Reboot seems to have resolved the issue, we're back online. Thanks for your tips. Any ideas what is going on in the background to cause this sort of thing?

@jmcrawford There is some work going on with scheduling, some sleep/waits and a change to the TI chip/stick handler code. Several people working on it. In any case, it appears that the chip is being accessed somewhat out of sequence and gets into a 'can't get there from here' mode. Fortunately, it doesn't happen consistently, and at high frequency. I believe the guru's working on it will come up with a fix, or combination of fixes that will cure this issue.

I am really struggling to set up a Heroku site. I did Azure first and that was not too bad but Heroku has been quite a challenge. Are there any good resources to help? I have tried the http://www.nightscout.info/wiki/labs/how-to-heroku but it does not seem to follow the prompts that I am receiving

The area that caused me the most problems was that I didn't (at first) scroll down page to look at variables when managing the Heroku site. You have to enter the variables and parameters there and click add for each one and then clicking the button at the top right corner which will bring up a choice to restart Dyno's - you need to click that to have your changes take effect. The other entries are fairly similar to what you used when setting up your Azure site -- and since they are similar nobody on the nightscout site has separately documented deploying to Heroku.

so with autotune. When you run it manually, and it gives the "recommendations" does that recommendation be within the 20% or would that be what it calculated without the 20% safety factor?

Quick question - my setup is running fine, temping and showing a temp in the basal icicle, etc, but the Openaps pill on my nightscout site still says 3 hours from last data
and no pump data is coming into the "Pump" pill
Any likely cause?

@danamlewis
Jan 11 2017 02:04
Is your rig online? Any changes to your NS today?
live4sw
@live4sw
Jan 11 2017 02:05
Rig is online, no changes to NS today. It was working and updating fine, then I changed my set and I think it was still working fine, then I went to a dinner where I had no internet access and so Openaps wasn't running for a few hours
and now i'm back and it's running again and updating temps, but not updating the openaps and pump pills

Sgoldberg89

Did it for 2 hours, finally logged on, and now of course it's fine...
I just looked at the tail and it seemed strange at the top

@scottleibrand yes
live4sw
@live4sw
Jan 11 2017 03:16
Hm, still having the problem of neither the pump nor openaps pill are updating, now says 4 hours since last update, but openaps continues to work and temp
Any thoughts? I searched the archives and others seemed to have this problem but not clear how they resolved it.
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jan 11 2017 03:18
@Sgoldberg89 you need to update your decocare then, or lower your max basal. Old version couldn't handle basals that high.
6.4 or higher requires deciding one more byte from the pump.

Hopefully I can get some PRs done tonight. Any "focus areas" to work on? I am currently working on "Path 3--Headless Install for Raspberry Pi" (which doesn't work or apply anymore)
I think there is an oref0 area to work on, too, right? I just don't know the details on it.

Does anyone know the size of the Phillips screwdriver needed for the Edison Hardware?
Never mind they are M2 screws!
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Jan 11 2017 03:57
I think you want a Phillips #0 screwdriver.
But I think a Phillips #1 screwdriver may work on M2 screws. Will PR that after I test it out.

Jan 11 2017 04:44
@Sgoldberg89 ok, you'll need to test setting a high temp now. Might need to disconnect the pump if you don't need the extra insulin right now.
You should be able to pause your loop cron, then edit the suggested.json to set a high temp, and then use openaps enact to try it.

Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jan 11 2017 04:47
There's something in the old manual docs with an example. At minimum just needs a json with rate and duration. Or maybe openaps use pump -h and then again on the enact / set temp command.

@Sgoldberg89 Or you could wait and do real-world testing, by entering carbs, waiting for a rise, and letting oref0 try to temp really high for them before bolusing. That might end badly though, dunno.

where would I start.....and this is to contribute a text edit.....
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Jan 11 2017 05:02
That's why I suggest backing up your edits, forking a new repo of OpenAPS/docs on a different repo name locally on your Github.com account page, then manually putting in your edits onto the new repo.
Just a second.
Aaron Michelson
@Aaybob
Jan 11 2017 05:02
then show me how to fork a new repo on a differnt repo name locally

Aaron Michelson
@Aaybob
Jan 11 2017 05:07
youtube videos with closed captioning are even better
Do you find when you start edison loop the pump has to be nearly touching close by.
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Jan 11 2017 05:08
OK I would just rename the current repo for OpenAPS/docs that you have locally.
That's the first thing I would do.
Aaron Michelson
@Aaybob
Jan 11 2017 05:08
how?
I always keep my Edison and pump within inches apart, so the above doesn't really apply. You should have "remote enabled" on your pump so that communications work efficiently.
Aaron Michelson
@Aaybob
Jan 11 2017 05:12
Do i need "add ID"
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Jan 11 2017 05:12
Zippered Flipbelt (sold on Amazon) for the win.
If GitHub.com is requiring it, then yes.
Otherwise, I really don't know. I would Google to confirm.
Aaron Michelson
@Aaybob
Jan 11 2017 05:13
No I mean on the pump when I turn on remote

What is "your old repository's clone URL" which it asks me for?
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Jan 11 2017 05:23
Then confirm that the new repo that you just named has the exact same contents as the old repo
I just confirmed the link is correct.
Just confirm that the old repo and the new repo (with the old stuff) is the same
After you are completely 100% sure that everything that you edited is in the NEW RENAMED repo, fork http://github.com/openaps/docs to your http://github.com/Aaybob/docs page (it should do that by default). It is critical that you confirm contents before doing this--you will regret it otherwise!
Aaron Michelson

alright i have a new repository named"documents" but now I'm lost. where what who how?
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild

Check to see if "documents" matches your http://github.com/openaps/docs EXACTLY
No, your http://github.com/Aaybob/docs Damn ADHD!
Check to see if your "documents" repo matches your http://github.com/Aaybob/docs page
Aaron Michelson
@Aaybob
Jan 11 2017 05:28
I don't understand why do i want them to match?
they don't match aaybob/docs
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Jan 11 2017 05:29
Because we are trying to rename the repo, with the same contents.
Then replace the OLD repo with the NEW OpenAPS/docs stuff

Jan 11 2017 05:31
i'm confused, I want to be able to make edits to docs and submit them for approval
my most recent update was not there that i put in as i was testing different ways to proceed, I'll look for my actual commits that were done to openaps, right?
My changes aren't there but I'm happy to abandon them. I want to be able to make changes going forward, my old changes were to way out of date documents
Aaron Michelson
@Aaybob
Jan 11 2017 05:36
This doc set looks more recent. How do you keep up to date? because changes keep getting incorporated in the master set?
how do i know if i have up to date documents
would you help me make an edit and then make a second edit that does not have the first edit in it?

I know questions have been asked about battery life on the Edison with a 2000mAh battery. Mine's a Pimoroni one. I've run a couple of tests over the past few days taking it from fully charged to auto-shutdown. The results? Pretty consistently 18hrs +/- 15mins run-time on the master branch of oref0 with a few additional scripts running to manage wifi connections.

So it's now unfortunately been over 12 hours since the pump or openaps pills on my NS site have updated, so pump is blank and openaps says "unknown", but the loop continues to run just fine (i've checked the logs).
Any thoughts on what I could try? Could this be a database issue? Should I update my NS site? I'm on 0.9.1
Ryan Dalisky
@rdalisky
Jan 11 2017 12:00
@andrew m the same has happened to me. First on the master branch, and then on the dev branch. I also updated nightscout, tried master and dev branches, and nothing will bring back the OpenAPS or Pump pills. It just changed all of a sudden 36 hours ago for me.

Good morning (or evening, or mid day, or I guess any time of the day depending on your part of the world), I have a question. I have looked through the threads in here many times and through the docs without finding the answer. My question is: I see 2 different Intel Edison titles (not including the ones listed for Arduino. The main 2 I see are
Intel Edison Compute Module, Dual Core Intel Atom IA-32 500MHz [Supports 4GB eMMC Storage, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi Enabled] AND
Intel Edison Compute Module IoT (Internet of Things) On-Board Antenna Single Components EDI1.SPON.AL.S The prices are much different also. Is there a difference? If yes is there a preferance? My Explorer board is supposed to ship 2nd week of this month so I am ready to purchase. Thank you in advance. James

@rdalisky I just cleared out my mongoDB (except profile) and restarted my rig but unfortunately my site is still not showing anything (just a blank nightscout with --- where time and BG would be). /pebble is still updating and my openaps loop is still running fine.
Really strange, the site has been running great for me for several months now.

I have 1 more question. Will the expolorer board with edison, and reciever run fully on a usb battery? or does it require the lipo to run part? I am looking at the Zendure A3 Portable Charger 10000mAh to run all if possible. Size is not a concern for me. I want to set this up to be fully on its own and still run at least the 18 hours.

Jan 11 2017 16:00
The number displayed on the dexcom receiver is smoothed based on the last few raw readings to prevent a single stray reading from showing up. But the tradeoff is that the reading displayed reflects some time lag. The raw is the most recent number reported by the transmitter.

@live4sw in your NS preferences tab you need to select 'show raw data always' for the number to populate - otherwise the raw data pill isn't visible.... yes, agreed, very useful.
Anyone else having difficulty getting COB to populate? APS is not picking it up - reads "undefined". Doesn't matter how it is entered - either by collection from the pump or through NS.
woodtrevor
@woodtrevor
Jan 11 2017 17:36
@JELCRAWFORD Yeah, I see the same. COB almost always says 0 in NS. In my logs it always says undefined. I have assumed that maybe it has something to do with AMA (?) which I don't have turned on yet.
live4sw
@live4sw
Jan 11 2017 17:38
@JELCRAWFORD Yep, it's been enabled ever since I first set it up long ago, but it turns out it just reappeared now. I think raw display either requires a certain number of calibrations and/or a certain amount of time on a new sensor.
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jan 11 2017 17:51
@woodtrevor yes, COB requires AMA
@live4sw should only require one calibration. But rigs won't upload raw data on master: that got added in dev
JELCRAWFORD
@JELCRAWFORD
Jan 11 2017 17:54
@live4sw - Hm.. I don't think, except when we changed to heroku and needed to re-set all our preferences, we ever see raw data disapear - though it would be unusual for us to not have our son callibrate at least 2x per day... So perhaps your suspicion about callibration needs are correct... not sure.
@scottleibrand ok. I think with the other irregularities we turned off AMA for the time being. Still need to dig a bit deeper to understand what was going on with that. Also, I don't think we've tried AMA on the Edison rig - maybe the new rig fixed it and it'll save us the debug time :)

We have the edison using wifi at home and then shifting to BT when our child is out and about/at school (he is using Iphone 5 - up-to date OS). We have to manually return it to wifi when he gets home, still working on automating that switch back to known wifi if/when available. Switch to BT when leaving is automatic, though admittedly we've had a few times where we had to go to the phone and manually tell the BT chip to connect. Mostly it seems to make the shift as soon as we are out of home wifi range....

One gotcha with USB batteries is that many of them shut off if the current draw is below some threshold. Depending on your setup, your rig might fall in that category. And it's very hard to find that threshold in the specs ahead of time.

Any specific recommendations on lithium batteries for pump. We are already tiring of battery drainage so quickly - between 1 and 2 days. When you realise that the wifi checking script you have been running doesn't work because shellscripts can't be run with ./ and needs bash

chmod +x ?

What do you mean "shellscripts can't be run with ./"?
Tim Street
@tim2000s
Jan 11 2017 22:04
My shellscripts don't run with root as user using ./
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jan 11 2017 22:04
you might need to give them execute perms with chmod +x ./scriptname.sh first
Tim Street
@tim2000s
Jan 11 2017 22:18
Ah - will give that a try
No - doesn't like it at all. chmod: cannot access ‘./root/src/edison_wifi/wifi.sh’: No such file or directory
Chris Oattes
@cjo20
Jan 11 2017 22:20
That's because the file you're trying to access isn't there
./x/y/z means run file z that's in directory x/y inside the current directory
what's the output of pwd
Tim Street
@tim2000s
Jan 11 2017 22:25
Okay - so you have to do it within the operating directory, not give it a path. I wasn't aware of that
That's fixed. Thanks guys
Chris Oattes
@cjo20
Jan 11 2017 22:26
if the file you're trying to run is /root/src/edison_wifi/wifi.sh, you'd just run /root/src/edison_wifi/wifi.sh
Tim Street
@tim2000s
Jan 11 2017 22:26
which is what i was trying to chmod.
Chris Oattes
@cjo20
Jan 11 2017 22:26
you were trying to chmod ./root/src/edison_wifi/wifi.sh
Tim Street
@tim2000s
Jan 11 2017 22:26
But I can only chmod the file from /root/src/edison_wifi/
not from /
Chris Oattes
@cjo20
Jan 11 2017 22:27
You had the starting . when you were trying to chmod
Tim Street
@tim2000s
Jan 11 2017 22:27
(That was a cut and paste from @scottleibrand ;) )
It also seems to work.
Oddly!
Chris Oattes
@cjo20
Jan 11 2017 22:27
So . means the current directory
Tim Street
@tim2000s
Jan 11 2017 22:28
Ah!
That's the bit I missed.
(Alright just didn't know)
Chris Oattes
@cjo20
Jan 11 2017 22:28
If the file you're trying to chmod, you can do chmod +x file or chmod +x ./file
To stop you executing things you didn't mean to, you can't just type file to run a program (if file is in the current directory). If you're trying to run something in the current directory, you have to do ./file

Cool. On a different note, the dev branch on Edison.
I've been tailing it this evening.

But there's also some funny stufff in there.
After this it goes into the following:

Yeah, there's something weird going on with comms at the moment. I've spent the best part of a week trying to get to the bottom of it
I've got some PRs pending for mmeowlink that might do something to fix it
Tim Street
@tim2000s
Jan 11 2017 22:46
The thing is that mmeowlink works absolutely everywhere else, including on the master version of the software on Edison, so I don't see why you need to change it to make it work here.

One more question. I assume we want the not on board antenna with edison module? Or does that matter?

The Explorer board comes with an embedded antenna for pump communications. Edison with mini breakout board=no
Scott Leibrand

a couple folks have used external antennas with the Edison and the Explorer board for increased range, but it's not necessary if you plan to wear the rig on/near the body

I am using the Explorer board so it sounds like from I am hearing is order the non on board antenna and low energy (lowhich based on the sites you provide said to only use short spread burst of using sp) plus the spot is for antenna strength so if antenna is on Explorer and not edison no need to risk heating it.
