@jaylagorio Why does cutting the trace mean you can't reflash it?
jaylagorio
@jaylagorio
Jan 30 2017 00:55
@Scorponok EnhancedRadioDevices/915MHzEdisonExplorer#14 . TL;DR: When you cut the trace the Explorer OTG port is permanently in OTG mode and can't switch back to peripheral device mode, and you can only flash in peripheral device mode.
But on the other hand you can connect a G4 receiver and have it work, so as long as you don't need to reflash you have a working loop. If you need to reflash you'll want to get another board to mount the Edison, there are plenty of different types around. You'd mount it to that board, do the reflash, and then remount it on your Explorer board.

@jaylagorio I think I count as growing on a tree, then ;) :) but yea! Seattle is great, we have a pretty decent sized group that gets to gether for meetups periodically. SF of course too has a good size community, too :)

jaylagorio
@jaylagorio
Jan 30 2017 02:00
@danamlewis That's pretty awesome sounding, yeah. BTW, I have some convenience scripts that I keep on my rig that I'd like to contribute. They're not crazy, just one-liners that I can shorten to ./pump-log or cgm-log to spit out the current activities from the log files instead of having to remember all the arguments to read the logs as they're written to. Is that something you guys would consider adding if I tried to figure out a PR of that kind?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Jan 30 2017 02:01
@jaylagorio for sure! I’ve been meaning to PR to explain how people can add a shortcut so just typing ‘l’ via the ssh app on their phone will pull up the logs…so that sounds perfect :)
John Benjamin
@Bender1061
Jan 30 2017 02:03
yeah some stuff like that would be most useful, it's not so bad when you're on the computer, but typing in the whole log thing on a phone is a pain.

Jan 30 2017 02:03
yep
jaylagorio
@jaylagorio
Jan 30 2017 02:03
Great! I'll try to make that happen in the next couple days. Does it make sense to put it directly in dev since they're independent scripts that shouldn't interfere with anything?

Hey @danamlewis , saw your question about remote SSHing. For rpi, you can use:
https://www.remot3.it/web/remot3-it-is-the-new-weaved.html
Which used to be Weaved. Free service, works great and does NOT support the Edison so the reverse SSH tunnel that @scottleibrand uses would need to be used there. I went looking for something that would support the Edison and could not find anything so DYI seems like the solution there.

Quick question for you: quick flashing red light on the Explorer board means: 1) It be broken, fool. 2) You should have protected it better. 3) I'm not sure, ask Morgan.

All the above?

Thanks!

@danamlewis, it was doing it for hours before I left a trip and could not SSH into it via direct connection but now that it has been days, everything is working fine. So maybe it was indicating being overheated? Not sure which of the two small LEDs to the right of the charging / OTG ports (but think it might have been the very right one...closest to the mounting hole). Anyway things are working again but weird at the time.
And for the Edison, I use PaperTraill (thanks to @jasoncalabrese and @bewest for the recommendation) for auditing what is going on. Wouldn't mind a service, though, to SSH into the Edison remotely, though...

Hello all. Does anyone know what might be a contributing factor for my mongo device status database becoming fouled up? Two days ago, the "Clean Mongo status database" section of the Admin Tools was reporting 1 record which I deleted and my loop began working again, however, it is currently reporting 500+ records. If I select the "Delete all documents" to clear that out, I'm thinking that will "fix" my problem, but I'm wondering what might be causing this behavior? Thanks for any suggestions of what I might be able to do resolve this longer term.
Oh one other item of note. This may be related to me moving to Heroku rather than using Azure.

Im building my firs rig and am very exited about it. I just bought an Edison board, and the explorer board to mount it on, I purchased a mini med
512 at a very cheap price with the right firmware. Last night i flashed my Edison and installed all the python scripts and open aps. This all very new to me the code, linux commands, but very eager to learn it. The step im on now is to create my static json files seeing the 512 cant send certain commands and reports. Im just stuck knowing how to approach this step. Doe i write these files from scratch withe the code thats already written? Do i use Vi or Nano? Do i have to change the numbers in them like the basal profiles to fit the basal profiles i set in my pum and the target glucose numbers, or are these just static numbers. Also were do i put these files. do i put them in a certain directory. I know these questions seem kind of silly but im starting from ground zero in my learning, the linux real is so vast to me, even were to go to learn what to do, im trying to be very specific in my questions. Any help you could give me i would greatly appreciate, ijus signed up on gitter but have a hard time knowing were to post my questions or even start a thread. Im hung up at this point with these questions if you could help me answer them i could go forward with my loop.

@peterfulvi You don't start threads, there are just different "rooms" with different topics. Here is a good place to ask questions about setting up a loop.
nano vs vi, use whatever you feel more comfortable with
Things like basal profiles and targets will need to be set to values appropriate to you
I'm not sure about which files need to be created for a 512 pump, so I'm not sure where exactly the files need to go, but "somewhere inside your openaps directory (whatever you decided to call it) is the general answer.

@scottleibrand There's no formalized way to uninstall BlueZ or anything, is there? Since I can't flash the Edison at the moment....

I checked my collection sizes in mlab and I'm below the 496 MB limit by a little bit... (like 40-50 MB away from the sandbox cap)
sorry... bad addition, I'm short of the cap by 100+ MB

@jaylagorio most definitely not. You could get a second base block or breakout board for flashing though. What city are you in? Someone might have an old one they could lend you.
@kenstack AFAIK jubilinix image has never been updated. To update it you just run the apt-get upgrade commands in the docs.

@scottleibrand any idea on the devicestatus.json not updating? I have space on mlab and my upload looks solid on the rig, my phone has signal
can ping google from my rig
ive restarted heroku a few times and that doesn't appear to do anything... I have had memory quota errors on heroku, but they don't correlate to the time devicestatus.json stopped updating, so I haven't worried about those.

I did the ns-upload and it didn't error out, just finished and returned to the prompt
I was running two rigs this morning and neither was successful for hours... so it seemed to point to a heroku issue
still no update to devicestatus.json

/@all any one in europe who has a exta explorer board to salle ? as we in germany have problem with customs holding the explorer boards and they are sending it back to hamshield
Damn regulation in germany and missing CE on the board may be the problem, they say. Some of us got the board but I suspect they may have blacklisted hamshield as radio device manufacturer, customs are holding now my 2nd (1st was send back, I suspect) for 10 days now so I guess I'll never get it.

I tried the new BT teathering instructions today and they are better! I got further... I could not successfully test it in this section: https://openaps.readthedocs.io/en/latest/docs/walkthrough/phase-4/bluetooth-tethering-edison.html#testing-to-make-sure-it-works-after-you-successfully-did-the-above

Jan 30 2017 19:28
@TomBoudr_twitter I had to connect via serial and try it several times before I got it to work if that helps
and I had another rig trying to connect to wifi, so I basically had to make sure they were all off except the one I was working on

... sheesh, all my timezones are fine.... status is being sent and at least observed on heroku, but not added in my mlab database... there's no errors or anything on the mlab site
Jarred Yaw
@jyaw
Jan 30 2017 19:41
ah, total filesize of mlab database is at 520 MB... I guess I just need to remove a bunch of my my devicestatus collections. I just did this a few months back
I think I asked this awhile back... do folks with multiple rigs end up having to move logs around on mlab regularly (every few months or so?) Maybe we need a writeup for the ideal way to backup and/or maintain a reasonably sized collections (particularly devicestatus)?

Jan 30 2017 20:14
Made it easier for me honestly... I got tired of doing the sleep 120 command and having it not work (only attempted that once)
so I just did serial and I think I did ifdown wlan0 and disabled the oref0-online lines in the crontab while testing
... ah, now thinking about it a bit more... the initial connect to the iphone was just more clear to me using it over serial. if I had been more patient, perhaps I would have been more successful, but it seemed to work better for me

root@ed210:~# sudo: /usr/local/bin/bluetoothd: command not found

Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jan 30 2017 21:38
@jyaw ifdown is temporary: oref0-online will bring wifi back up that way. The iwconfig line to shut off the radio is a better test. Obviously you can leave it down if you're on serial (or ssh'd over the OTG port to the usb0 IP)
Jarred Yaw

@scottleibrand How do you run setup for the multibluetooth version? Do you include --btmac? When I ran it earlier without I got the above issue.
Eric
@ecc1
Jan 30 2017 22:11
@tim2000s It might be in lib/. Try find /usr/local -name bluetoothd
and no need for "sudo" if you're running as root
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jan 30 2017 22:15
Currently there is no set up for Bluetooth Mac addresses. You just set it up for a single one in the normal way, and then you can edit your crontab manually to add additional.
Tim Street
@tim2000s
Jan 30 2017 22:16
Ah. That will be why it failed. I misunderstood from earlier comments that no btmac entry was needed in setup

@scottleibrand some issues arose in Germany with importing explorer boards.
They don't conform to eu import rules :/
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jan 30 2017 23:33
That sucks. Do you know what would be required to get them in?
Sandra Keßler
@SandraK82
Jan 30 2017 23:34
Yeah it is not that complicated, the manufacturer needs to have a European entity which states the conformity of the board (that's only a piece of paper with nearly no meaning) and needs to print the ce mark onto the box
The downside is, if a board is misused and identified as source of trouble (because it's operating within the ism band) the entity will be hold liable
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Jan 30 2017 23:37
@SandraK82 have you reached out to Hamshield and talked to them about it?
Sandra Keßler
@SandraK82
Jan 30 2017 23:37
This should however not that big of a problem as the board is specified as outputting 10mW which is way below the 500mW range allowed for ism bands
No I just delivered the bad news as I did the research what's going wrong, I don't need Explorer boards :)
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Jan 30 2017 23:38
Ok. Someone in Germany should make sure to talk to Hamshield if they want to resolve it.
Sandra Keßler
@SandraK82
Jan 30 2017 23:39
This should apply to whole es not only Germany as the rules are all the same, but not the parcel inspections. We have currently three or so lost boards counted in germanLOOP
And I guess 4-6 which have passed without inspection
Es== Europe. Sorry autocorrection
Scott Leibrand
