OpenAPS stopped running about 50 minutes ago. Rig is close by. I’ve tailed it to see if it is running and it doesn’t look like it is setting temp basals. When I set up Bluetooth, it seemed like it was running the installation all over again. When it asked me to name it, I’m pretty sure I used the same name. Could this be the problem?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis

possibly - check cron to make sure it didn’t create any duplicates that’s confusing it
do crontab -l
and if there are duplicates of anything, you can delete the duplicates if you can easily tell which are the right ones. if you can’t tell, you can just delete everything in the file and run setup again to re-populate it.
hilarykoch
@hilarykoch
Feb 04 2017 01:06
@danamlewis ok. so, to delete everything… just literally delete on the screen and do the setup again?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Feb 04 2017 01:06
yup
(assuming you are talking about the cron screen. you’ll do that by crontab -e to get into editing mode there)
hilarykoch

Will I have to setup Bluetooth, wireless and everything else all over again?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 04 2017 01:08
wifi is unaffected by cron, but you'll need to include the --btmac= option when you re-run oref0-setup if you want it to connect to Bluetooth when wifi is unavailable
hilarykoch
@hilarykoch
Feb 04 2017 01:09
ok. will do. :frowning:
Wait, @scottleibrand so will it walk me through the Bluetooth all over again>
?
that lets you put in all the stuff you ran before in a single command (and then add something like --btmac= if you want) so you don't have to repeat the entire interview
I think the Bluetooth docs could use some PR'ing on that front

Could not find this info here, so I contacted Intel product support who gave this information about wifi power consumption:

“Tests were ran with Breakout Board and 12V input:

LPON: ~32 mA Wi-Fi Off, ~38 mA Wi-Fi On, and ~60 mA while Pinging an IP.
SPON: ~29 mA Wi-Fi Off, ~36 mA Wi-Fi On, and ~52 mA while Pinging an IP.”

Feb 04 2017 01:38
@ELUTE “cat” is short for concatenate - but it means display the contents of the file. so if you see cat /etc/network/interfaces, you can copy/paste that on the command line to run, and it should output what’s in the file for you

One Lipo baytery 2000 mAh kept our Explorer rig working for about 12 hrs today. A bit short for what we wish for. There are 2500 mAh batteries available also but was wondering if we could use two in paralel. That would give us 4000 mAh with still a managable size I think. Anybody has tried this or is having a similar issue? Any advise?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 04 2017 02:55
putting multiple lipos in parallel has to be done very carefully, to make sure they're identical (and start in an identical charge state) so you don't overcharge one of them. I would do some reading on how to do that safely before considering it: I'm not sure what all the considerations are.
alternately, you could start working on ways to cut down on the amount of CPU time required by the loop. there are quite a few optimizations possible there...

I got to Katie's installing 1-6 where you reboot and wait. On second try it froze up. Now after restarting and unplugging everything at least 8 times my MacBook doesn't see my Edison ?

Also, what do you see on console (running screen)? You might have to unplug and plug back into the UART port, then launch screen in a new Terminal window, and then reboot the Edison. (Hold down the black button for 10 seconds to turn it off, then 2 seconds to turn back on.)
And once you get it working, please note what helped so you can PR that into the docs for the next person.

@scottleibrand the nightscout openaps pill status of "unknown" has come back to haunt us. looping is happening. Is there something I can read to help me troubleshoot the openaps communication with nightscout?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 04 2017 08:01
most people find that is due to something wrong with their devicestatus collection, but I haven't been able to figure out what it is, or what causes it. unfortunately the openaps to nightscout stuff is only really documented in the code itself, so you'd have to really dig in to explore that way. it might be more productive to do some queries against your https://yournightscouthost/api/v1/devicestatus.json API and see if you can figure out what the weird record is...

morning! not sure if anyone is up? Is there a way to delete an edison and start from scratch? Katie and I worked on my set up last night for a few hours and there seems to be an issue with my install that we can't get past (during the step 1-9 and 1-10 phase). I think that I would like to just start from scratch and redo all of the steps. Hoping someone might ave some advice about how to erase so I can start all over again.

Tim Howard
@tghoward
Feb 04 2017 11:35
Got it. No, you don't need to erase the Edison, you can just flash right over it. The key is getting those two USB connections to the explorer board so you can see what's going on in one and flash on the other
Can you be more specific for 'not letting me reboot' ?
leighkdavis
@leighkdavis
Feb 04 2017 11:37
I reset the SMC and am able to see the edison in my finder window so I think that the computer is recognizing that it is there. I did the uninstall of homebrew and reinstalled. That worked fine. Then when I go to 1-4 I am starting to get an error message. I am not sure how to do a screen shot and show you the message.
"cannot open line......." "sorry, cannot find a PTY"
those are the two errors. when I do the sudo screen /dev/tty.usbserial-* 115200

Feb 04 2017 11:45
These instructions suggest you might need your USB serial number
 Open a terminal window and type sudo screen /dev/tty.usbserial-* 115200 If necessary, replace the ‘*‘ with your Edison UART serial number, obtained using lsusb.
in addition to the other stuff you've got in your screen command.
so if that's the case, type lsusb in that same terminal window

@hilarykoch @tghoward actually the red LED in the corner will go out when charging is complete. It will go back on if it needs to top the battery off again. With some older batteries the light is basically always on. so interesting, I've been looking at ways to get the enlite cgm to upload a bit faster to nightscout. So if the cgm updates on the pump when the APS is trying to read the cgm data from the pump, it always errors out. So what I'm currently testing to to get the cgm data more than once during the pump-loop and then upload more than once during the ns-loop. Does seem to have improved the time a bit, while making the pump-loop a tiny bit slower, but it's not like the pump-loop is going to do anything with older data it already acted upon anyways, but the fact it errors during the get-bg is interesting.

@tim2000s Fring or fing? If you mean fing, it won't tell me the Bluetooth address.
Tim Street
@tim2000s
Feb 04 2017 21:07
For BT I think you need to connect from another device and scan from there

Fing doesn't work with bt

I just tried Network Utilities and it does the same as fing. Will show me my wifi info but not the IP that my phone assigned to the rig through Bluetooth.
Tim Street
@tim2000s
Feb 04 2017 21:14
In fing you can specify an external network.
Geoff Aumaugher
@geoffro10
Feb 04 2017 21:15
Right, but if I don't know where to start, I can't scan.
Tim Street
@tim2000s
Feb 04 2017 21:15
If you know the ip range your BT uses, you can use that.
Usually 192.168.x.x
Geoff Aumaugher
@geoffro10
Feb 04 2017 21:15
Let me check that.
Tim Street
@tim2000s
Feb 04 2017 21:15
So you can start at 192.168.0.0
Sandra Keßler
@SandraK82
Feb 04 2017 21:15
one below the wifi sharing
192.168.44.xxx
oh one above for bt
192.168.43.xx for wifi
Tim Street
@tim2000s
Feb 04 2017 21:16
thanks @SandraK82
Geoff Aumaugher
@geoffro10
Feb 04 2017 21:19
Fing won't find it. I have the IP and when I scan externally, it doesn't find it. ☹️
Geoff Aumaugher
@geoffro10
Feb 04 2017 21:27
I just installed an app called Ping Sweep that allowed me to scan the 192.168.44.x range and it found it. I should be able to use this in the future.

My openaps (or raspberry pi) works for about an hour, then stops. When I do a tail, it says there is an "ack error," (ack is 0 bytes). It starts working again if I restart it, but that really defeats the purpose of Openaps overnight... any suggestions?

Question, when following Katies instructions to flash edison on step 1-2 i get this warning
gnu-getopt is a keg-only and another version is linked to opt.
Use brew install --force if you want to install this version

Anyone? What's the command for a pump retune?

You mean mmeowlink retune?

Feb 04 2017 22:37
Openaps use pump mmtune ?
katie disimone
@Kdisimone
Feb 04 2017 22:43
Yes. Mmeowlink retune. @danamlewis isthe command just that?
I guess the other bigger question...how often is that set to run in cron? For default installations.
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Feb 04 2017 22:45
No that's not the command, was just making sure you were talking mmeow, not Riley. It's part of the loop and won't run if working but works on a % of failures
katie disimone
@Kdisimone
Feb 04 2017 22:47
Ok. Was watching pump log have repeated no pump comms go by for awhile. Finally saw it do a tune and it fixed things. Was wondering if there was a command I could enter if I wanted to push that along sometimes. Rather than waiting it out

Hi I have a pump which loops for openaps but I am trying to find out whether I should flash the TI stick with WW OR NA firmware. The model number ends in CAP. If anyone's using one and has flashed TI stick I'd love to know!

I can see in the docs BT tether for sharing a phones internet connection but based on @tim2000s post, it looked like you could BT connect to a G4 with Shareable to pull CGM numbers directly for offline mode (when there is no interwebs) with no wires. Is there documentation for that? Missing it somehow. Thanks!
That or pulling numbers magically from xDrip locally maybe...

Feb 04 2017 23:31
There's openxshareble, or using xdrip+ on an android phone
Openxshareble we haven't gotten stable yet, so if you make it stable and usable on a regular basis please let us know how :D

You bet...I think I'll play it safe with this rig and go straight G4 but then I see this awesome stuff: [--cgm=(G4|shareble|G4-raw|G5|MDT|xdrip)] [--bleserial=SM123456] [--blemac=FE:DC:BA:98:76:54] [--btmac=AB:CD:EF:01:23:45] [--enable='autosens meal dexusb'] [--radio_locale=(WW|US)]
Need to heal my old explorer board or get another and then I'll go xdrip!
