mv .git .git.corrupted.or.locked
git init?
PieterGit
@PieterGit
Jan 03 2017 00:50
always listen to @scottleibrand first... reboot and rm /home/pi/myopenaps/.git/refs/heads/master.lock is the easiest
if that won't work , try my commands
Aaron Michelson
@Aaybob
Jan 03 2017 00:51
@ejoe132 one thing to try would be to put an early version of raspian on your microSD.

@Aaybob ok, do you have a link to somewhere that has the listing of different rasbian versions? someone else on here had posted it on here for me, cause following the walkthrough the link just opens to a download
also i believed i had a pi3 but checking amazon the pi2 and 3 look the same? How can I tell which I have
Aaron Michelson

Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jan 03 2017 00:59

MelanieMitschke
@MelanieMitschke
Jan 03 2017 01:02
@scottleibrand 😭 After the sudo command, it still says no such file or directory.
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jan 03 2017 01:03
@bschrag620 look back at what @diabeticgonewild posted yesterday about lipo polarity, and then figure out where in the docs that should be PR'd in
@MelanieMitschke that might be a good thing: the lock file is supposed to go away on its own. try the thing you tried before that gave you the lock file error?
MelanieMitschke
@MelanieMitschke
Jan 03 2017 01:08
@scottleibrand Nope- still saying it's locked.
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jan 03 2017 01:10
ok, you might have a permissions problem on your .git directory. probably should delete that entirely as @PieterGit suggested
the commands he suggested need to be run from your myopenaps directory
Aaron Michelson
@Aaybob
Jan 03 2017 01:11
@bschrag620 The red wire is closest to the label JP1, that's positive. You can see it in https://github.com/EnhancedRadioDevices/915MHzEdisonExplorer/blob/master/EdisonBlock_915MHz_fab/EdisonBlock_915MHz_bottom.png
@bschrag620 look closely at how the negative pin is connected to the ground plane and the positive pin is connected to a trace.
@bschrag620 it looks like the neg. pin is connected to the post holes, which it is and thus is connected to the chasis which is ground. Positive voltage is only positive in respect to ground.
Aaron Michelson
@Aaybob
Jan 03 2017 01:18
@bschrag620 the battery polarity I think we can safely assume is red wire positive.

Aaron Michelson
@Aaybob
Jan 03 2017 01:28
@geoffro10 @dougtakeuti it seems to be battery charging? Maybe see if a new battery cools it?
@ejoe132 what file extension does it have now?
ejoe132
@ejoe132
Jan 03 2017 01:33
@Aaybob says "xz Archive" before running it in 7zip
Aaron Michelson

Aaron Michelson
@Aaybob
Jan 03 2017 01:37
no its not the correct file, I'm trying root.tar.xz but its not downloading

@Aaybob do i want just the .zip or .zip shal or .zip torrent?
Aaron Michelson
@Aaybob
Jan 03 2017 01:43
The .zip @ejoe132 Make a directory for image files. This will be your first one. You'll want to save images as you go so you can return to that point.
@ejoe132 when you decompress and get .img you must rename it, the Win32Dis... doesn't like dashes.
ejoe132
@ejoe132
Jan 03 2017 01:46
@Aaybob haha youll have to forgive me I dont know that much about this stuff, but when you say Directory do you mean just a file to put them all in in the computer(laptop)?

yup
use "create new directory"

John Benjamin
@Bender1061
Jan 03 2017 02:37
@Aaybob I was actually going to try and reproduce as an alias what @PieterGit posted as a sh file on Dec 11 2016 10:23 which makes sense since we already are formatting the data for the pebble over nightscout already. we just need to send that data a bit differently to the connected pebble. I'm looking at everything but I don't want to mess up my primary pebble, so I just ordered a plain pebble from amazon and should be here Wed. So I'm just prepping things right now with one of my spare Edisons.

I am having difficulty setting up wireless. i need to have one location as a static IP (work) and everything else dhcp. i can do all static, or all dhcp, but am having issues with a mixed solution. I used the id_str="work" in the wpa_supplicant.config file, but am having issues with the interfaces file. i read something about wpa-roam not allowing inet static but could not find a fix. any suggestions?
Scott Leibrand

Jan 03 2017 02:53
@geoffro10 while you wait, you could go ahead and swap the 2nd edison onto the Explorer board, get it flashed and set up, and then see if it has the same problem or not...

@dougtakeuti which answer are you responding to?
@geoffro10 I've been trying to find something on forums. If it gets too hot it shuts down to prevent bricking. The intel engineers just say take it back to the store for a new one. I would try cleaning the boards and connector with alcohol and buy new ones.

Hi all, a few times a day my loop stops and doesn't set any temp basal. I'm running dev openaps with offline xdrip and Bluetooth tethered to my phone. Tailing the loop reveals raise AlreadyInUseException("%s already in use" % self.device) mmeowlink.vendors.serial_interface.AlreadyInUseException: /dev/spidev5.1 already in use any pointers as to where I might start troubleshooting ? @annettemvalle
Jan 03 2017 04:10
Render basal is set to default in NS and openaps is setting temp basals on pump but it's not showing up in NS. Is this a NS problem? I'm not sure what to fix.
TinaBerger
@TinaBerger
Jan 03 2017 04:13
If you use one alternate basal patterns will the APS still do Temps on the alternate pattern? Do you need,to change all the basals in nightscout and back again?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Jan 03 2017 04:14
@Aaybob huh?
@annettemvalle it’s not showing up in the render section, or openaps pill is not showing the enacted temps?
@TinaBerger yes it will do temps from that pattern, but it’ll take ~15 minutes max to do a full history read for openaps to get the history and the fact that the pattern has changed
Aaron Michelson
@Aaybob
Jan 03 2017 04:16
@danamlewis you're saying we need to get i(oh, I misunderstood) i thought get into the docs but uyou said get IT into the docs
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Jan 03 2017 04:16
@TinaBerger for the vis, you can change things manually in NS or not bother; it’ll just be slightly off
@Aaybob yea, just need someone to PR a note about what to do when seeing the ‘serial port in use’ stuff, since it’s coming up so much lately

it'd be so much worse if i was going forty four hundred forty four hundred and dealing
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Jan 03 2017 04:23
@annettemvalle step 1) heroku step 2) hit the checkboxes in nightscout (under settings) step 3) wait 15 minutes before worrying.
if no checkboxes to select in NS, then there’s something wrong w/ what you put in heroku, if it’s been ~10-15min+ and they’re not showing
Annette Valle
@annettemvalle
Jan 03 2017 04:36
No checkboxes so it must be heroku. I'll go back again and try to fix it. Thanks

I have to thank the person who sent the old "thick" Dexcom G4 transmitters to me a million times over. Because of her, I can easily switch over to the Dexcom G4 (as I have a G4 receiver) given I follow this tutorial and test things out: http://mrtechnicalwasntavailable.blogspot.com/2016/06/why-not-make-it-rechargeable.html?m=1

I don't trust the "waterproofing" method though. I have experienced the joy of having indwelling central lines and not being able to expose them to water before and I have a technique for preventing exposure to water. I cut a gallon size ziploc bag in half and cut the side off with the zipper, then I affix the bag to my body on 3 sides using waterproof kinesiology tape, then I pack the contraption with a gauze on a roll—but not tightly (to absorb any potential water leaks), then I seal the final (top) side with waterproof kinesiology tape.

@diabeticgonewild I haven't tried yet, I suspect you could attach a wixel to the edison over USB. Since the Explorer board doesn't make the rest of the Edison pins accessible, it rules out attaching via serial. But I'm thinking along the same lines
The other option is the xdrip advanced option in the Dev branch
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Jan 03 2017 05:57
Maybe some of the xDrip app in Java has to be ported to Python or JavaScript
Can you please provide a link to the xDrip advanced option in the Dev Branch please? It would be appreciated :D

Go through the doc where it describes setting up Bluetooth on the edison - that bit you were complaining about the order of last night :)
Once you have the Dev branch installed, xdrip is another CGM option you can specify in oref0-setup.sh
@moomoobloo I was trying to get this to work for the Bluetooth function, and ran into the same issue. It seems to die at the step where it attempts to clean up the old NS entries.

Jan 03 2017 06:03
Oh, awesome! 😊 Thank you so much!
Yeah, I still have to PR a lot of stuff. There's stuff that was added in that was useful, but it just doesn't flow or work out logistically and it can cause confusion.
jmcrawford

One more question: I'm on mobile and I have been searching on Google using "diabeticgonewild AND link AND 2016 -2015 site:Gitter.im/Nightscout/intend-to-bolus" in attempts to search for the link to the Gist (that I lost...) for installing an offline Nightscout instance on an Edison with a Sparkfun board (with an SD card). Does anyone by any chance have that link?
Yeah there's a lot to improve on the OpenAPS Docs. I guess it's good I use a screenreader for heavy reading as I can catch errors more easily than most people. I also am good at Markdown and making clean and easy to follow work and documentation. But I worked part time at Geek Squad for about 3 years, so I'm good at breaking things down in a coherent manner for almost anyone.
But I need to work on PRs and stuff....
Mitchell Slep
@moomoobloo
Jan 03 2017 06:12
@jmcrawford yeah there are multiple undefined vars and some other errors as well. It fails in both interactive and non-interactive mode. Think i'll submit a PR to roll back the change for that one file until someone can sort through all the errors.

I guess I am going to take my computer out and search. Gitter is kind of an interesting platform, in a lot of ways, and also not in good ways.
Well, I don't "need" an offline NS instance anyway, realistically, since it is intended for remote monitoring...so it's not really worth the hassle anyway! ;)
I'm also switching back to the G4 as I am tired of getting the "check BG" message on my phone (I accidentally put my receiver in the washer and it's definitely dead!). I'm such a terrible person with diabetes.

I just did my research on the rechargeable Dexcom transmitter and it's going to cost $200 in supplies. Kind of expensive. But fortunately I have 2 of the fat/big transmitters to work with and I can reuse materials.

Note that the "button cell batteries" can be of various sizes. You can find the dimensions of the battery mentioned in the tutorial.
The ONLY place that I found that sells this battery is here: http://uniquesalesonline.com/ms920se-tiny-rechargeable-battery

That's my blog, that version wasn't very successful. The battery life was rubbish. I have now used a tiny 3.6volt lipo which works much better. I've been a little slack in updating my blog....

You would want a charger like this right?
Oh, awesome!!!!
So, what battery do you use now, specifically?
Is the battery the main problem with the implementation from the blog?

Method is the same.

Thanks! :D Does it fit inside the transmitter module? Will I need to make an "extension" on the G4 transmitter casing? Also, how much battery life do you get?
I am aware that I will need to use more epoxy putty to encase the battery if it doesn't within the original parameters of the transmitter encasement: but I am just wondering...
chrisharris751
@chrisharris751

Yes lots more putty. It's winds up a fair bit bigger. I don't use it on a daily basis. Just have it around for a backup, so not sure on battery life.

Could the Dexcom circuit handle 7.4 volts? I'm kind of doubtful it could, but it depends on a lot of stuff.
Also, these sort of batteries, otherwise, would be ideal for the Dexcom G4 because of shape: only the height (and voltage) increases.

Is there any way of running separate iterations of autotune and then concatenating the results? I have been running on 7 days data, and trying to complete 5 runs, but it seems to crash after 2-2.25 complete runs. I wanted to then start from the third iteration. I have tried putting it in background and running in case I drop the ssh connection. There is plenty of disk space. Running on RPi3 (and not running OpenAPS at the same time). The results so far look good - just wanted more than 1 integration to see how it tightens up.

I'm trying to get my explorer board talking to the pump and not having much luck. i would try running phase 2 start to finish one more time, but if that doesn’t work, reflashing the edison would be a good next step unless someone else has ideas between now and then. i’ve not seen that error or seen it reported before so far.
you definitely want root for explorer board edison

@bschrag620 Im not sure what md5 or a check sum is on this, how would I check that? When looking at it on my laptop the it had a lot of files, just was checking that the kernal.img was there.
bschrag620
@bschrag620
Jan 03 2017 20:05
For example, on this download notice the sha-1 below the download links. https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/
After downloading then you would want to verify that the checksum for your file that you downloaded matches what the site says it should be. Large files can sometimes get messed up in a download and cause headaches. Hence the checksum for verifying it is correct.
What operating system are you using?

So a Google search for "Windows 10 checksum" brought me to this http://download.cnet.com/MD5-SHA-Checksum-Utility/3000-2092_4-10911445.html
Try installing that and then running it to see if the zip you downloaded has the same sha-1 as what the site says, or whichever sure you downloaded the zip from.
