Question, im on third edison flash— i went today and bought another edison to try one last time as the other two are non responsive. when i type. brew install dfu-util coreutils gnu-getopt
Kellys-MacBook:~ kellyslaptop$ brew install dfu-util coreutils gnu-getopt
Warning: dfu-util-0.9 already installed
Warning: coreutils-8.26 already installed
Warning: gnu-getopt is a keg-only and another version is linked to opt.
Use brew install --force if you want to install this version
Kellys-MacBook:~ kellyslaptop$
could this gnu be what messed up the other two edisons?
Dana Lewis

shouldn’t be - you can ignore the gnu warning

also @diabeticgonewild did one of the flashing for windows videos, so she may be available to help walk you step by step, too
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Feb 08 2017 01:21
@kws1969 The Windows flashing videos start here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L57RC8POJzM&t=57s

Feb 08 2017 01:22
(the one note is that you want Jubilinux for the explorer board)
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Feb 08 2017 01:23
Yeah. That is true. Jubilinux NOT Ubilinux. But the flashing differs by 2 commands entered, and you can figure out the 2 commands needed based on what was played in the video immediately prior.
kws1969
@kws1969
Feb 08 2017 01:23
Ok ill watch it now…i started the process from the docs but when download the dfu utility and try to extract it to the jubilee it keeps saying cant open this file
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Feb 08 2017 01:24
And Jubilinux/Ubilinux aren't different with respect to operation overall. Jubilinux currently has the packages we need though.
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Feb 08 2017 01:24
:+1: @diabeticgonewild , if you could help @kws1969 with any questions on the flashing process after he watches the video, that would be great - he’s gotten stuck two times previously trying to flash via mac.
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Feb 08 2017 01:25
Yeah, I tried flashing every single way, like Windows/Unix/Linux, and in every combination imaginable, prior to making those videos.
@danamlewis Sure.
I could make a written version of the videos, after I am done editing and confirming the openaps/docs overall.
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Feb 08 2017 01:29
that would be great, the setting up edison page needs constant love so verification of what works and adding missing steps is high priority
diabeticgonewild

@danamlewis I actually meant the explorer board. Is there just one place to buy it from. This is the link that is in the documents but didnt know if anyone knew where else to get one that might be instock https://enhanced-radio-devices.myshopify.com/products/900mhz-explorer-block-pre-order

(All - just a heads up we did a patch release to master. This includes some wifi improvements (to help w/ captive portals); oref0-setup.sh will now prompt you to delete cron if you want; it prompts for explorer board during setup now so if you’re explorer board user you don’t have to remember the port name; and also set some super shortcuts (l for tailing the logs easily; and wifi to see what IP and wifi network you’re on)
semccallis
@semccallis

@danamlewis okay i just wanted to make sure and that is just the board correct not the board plus a intel edison right
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Feb 08 2017 01:42
@semccallis you can also buy an edison from them if you want; but default the explorer board does NOT come w/ an edison and you need to purchase separately from them or elsewhere

diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Feb 08 2017 02:07
It's in sequential order, in terms of importance for flashing
Especially if you are going from the beginning and don't want to attempt flashing 100000x to no avail

no space
diabeticgonewild

Oh, do you have a space in your username for your Windows account?
kws1969
@kws1969
Feb 08 2017 02:22
no
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Feb 08 2017 02:22
Because that's a no-no, and will cause this error, because it will think of the 2 "words" in the Windows username as a command and argument
Did you ever rename your Windows Username?
kws1969
@kws1969
Feb 08 2017 02:23
possibly this is an old windows

kws1969
@kws1969
Feb 08 2017 02:28
I installed it?
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Feb 08 2017 02:28
it's
"C:/Users/Kelly/Downloads/setup-x86_64.exe "
kws1969
@kws1969
Feb 08 2017 02:29
ok yes that part is right
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Feb 08 2017 02:29
You want that version here

Is this file,

setup-x86_64.exe

specifically IN your downloads folder?

Because that script won't run if it's not IN your Downloads folder. And it must be "setup-x86_64.exe" NOT "setup-x86.exe" (which you can also download from the above link)
kws1969
@kws1969
Feb 08 2017 02:31
ok dummy question
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Feb 08 2017 02:31
Go for it
kws1969
@kws1969
Feb 08 2017 02:32
i downloaded the 32 because i have win 32
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Feb 08 2017 02:32
That will cause the error.
Do you have 32 bit Windows?
kws1969
@kws1969
Feb 08 2017 02:32
but when i go to system and look it says 32bit operating on x64 based processor
would that cause this?
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Feb 08 2017 02:33
Then you should be using 32 bit
Yep, it would
kws1969
@kws1969
Feb 08 2017 02:33
i downloaded 32
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Feb 08 2017 02:33

Change the copy/paste to:

%HOMEPATH%\Downloads\setup-x86.exe -q -P autoconf,autoconf2.1,autoconf2.5,automake,automake1.15,bzip2,crypt,curl,diffutils,gcc-core,gcc-fortran,gcc-g++,git,git-completion,less,libusb1.0,libusb1.0-devel,lynx,make,nano,ncurses,openssh,perl,pkg-config,ping,python,rsync,run,screen,tree,unzip,vim,vim-common,wget,zip

All I did was change the filename after the second \

@kws1969
Feb 08 2017 02:35
what was i doing wrong in case i ever want to help somone down the road?
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Feb 08 2017 02:36
Well, you kind of have to understand code syntax
Basically

See the first "word" here (everything before the space)...

%HOMEPATH%\Downloads\setup-x86_64.exe -q -P autoconf,autoconf2.1,autoconf2.5,automake,automake1.15,bzip2,crypt,curl,diffutils,gcc-core,gcc-fortran,gcc-g++,git,git-completion,less,libusb1.0,libusb1.0-devel,lynx,make,nano,ncurses,openssh,perl,pkg-config,ping,python,rsync,run,screen,tree,unzip,vim,vim-common,wget,zip

kws1969
@kws1969
Feb 08 2017 02:36
oh ok not in this lifetime
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Feb 08 2017 02:37

I just changed the "filename" where the after the final \ in the code

%HOMEPATH%\Downloads\setup-x86_64.exe -q -P autoconf,autoconf2.1,autoconf2.5,automake,automake1.15,bzip2,crypt,curl,diffutils,gcc-core,gcc-fortran,gcc-g++,git,git-completion,less,libusb1.0,libusb1.0-devel,lynx,make,nano,ncurses,openssh,perl,pkg-config,ping,python,rsync,run,screen,tree,unzip,vim,vim-common,wget,zip

The vast majority of people run 64 bit windows now.
kws1969
@kws1969
Feb 08 2017 02:39
so you took the 64 part out
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Feb 08 2017 02:40
Yeah, because respectively those are the 2 filenames that you can download currently for cygwin
kws1969
@kws1969
Feb 08 2017 02:40
its still installing so ill start watching your next video
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Feb 08 2017 02:41

Feb 08 2017 02:42
It's not that bad with the YouTube videos. I spent like 50 or so hours probably trying to get the flashing working, up until I figured out how to flash using this method. Even previously with Windows.
Windows is definitely easiest, especially with CYGWIN.
kws1969
@kws1969
Feb 08 2017 02:49
@diabeticgonewild have you ever had edisons mess up to where they wont do anything? is there anyway to fix them…..i have a total of 3 now and if you think you can fix the other 2 ill donate one to someone??? later not now…lol
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Feb 08 2017 02:49
try doing the same flash process on the other two
once you finish this one
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Feb 08 2017 02:50
Yeah, but there's a nice Windows Flash tool that works, but you MUST flash to Yocto (which was installed on the Edison by default). It is pretty easy to reflash.
This specific intel windows flash tool ONLY works for Yocto.
kws1969
@kws1969
Feb 08 2017 02:50
Yes I tried all night last night which is why I got mad and went and bought another today
I was following the troubleshooting in the docs though
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Feb 08 2017 02:51
Did you try watching YouTube videos to try to reflash to Yocto?
kws1969
@kws1969
Feb 08 2017 02:51
No
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Feb 08 2017 02:51
via Flash Tool Lite?
kws1969
@kws1969
Feb 08 2017 02:51
I downloaded that and when I plug into them it keeps saying to plug or reboot Edison
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Feb 08 2017 02:52
Yeah, buying another Edison (although you will need another for OpenAPS) won't fix the problem. The flash process we are doing now is MUCH harder than a reflash of Yocto via Flash Tool Lite.
kws1969
@kws1969
Feb 08 2017 02:52
Like it can't see it
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Feb 08 2017 02:52
Because you have a corrupted OS due to flashing issues, which can be fixed via Flash Tool Lite.
kws1969
@kws1969
Feb 08 2017 02:52
First 2 I flashed with my Mac
This is first time flashing on my windows
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Feb 08 2017 02:53
Windows you can use Flash Tool Lite.
For Yocto ONLY
You must use CYGWIN for Ubi/Jubi
kws1969
@kws1969
Feb 08 2017 02:53
Ok. I'll try that after I get this one flashed. 👍
I think the Cygwin is almost done.

Pamela Palmer I didn't type anything after the .flash line - everything below it just appeared. Magically.

Maybe I should just try the ./flashall.sh again?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Feb 08 2017 04:57
it looks like you might have done something out of order? i think the cd command comes before ./flashall.sh, so if you’ve already done ./flashall.sh, you might have skipped something?
diabeticgonewild
@diabeticgonewild
Feb 08 2017 04:57
@kws1969 I cannot help you on everything. There is a list of commands in the openaps docs

You have to be able to troubleshoot the commands you are issuing in order to work through OpenAPS on a day to day basis
Pam Palmer
@pgpalmer
Feb 08 2017 04:58
I did the cd command. Then I did the .flash. But it said that after flashing I should have to do a command C to continue - I never got to that.

@danamlewis
Feb 08 2017 04:59
I’m not seeing that in these docs (http://openaps.readthedocs.io/en/latest/docs/walkthrough/phase-0/edison-explorer-board-Mac.html) for mac, but admittedly don’t know them as well. @Kdisimone , any tips?

one is a charging light

katie disimone
@Kdisimone

and dana just said the next half too…there are actually four lights on the board
And, useful bit of trivia…there’s a tiny power button next to the battery plug on the board. Useful for rebooting

Don't worry during Reboot

@ceben80 I'm not seeing a huge difference running in BT v wifi at 6.5 hours in. Are you?
Chris Oattes
@cjo20
Feb 08 2017 12:38
The difference in power consumption for BT vs wifi is a matter of mW
10mW difference, which works out at about 3mA
which, on the scale of using ~110mA on average, isn't that much
the main benefit of using BT over wifi is the power difference on the phone
Matthias

I've been setting up my new explorer board and want to have everything connected through bluetooth
now the question is
I was able to run the oref0-setup script yesterday to use with xdrip
I already have my ip address when the rig is connected through bluetooth
but it seems like the glucose data wasn't being send
now my question is
is it either bluetooth or wifi?
on my xdrip+ app I have the mongo and rest api turned on and configured
I just't don't know if I should always connect the rig through bluetooth only

@tim2000s but you're right Tim, now the voltage is falling rapidly 3220mV now, I think the rig will be shutdown very soon...
maybe the wifi driver must be disabled from the linux kernel having more battery life time
@tim2000s @danamlewis @scottleibrand now reached the cut-off voltage, rig is going down, only 20 min more vs. wifi with 7 hours battery life time

Actually, looking at it, the Wifi uses 15mW more, which is about 5mA
@ceben80 what was the battery capacity?
Matthias
@ceben80
Feb 08 2017 13:30
1000 mAh
as said neary 7 h with wifi, 20 min. more with bt
my goal eb rig as tiny as possible :smile:
I think you have seen the pics on twitter of my tiny eb rig :wink:
Chris Oattes
@cjo20
Feb 08 2017 13:33
Not sure how much power is left in the battery, but: 20 minutes on 7 hours is is 4.8%. Wifi uses about 5mA more than BT. 4.8% of 110mA, (which is about what the estimated power draw is), is 5mA
Matthias
@ceben80

the cron line initiated a shutdown once 3050mV is reached, so no hard shutdown will occur

Hi, this morning when trying to setup a rig I encounter a problem when running step 0: Dependencies. I wonder if I am doing something wrong or there is an issue with the script... root@edison1:~# curl -s https://raw.githubusercontent.com/openaps/docs/master/scripts/quick-packages.sh | bash -

ahhh. I think I followed all the Eddison setup steps.. I suppose I should redo all steps
which one would be the installation of sudo though?
@cjo20 I did redo apt-get install -y sudo strace tcpdump screen acpid vim python-pip locate
this time it worked... I am sure I ran it the first time, maybe I am getting crazy now...
thanks

When using Offline mode, how do you handle the things you'd normally use CarePortal for (carb correction, eating soon)? Getting ready to try it out on a flight on Friday, want to have the bases covered
Matthias
@ceben80
Feb 08 2017 17:09
@jmcrawford that's the question, as long the loop relies on nightscout....Would also interest me
in case of loop monitoring I ssh to the rig and run several catto the relevant json files....but temp target and further settings, I don't know how to specify in case of no internet
peterfulvi

@tim2000s back again to the IP stuff....
e.g. my smartphone has 192.168.44.1and the bt edi interface 192.168.44.169
so both are running in the same IP network, so far so good, but the question to me is why the hostname resolution which is made by a broadcast doesn't work when using the hostname (to ssh from the handy) :question:
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Feb 08 2017 18:28
@danimaniac if you have questions about explorer board and type of shipping, contact ERD to discuss.
@jmcrawford the easy offline carb entry is to put carbs in on the pump
Temp targets is harder, but you can also just do a small bolus manually an hour before the meal and achieve a similar effect
Matthias
@ceben80
Feb 08 2017 18:30
@danamlewis but temp target for activity e.g. the pump target needs to be change in offline mode, right?
Tim Street

@ceben80 There's no DNS service within Android, or rather what's there doesn't work properly. With iPhone you get Bonjour which does the job.
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Feb 08 2017 18:34
@ceben80 yes. Although eating soon temp target is just a way to increase insulin activity before meal, so can be done via a small manual bolus as well. That's how I did it for a year before we closed the loop
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 08 2017 18:36
@ceben80 for offline activity mode, you can change the targets in bolus wizard settings, and then change them back when you're done. or use basal patterns instead/too.
@jmcrawford for offline carb correction entry, you can use the pump bolus wizard and put in a minimum-sized bolus (0.1U for 522 or 0.025U for 523)

Thanks for the offline tips. The oref0-setup process for both xdrip and Pancreabble worked pretty well (haven't tested pancreabble yet, but everything looks to be in place). One thing that I noticed, a lot of options have been added to oref0-setup.sh as cmd switches, but many of them don't show up in oref0-runagain.sh. Is that by design, or just not done yet?

It's included in the newest version for any advanced options you do in the new setup script to be added to runagain.sh. http://openaps.readthedocs.io/en/latest/docs/walkthrough/phase-2/update-your-rig.html (so update, run the setup script normally, then in future all your additions should be stored in runagain.sh. Hi everyone...I just started my loop last night and so far it's running great! (edison on explorer board) I am getting an error when trying to set up the Bluetooth tethering and was hoping to get some help. I'm at the step after I've killed the bluetooth services. I enter the command to start it back up and get the following: root@Panc2:~# sudo /usr/local/bin/bluetoothd --experimental &
1 32430
root@Panc2:~# D-Bus setup failed: Name already in use
I went back and did the sudo killall bluetoothd a few times to confirm it really did shut down first and i do get the bluetoothd: no process found message as described

do you understand the way these aliases fit together? take a look at the line in your crontab -l that runs openaps pump-loop - you can run that manually (with a killall), and if it's failing the same way, do an openaps alias show pump-loop to see what all it does, and then run those aliases to see which one is causing the failure, and then drill down further from there
that is the general troubleshooting method for any sort of recurring pump-loop.log error

wait for it to set the first temp before it’ll fill enacted and suggested
may take up to 15 minutes, so be patient since this is your first time running it and it has to pull in a lot of data

Is there a possibility that the setup script failed or should I enter some commands since this is the first time that I try to loop on this new SD card? To be honest I am not so sure that the setup script worked fine because the serial number of the pump was missing in the pump.ini and cgm.ini (so I added them manually).

you must not have enabled cron. so you should try to re-run the script again and make sure to say Y to cron

yeah, I will re-run the script and see if that solves the problem. Thanks.

@danamlewis I just re-ran the script but get a message about 'couldn't make bluez'. What does that mean? (I remember I got that message also the first time I ran the script).

netmask 255.255.255.0

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp

# For WPA
#wpa-ssid Emutex
#wpa-psk passphrase
# For WEP
#wireless-essid Emutex
