@peterfulvi Which case did you send to the printer? I think I will go with a tic tac case until I settle on a 3d printed case.

@thebookins I really like your case so far. Especially the bosses to secure the board. You must have some mechanical engineering or repair experience if you refer to them as bosses? When designing my case I am overly worried about venting and avoiding sharp edges. I wonder if your current design has sufficient venting capaciity? My revised case design is open for critique and can be found here. I adjusted the size to accommodate actual components and added a separation to form two compartments. I have yet to adjust the location of access holes, etc. I am also struggling to design a lid at this point. https://github.com/danimaniac/OpenAPS-Explorer-Board-Edison-vented-case

@irunemur Thanks for the help so far!! Please take a look at my revised case and let me know your thoughts on designing a cap.

That's interesting. I am going to go the opposite way and make a case that is water tight but with Qi charging.

@beached Talk to @tim2000s and a few others before installing the QI charger. They have some experience with heat issues that may be multiplied with a watertight case.

@danimaniac does your case have space for a QI charger. I have it all in a tic tack case. I just sent your original one with the clip for now. I look forward to the new one maybee you can inigrate your curve design with the platform theboolins has

@danimaniac I was thinking a 3 chamber case. Separate the pad from the battery. I am waiting for my 3d printer to arrive though

Feb 17 2017 01:33
@peterfulvi I can not take any credit for that one...the one with the belt clip is the Perceptus case by Gustavo. https://github.com/Perceptus/explorer_board_case_2 I have approx 1mm space between the battery and the side of the case, but I have no intention of including a charger.

@Scorponok @peterfulvi My revisions today include the platform that separates the battery from the other components. I also included mock components. I still have to adjust access holes for ports, etc...but you can see it here: https://github.com/danimaniac/OpenAPS-Explorer-Board-Edison-vented-case/blob/master/OpenAPS%20Explorer%20Board%20Edison%20Rig%20Case.stl

Heroku question....has anyone done any OpenAPS code optimizations for heroku errors accumulating memory use problems? Seems as though when rig has issues, the dyno gets a bit of a catch22 and the heroku problem grows. A couple people today on $7 paid accounts had problems related to hitting memory caps when rig was having problems.

@danimaniac I'm not a mechanical engineer but I work with lots of them! Yes venting is an issue, not sure how much to allow for. I have put the vents directly above the Edison heat sink, so I guess we can just see how it goes. I'll have a look at your design when I get to a computer. Once we settle on a design it would be great to do a group build and organise a mail out.

@Kdisimone not really answering your question but the memory cap is the same on free as it is on $7, the only advantage that the $7 version has for us is seeing the metrics.

@hilarykoch
Feb 17 2017 03:19
I've been having the problem @Kdisimone is describing. Tonight, I switched from Hobby to free and it seemed to fix the problem, though I think it is a temporary fix.
Matt Walker
@walker0
Feb 17 2017 03:25
Thats probably just the website restarting that has fixed it temporarily. What does your memory usage look like and is the failure associated with openaps hanging?
katie disimone
@Kdisimone
Feb 17 2017 03:29
Yes...associated with rig failing.

Matt Walker

OpenAPS.

Feb 17 2017 03:32
Hold on. Let me get to computer and I can upload photo.
Heroku Metrics.jpg
@walker0 My NS site went down and said “application error” second time this week. But I could tail OpenAPS to make sure it was still running. So OpenAPS failed, and then started up again, but NS wouldn’t play along.
Matt Walker
@walker0
Feb 17 2017 03:36
Ok, when on that graph did the rig fail?
hilarykoch
@hilarykoch
Feb 17 2017 03:38
So to me, the times look off on the graph. I took at screen shot when I was having the problem (7:30 p.m. EST) but the graph looks like it’s hours in the future.
Matt Walker
@walker0
Feb 17 2017 03:39
Graph is probably UTC
What is your timezone?

Screen Shot 2017-02-16 at 7.53.26 PM.png
And I took this one, too.
I downgraded from a Hobby Dynos and NS was back up within minutes, but of course no longer have metrics.
@walker0 Again, working for now, but the two problems are clearly connected.
Matt Walker
@walker0
Feb 17 2017 03:43
It probably would have come back up just by restarting the dyno. It usually solves memory errors but it may only solve them temporarily. I have seen some similar memory errors in heroku when I had duplicate carb entries so there is clearly something that is being uploaded that isn't happy.
How many hours had the openaps rig been down for before the screenshot?
hilarykoch
@hilarykoch
Feb 17 2017 03:44
Maybe an hour
How do you restart the dyne?
DYNO
damn autocorrect
@walker0 I feel like I haven’t ever had any big NS issues, so other than configuring settings, I haven’t needed to do anything, so feel like a fish out of water.
And I say the rig was down an hour, it very likely wasn’t. It just took me a while to think to “tail” it so I could verify it was working. So actually, it was working when the pics were taken.
Matt Walker
@walker0
Feb 17 2017 03:50
If the rig was only down an hour then it seems like the nightscout issue is something that is causing memory to rise steadily even when the rig is working properly. Is your openaps rig dependent on pulling BG from nightscout?
hilarykoch
@hilarykoch
Feb 17 2017 03:51
Yes. (I think, right?) It isn’t hooked up the his G4 receiver, so it pulls from NS, right?
Matt Walker
@walker0
Feb 17 2017 03:53
Yes it pulls from nightscout then. I think it may be then that your nightscout failed which caused your rig to fail and not the other way around.
Can you check your treatments in nightscout to check that all the entries are sane, no duplicated carb entires etc.
Darrell Wright
@beached
Feb 17 2017 03:54
If you are able to setup nightscout on a linux box, something like digital ocean or what I use ovh(4.49 Canadian gets you 1 core 2GB ram and 10GB of SSD) then you never have to worry about resource limits
that's like 3.44 US dollars/month
hilarykoch
@hilarykoch
Feb 17 2017 03:54
So there were double entries over the weekend, but not since then. @walker0
Matt Walker
@walker0
Feb 17 2017 03:55
Nothing weird in the treatments report since then? ( not just on the graph)
hilarykoch
@hilarykoch
Feb 17 2017 03:56
Right, nothing looks odd. (I just looked through today’s treatments. Should I go back further?)
We had had an issue with double carbs when bolusing through the pump but we still had Loop app in open-loop mode. But we shut off Loop app entirely, so carb entries look right.
Matt Walker
@walker0
Feb 17 2017 03:58
Checking a few days worth is a good idea

Feb 17 2017 04:09
@walker0 Thanks. Looks like rig has been down now for 19 minutes. agh. it’s happening between wifi and BT tethering. Thought we had possibly fixed this. (@Kdisimone) Going to power rig off and up again. (That usually at least gets OpenAPS working again.) And I have to go to bed. If anyone has thoughts, please share. I’ll take another look at everything in the morning. :smile: (Oh, and @walker0, how do I restart dynos in Heroku if I need to?)
Matt Walker
@walker0
Feb 17 2017 04:10

@beached Don't do it. The Qi chargers generate a ton of heat, and the charging circuit on the Explorer is pretty warm too. I had to remove the Qi pad from my Tic-Tac box set up because after 20 mins charging the rig would shutdown due to Edison cores overheating. Sticking it in a water tight case with no airflow will cause a lot of heat issues, which you don't want with the LiPo.
@hilarykoch You've got something odd going on there with your Heroku dyno. I've never seen it get into the Red like that since having Heroku (that's since October)

@beached If you can come up with a way of doing some sort of heat exchanger in a very small box, then you could do it. I've been talking to a 3D printing guy about using embedded copper heat sinks that are introduced during printing for heat removal.
@zekeat09 You might need to speak to @chrisharris751 - I think he saw time stamp issues relating to time zones. Although it may have something to do with the 640G uploader so it's worth asking in that channel too.

@zekeat09 - we've been having a few issues time stamp too - though I see you can travel into the future with your most recent bg time vs your system time. I don't think ours has ever done that. Does your system do this for a few 'dots' and then resolve? Ours seems to, though it is still frustrating when it stops the loop - Where are you located? We are in western Canada (actually same time zone in Arizona right now though) - MST. @chrisharris751 - any suggestions?

@beached we let water into the pump by DS taking it for a swim - did not resolve heat issues thou :) Also seems it survived a short swim. Would be curious about your heat related experiments though!
@danamlewis - curious if you changed for Hawaii... you're closer to start with than we will be though...
Didn't need any change for timezones here - but do have the same error that pops up that @zekeat09 is showing... no idea why it suddenly shows up and the resolves.
Dana Lewis

Feb 17 2017 07:17
Nope. I only change if it's a lot of time zones (3+ usually, aka if I go abroad) or a long trip, and not always even then...
But if I do, I usually wait until it's a good time to risk mucking things up, so sometimes it'll be a few days into the trip when things calm down.

I suspect a lot of our "BG data too old" issues stem from connectivity drops. We see current BG data on the uploader phone, but if that can't transfer to the rig, the most recent readings eventually become too old. Once connectivity is restored, the BG data catches up and life carries on.

NS stuff is all in UTC / absolute time. Only the conversion of pump data from relative to absolute time relies on the rig timezone.
JELCRAWFORD
@JELCRAWFORD
Feb 17 2017 07:29
ok. Then no changes to the pump for absolute time, but maybe changes to when the basal rates (I'm particularly thinking for nighttime issues) might need to change based on sleep onset in new timezone relative to actual time in home timezone. Or we wing it and hope there are not many drops from OpenAPS, or pump swims or other minor disasters :)
@zekeat09 we are on a mm754 and a dex4 - no problems with night scout data reading properly, though we are happy to be back on our 'regular' pump that went swimming earlier in the week as the MM715 doesn't seem to provide data visualization for bolus' in NS though the COB data pill correct...

I had my rig connected to a wireless charger from yesterday afternoon throughout the night. When I woke up this morning my rig was dead. I thought these things charge your battery. I'm having a feeling the battery i have is either not working right or is severely drained, i used this one alot when i was trying to get my 515 to read. So now i'm walking around with an external battery pack attached to it through usb. I ordered another battery and a charger. Any input would be nice.

Like i said i wonder the condition of my battery, i ordered a charger and another battery. Another question is i notice this thing is pretty hot, does the edison have a shutoff temp if it gets to hot. I built a few PC's and know intels processors have a higher shut off temp . Im just wondering are there those safety measures on the edison also.
Chris Oattes

Hi there, today I have a problem with events in my 722 being decoded as events in the future. It started last night after a sensor change. It would upload to NS as an event in 2048. This messed up the uploading of all events to NS since then. The only thing I can see is the BG. If I delete it, the loop will upload it every time it runs. Right now it is not uploading the sensor change anymore, but it keeps uploading the pump site change from this morning as an event in 2040.
What really concerns me is that IOB is reported as zero while I can see the loop enacting temp basals based on IOB=0.
I changed pumphistory to 3h and then to 1 h to try to force it to "forget" about that site change (it's been 2h since) but no luck. Any ideas?

It's not to do with the JSON, it's because of how the pump data itself is being decoded

if you know how to edit decocare, you can add something like print([hex(ord(c)) for c in self.data]) somewhere. Not sure where to add it to make it specific to Rewind though. Might need to add a decode method to the rewind class

Hi @lukas-ondriga - I'm not sure that the temp targets are being updated in the loop. While the temptarget.json is being updated, the loop isn't using them.
The script needs to call settings/bg_targets.json, not profile.

@cjo20 now everything in the json has the incorrect date. Besides this is what I see is NS:

Hello all! I'm trying to set up a secondary rig using a spare Edison, and my old TI stick and Sparkfun base block. But for some reason, it doesn't seem to 'find' my TI stick when I plug it in.

When I type ls -al /dev/tty* before and after plugging in the TI stick, it doesn't show me anything different. Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on additional troubleshooting.

(The green light is on, on my TI stick. And if I use the TI stick in my Raspberry PI, it does work. So I don't think it's a hardware issue there.)

@zekeat09 @JELCRAWFORD @tim2000s I Haven't actually rectified my time stamp issue. It only affects the bolus wizard entries being uploaded from the pump through openaps. I've just been living with it. (I'm still not sure if this affecting my autotune results though) I think Tim might be correct that you have an issue with the 640g uploader side of things.

Does tethering create a network connection between your phone/tablet to your rig. So you will always be connected to your rig regardless of your internet connection. I'm trying to understand in regards to making ssh remote commands from my tablet to my rig.
jmcrawford

@peterfulvi Yes, your phone will assign a network address to your rig. As long as you know that address, you can ssh in.
Tim Street
@tim2000s
Feb 17 2017 21:44
@peterfulvi However, if you have wifi and bt set up on the rig, it generally favours wifi and defaults to that when available.
Easiest way to deal with that is comment out wifi networks in wpa_supplicant
David

Feb 17 2017 21:54

@david-t1 are you connected to the net by wifi?
David
@david-t1
Feb 17 2017 22:17
yes, but I disabled wifi during countless attempts to setup bt tethering
the failure could be my phone. Samsung galaxy S5 running marshmallow. I see it pair with my rig. not sure if it is connecting. Is connecting different than pairing? anyway bt-pan client always fails
I tried an app called easy-tether which definitely showed the phone and rig as connected but again bg-pan client failed

David
@david-t1
Feb 17 2017 23:29

John Benjamin

biggest trick with troubleshooting is understanding the issue to split it in half
David
@david-t1
Feb 17 2017 23:41
yes, and in my case, I barely understand what each step is doing. There is pairing which is different from connecting? Then there is trusting? And what is bt-pan client accomplishing? is that networking?
tethering is networking?
Eric
@ecc1
Feb 17 2017 23:44
The bt-pan script is invoking a higher-level Bluetooth protocol for "personal area networking" (PAN). It's asking the phone to be a client (when you enable BT tethering on the phone, it becomes a PAN server).
When it succeeds, it creates a new network interface on the Edison (bnep0), for which you then get an IP address and default route, via DHCP to the phone.
David
@david-t1
Feb 17 2017 23:57
so if I see the rig and phone are paired and connected, they are not yet tethered in a network until I complete the bt-pan client and dhcp bnep0 steps. And for this my phone has to have its hotspot capability enabled (my phone does not specify a bluetooth option, just wifi)?
