@zachcrystal If your settings are off (DIA, basal, etc), then having bad decisions made every 5 minutes based on those settings can actually make things worse! But, as a lot of people here can attest, spending some time up front to figure those things out can give you a shot at a major upgrade in time available not worrying about t1d.

@danamlewis np. here was the thought: code a pump site problem alert by watching the Bg/IOB/cob in similar way that autosens/autotune already do? with autosens would make the most sense i guess. we've never had our pump alert when the canula is blocked or the site falls off. it seems like autosens should almost already be able to see that insulin is having 0 effect, no?

I'm watching my kid's APS on Papertrail and NS. I just saw the basal history disappear from the icicle display. It showed a zero followed by several 6.25 for a couple hours, and it was just about to set a new one. Now, it shows a temp, with no number in it, and the previous temps are gone. Has anyone seen this? I don't see anything in the Papertrail that tells me why this happened...

Use bluetoothctl on the Edison and use the devices and paired-devices commands to list the MAC addresses of all devices it knows about, and devices it's paired with, respectively. If your phone doesn't show up, you'll have to re-run the scan on command while your phone is discoverable.
dmdfreak
@dmdfreak
Mar 08 2017 15:28
@ecc1 I have the Mac address, but xdrip needs the IP number to use rest API for offline updates.
Eric
@ecc1
Mar 08 2017 15:38
Sorry, misunderstood. If bnep0 doesn't show up when you do ifconfig, then you don't have a PAN (Bluetooth tethering) connection yet.
If it does, then run route -n. The address (probably default gateway) on the same IP network number as your bnep0 will be the phone's IP address.
Eric
@ecc1
Mar 08 2017 15:45

You can also look at the DHCP messages for bnep0 in /var/log/daemon.log. For example, when I just brought up my bnep0 interface, I see this:

Mar  8 10:41:37 tesla dhclient[6090]: DHCPOFFER of 192.168.44.123 from 192.168.44.1

which tells me the phone's IP address is 192.168.44.1

dmdfreak
@dmdfreak
Mar 08 2017 16:09
@ecc1 when I run devices as you said earlier it shows my phones Mac# and the Edison is listed on my phone in the Bluetooth device list. The DHCP idea says I don't have permission for some reason even though I'm login with root. But the route -n suggestion gave me 192.168.43.1 so I put that in my rest API URL but so far it's still failing. Going to give it a few minutes. Then I'll be home and I can play with it a little harder.
Eric
@ecc1
Mar 08 2017 16:16
You can try pinging that address to make sure the connection is working.
Is your bnep0 on the 192.168.43.0/24 network too? I'm suspicious that it might be the WiFi tethering address (.43 vs .44) since Android always uses the same networks for tethering.
You have confirmed that you have bnep0 and it has an IP address, right?

Mar 08 2017 16:51

Right. Connect it to your phone's Bt and run the scan. I am not 100% certain for android BT range. But a quick google search tells me this:

The Android builtin wifi tethering is designed to use 192.168.43.1/24 as the server, with netd handling the tethering, using dnsmasq. First DNS range is 192.168.42.1-254 and and 2nd DNS range is 192.168.43.1-254.

Isf of -1? What's isf logged in your pump?

Mar 08 2017 20:29
and what does cat settings/insulin_sensitivities.json show?
Harris3
@Harris3
Mar 08 2017 20:30
right is saw that isf of -1. setting in pump is 400
root@edisonhost:~/myopenaps# cat settings/insulin_sensitivities.json

looks like ISF is being decoded incorrectly: there is no record for midnight (a start of 00:00:00)
Harris3
@Harris3
Mar 08 2017 20:32
can i fix it?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Mar 08 2017 20:34
this is probably the same thing as openaps/decocare#21
as a test, you might try setting ISF to 255 and see if it reads that successfully
Harris3
@Harris3
Mar 08 2017 20:34
ok let me try it
}root@edisonhost:~/myopenaps# cat settings/insulin_sensitivities.json

Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Mar 08 2017 20:36
that looks much better.
would 255 be a reasonable ISF to try looping with, or have you measured it to be significantly higher than that?
Harris3
@Harris3
Mar 08 2017 20:37
ok so since that worked what does this mean?
ohhhhhh nooooo!
3 year old
400 is a stretch actually
its more like 500
currently using 400 during the day and closer to 500 in the early morning hours (2am-6am)
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Mar 08 2017 20:39
so sounds like you need someone with some Python skills to help resolve openaps/decocare#21
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Mar 08 2017 20:40
(Which means no looping yet until this bug for super high isf gets fixed, unless you wanted to set a very very high target to compensate and only have it low temp to ward off lows)
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Mar 08 2017 20:40
in the mean time, you could maybe also manually update the insulin_sensitivities.json file to reflect your desired ISF, and then update your get-settings alias to not refresh the insulin_sensitivities.json...
that would be similar to the way 512 users have to hard-code some of their settings

Harris3
@Harris3
Mar 08 2017 20:43
bummer. thank you guys so much for your help! I can't believe no one is looping with an ISF above 255! At least we know why we couldn't get it running now!
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Mar 08 2017 20:44
I know there have been some really little kids looping. I think at least one of them used diluted insulin, but I can't recall if he also had a really high ISF (even after dilution) or not...
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Mar 08 2017 20:44
@Harris3 I think the last suggestion @scottleibrand would allow you to loop in the interim - manually setting isf file and then making sure get-settings doesn't try to override from the pump and mess it up again. So that would be a good interim solution to try.
Harris3
@Harris3
Mar 08 2017 20:46
ok I think that makes sense...can you help do that please?
*me
would I do nano settings/insulin_sensitivities.json to edit?
katie disimone
@Kdisimone
Mar 08 2017 20:48
@Harris3 and that ^^code change^^ is what I was suggesting yesterday afternoon (but would have to figure out how to do. It would be a good project to learn from)
Harris3
@Harris3
Mar 08 2017 20:49
@Kdisimone YES!!
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Mar 08 2017 20:57
yes, start with nano
actually you might need to edit the get-settings alias first or it'll override your edits
(assuming the loop is still running in cron)

when I pull up get-settings it is just blank
so now I'm wondering if we are just setting a static amount for isf...would I be able to set 500 for 2am-6am or can I only go up to 400 since that is the highest setting my pump allows?
katie disimone
@Kdisimone
Mar 08 2017 21:19
@Harris3 make sure you are in the right directory when you do a nano command. If you do a nano command in the wrong directory (where the file doesn't actually exist), it will simply create a blank file by the same name.
So doing an ls command is a good idea so you can see if the file exists in your directory too

@scottleibrand @Harris3 I just created a PR for decocare with an untested fix for the insulin sensitivity issue, because I don't have an openaps setup with which to try it. The corresponding Go code has been working fine, though, so I'm hopeful.

Anybody else out there that has a Google Pixel or Nexus phone, and had troubles with WiFi assist?
I've had it on for a couple of months, and never had a problem. On this trip, with WiFi assist on at both locations, the hotel's network seems to block my rig from uploading to nightscout (downloads go fine, and xDrip+ uploads fine). The wifi at the convention center works just fine though.
